Vasyl Lomachenko's weakness: lacking / limited defence and footwork?

As exposed against Orlando Salido, his atrocious footwork and defence was exposed to be exactly that, horrendous. He showed no defensive skills other than his one dimensional excessive clinching. In other words, his defence is severely limited and one dimensional. Particularly against boxers who are pressure fighters stylistically and have some of the best punch resistance in boxing like Orlando Salido. Against Orlando Salido, Lomachenko failed to use his footwork to evade Orlando Salido like how the great Manny Pacquiao was able to against the much bigger and better Antonio Margarito. In other words, exposing how one dimensional, limited and overrated Lomachenko's foot work is. Particularly against such type of opponents. Against Orlando Salido, Lomachenko also failed to use other defensive moves outside of offootwork. Such as blocking punches whilst standing skill, or rolling punches whilst standing still, or using head movement to evade punches whilst standing still. Like how Floyd Mayweather Jr was able to do against Canelo Alvarez whilst standing with his back against the ropes. At times, the much bigger and better Canelo Alvarez (compared to Lomachenko's god, master and his soul taker Orlando Salido) was unable to land any punches on Mayweather, despite throwing entire combinations. There isn't a boxer with more overrated footwork and defence in the history of this beautiful sport. Lomachenko is one dimensional and Salido proved just that. The only thing he was forced to resort to was clinching because he has no answers to such a type of opponent defensively. He doesn't have enough versatility in his repertoire to adjust / adapt to such an opponent outside of clinching. When he faces another boxer that is a pressure fighter stylistically with one of the best chins in boxing, he'll get exposed once again like the pathetic fraud that he is. Lomachenko is a stiff robot! He'll never be better than Pacquiao or Mayweather. Both have astronomically better footwork and defence and they didn't need shtty and crappy Ukrainian dance classes to achieve their abilities. Everything about Lomachenko is flashy and flamboyant. In reality, if one looks past those irrelevant flashiness and flamboyancy, the guy is nothing special and is less skilled than Mikey Garcia. Lomachenko really doesn't possess any special effect, just like how Golovkin doesn't.

Vasyl Lomachenko ONLY looks fast as an optical illusion due to the unnecessary flashy / flamboyant moves he performs. Otherwise, he really isn't that fast and is no faster than an average top level boxer. And Canelo Alvarez makes Vasyl Lomachenko appear as if he moves in slow motion. Despite the significant size and weight gap, Canelo Alvarez is significantly faster than Vasyl Lomachenko to the point where Canelo embarrasses Lomachenko in the speed department. Agree completely. When I was watching a Canelo fight on my laptop all I saw was a red blur the whole fight - it was insane

Canelo Alvarez is better than Vasyl Lomachenko in pretty much every department! Certainly at this point that Canelo is so much more thoroughly tested against top fighters, I agree. But Canelo and Loma had such different trajectories into the pro ranks and have such different styles. I can't say Canelo's skills are better, but he is certainly a bigger puncher, no doubt, and has gotten better and improved his arsenal in just about every fight since the Mayweather loss. I give him a ton of credit for that. And we've seen Canelo take the skills to the next level against quality opponents with a variety of styles. But the pure speed and athleticism advantages have to be given to Loma, I'd contend.

While I agree that Lomachenko has been put on a bizarre and over-reaching pedestal so quickly, and I do believe some of his flashy turns can distract fans from the fact that what he is accomplishing technically is no more effective than a more stripped down, Spartan iteration of the same moves...it does seem like you might be overshooting with your criticisms as egregiously as his crazed die-hards do with the worship. And giving credit where credit is due, Lomachenko is much more enjoyable to watch by virtue of that flash for a large percentage of the boxing audience. I certainly don't intend to attack your perspective, mine is just maybe in the middle of yours and his often cultish supporters. I think it is very fair to say Mayweather's footwork was radically more fundamentally sound and efficient, better. No question. To put Pacquiao down as having superior footwork to Lomachenko seems as impossible to me as putting Loma atop a current p4p list. In his prime Pacquiao had sloppier footwork, often crossed his feet, stepped across his own path and so on. Pacquiao just had such phenomenal body awareness and balance and quicker hands. I also believe using the Salido fight as an example so frequently is as inaccurate as citing Pacquiao's early knockout losses as grounds to say he had a soft chin. Neither argument seems to pass logical muster. Salido out-toughed Loma, out-roughed him, out-pro'd him. And Lomachenko has steadily made big jumps in tactics after and, no doubt, because of that loss. No offense intended, I just think the Lomachenko debate always comes down to extreme, angry statements on both sides when the reality is in the center somewhere. We went through this with Mike Tyson, Naseem Hamed, Roy Jones, Pacquiao, with Mayweather, Arturo Gatti, Rigo, David Lemieux, so on and so forth...and the truth is almost always somewhere in between. Canelo Alvarez is better than Vasyl Lomachenko in pretty much every department!

loma has speed, a decent punch, good footwork & gives angles coming from the southpaw stance. What loma can't beat is pressure, has average defense at best & I don't think he can't take a punch from a puncher. I think he can be stopped to the body. Lomachenko's speed is average. His footwork is only flashy and fancy. Not any more effective than Mikey Garcia's or other elite / top level boxers. I would say Lomachenko has the best footwork of any fighter today & his style will usher in a wave of copycats.. Even if you dislike him that's gotta be the last part of his boxing you'd criticize. His opponents spend most of the fight struggling with his lateral slips. He views the jump rope and the pain associated with said training the way an alcoholic or drug addict views their next drink or fix. Seems to really enjoy his training. He's so good, I bet he microdoses
