Both guys are in the top 3 in the division (1&3 ring, 1&3 boxrec and 2&3 TBRB).
Do you think that qualifies for Ring or Lineal or does Charlo gotta be part of it.
No
Lineage gets established when you can point to a single champion.
Lara-Hurd winner vs Jermell Charlo, versus whomever holds the WBO belt at that point, will give you the lineal champion.
Lineages are always broken but restored when the top 2 fight each other...People stop caring about lineage when the fighter they love can't obtain it
There's plenty of divisions where the lineal title has been vacant for years. The problem is, there is no consensus ranking system to say who the top 2 guys are...and even if everyone agrees who the top guys are, half the time the fight never gets made. Not to mention the abc belts all have different ranking systems and unification fights are becoming a rarity. That's why lineal is pretty well meaningless these days. When there ceased to be one title, lineage became harder to trace and maintain.
I don't know and could care less. Lineal is vastly overrated. Spinks was lineal heavyweight for years when everybody knew Tyson was the real heavyweight champ. When Tyson got him in the ring he needed less than 60 seconds of the first round to knock him out.Martinez and then Cotto were so called lineal middleweight champs fighting catch weight fights below 160 when almost everybody knew GGG was the real middleweight champ. Cotto never fought a single fight at the standard middleweight limit of 160. The ring still calls Canelo the lineal middleweight champ even when damn near everybody knows GGG is the real middleweight champ until a middleweight can beat him in the ring. The winner of Lara vs Hurd must fight Jermell and the winner of that fight would be widely recognized as the real 154 pound champ.well he just outboxed GGG SO...
I really wish people would drop the term "lineal" already. it's become next to impossible to trace in a lot of the divisions at this point. with the various belts and lineal champions vacating or retiring and no dominant champion emerging due to politics/not making fights etc...it's pretty safe to say in many cases the lineage is broken to the point it can't be restored.

The magazine belt and the lineal championship have nothing to do with each other at this point. The magazine is now owned by HBO's lead promoter and all of the credible journalists on the ratings advisory board quit when the new owner broke their promise to not interfere.
Since then, numerous "rules" have been instituted that make the magazine belt completely antithetical to the concept of a lineal championship. These "rules" are selectively enforced to always benefit HBO and harm Showtime.

Nah Charlo needs to be involved IMO, if the winner fights Charlo I’ve got no problem with that being for the lineal title.
