I'd say that Hatton was on the decline by then, obviously reching the end of his career, while Pacquiao was reaching peak level.
Also Hatton's style was made for Pacquiao. Playing into the hands of a real top level opponent is always going to end badly.
Floyd Mayweather Sr. gave Ricky Hatton absolutely nothing as a trainer. In fact he made him worse. Tried to completely change Hatton as a fighter in a couple of weeks. Also Manny Pacquaio was on PEDs.
Hatton just went ape shlt and didn't follow the game plan nor was listening to whatever Mayweather Sr was telling him. He fought like a complete idiot.can anyone understand stand what that crack head says? It's taking me years to understand he starts his sentences by saying "Luuke hur mane"
Handspeed is a motherfvcker.
Plus this was absolute peak manny.
Also, if you rewatch it, the 10 second warning for end of round happened, and hatton let his guard down and though him and manny could stall for a few seconds then go back to corners.. but manny jumped on him as soon as hatton lowered his guard for a fraction of a second.
Still one of the most spectacular and shocking big fight ko I have ever seen
Hatton just went ape shlt and didn't follow the game plan nor was listening to whatever Mayweather Sr was telling him. He fought like a complete idiot.
Hatton was a severely flawed fighter. He attacked with little regard for defense. He reached in a lot to try and clinch... he kept getting caught trying to reach in and grab Pacquiao.
His style worked for about 3 rounds against Mayweather. It didn't works at all against Pacquiao.
Why was Pacquiao able to destroy Hatton like he did? Was it because of the problems Hatton had in training? Or was he just tailor-made for Pacquiao?
Because Floyd knocked Hatton the fùck out 1.5 years prior to that. That would be my guess.
Even in the fight after with Lazcano, he was getting hit with good shots he never really got hit with before.
Hatton only ever had one style and that was to straightforwardly attack you. If you do that vs a Pacquiao from those years and you haven’t got the true skills to pull it off? Yeah, you are getting chewed up.
Hatton had some behind the scenes trouble for sure, that much is true with some of his personal life and some aspects of his camp, but at the end of the day he would have fought the same way even if things went perfect because that’s who he is; he simply wasn’t talented enough a boxer to have more than one or two wrinkles in his game.
Him and Pacquiao are fairly one-type-of-approach fighters, Pacquiao was better at it.
Hatton has been pretty honest about how he struggled mentally after his first loss plus he was just made to order stylistically, that right hook worked a treat every time he lunged in.
Perfect storm of Pacquiao at his absolute peak and Hatton having horribly declined despite having only one loss. You can't point to any one factor, but the combination of everything resulted in Ricky being absolutely decimated.
He had a strange nosedive in punch resistance. I think it had a lot to do with weight cutting for years, plus that KO by Floyd.
Also Pacquiao had dubious power from the Oscar fight on...make of that what you will.
