It gets thrown around in every sport, this board is literally filled with it.
It's common with foreign fighters. " they havn't fought anyone" I mean, they might be slightly over sold but if you beat champs from major regions of the world you have to have some skill
Maybe people get confused with over marketed and overrated?
What makes a fighter overrated? If the standard is boxingscene's alts opinion then it's flawed
I thought 97G won, but Jacobs turned it on late and stole some of the later rounds. Fight could have gone either way and I would not have complained. Point is, Lil G was being hyped as monster, expectations were that he would crush Jacobs easily but that's obviously not what happened.
Yeah, I can see how it would be bad for someone to defeat someone with a 32-1 record, with 29 KO's. A guy who has maybe lost 20 rounds in his entire career (not counting the GGG fight).
For me it's relative to the accomplishments of fighters from past and present that have set the bar so high.
The fan base is also also largely responsible for overrating their favorite fighter which is common across an array of sports.
Lost by landing more and getting a knock down. Okay.

I was saying Golovkin's overhype doesn't match his boxing skills. He's one dimensional and depends on brute strength. When that didn't work, we saw what happened. He's a good, limited fighter with basic skills.
He couldn't even cut off the ring against Canelo, the one thing he was supposedly great at. What happened there?
Saunders will befuddle him!
One dimensional = Outjabbing everyone.
When the best win on your resume for the longest time was David Lemieux. "160 isn't weak GGG just makes everyone look mediocre!" :lol1:
97G is the most overrated fighter of all time, his fans were literally comparing him to Roy Jones after he cherry picked and knocked out a bum that was under house arrest. He stepped up one time, he fought a B level fighter in Jacobs and he was exposed. I was reading boxing scene when the Jacobs fight was made, 97G was supposed to destroy that "chinny cancer patient", instead he arguably lost :lol1:.

What the hell are you on?
So let's see the close fights that Saunders have had, shall we.
He had a close fight with Ryder.
A close fight with Eubank.
A very close call with Andy Lee.
According to Canelotards he lost the fight to Akarov.

Usyk? Crawford and Loma? I'm big on skills. None of that robotic stuff.
At middle: Saunders is the most skilled.
( Having to many close calls with guys your supposedly better than and never beating any top to elite fighters or rival ) Golovkin fits this definition perfectly.

Sorta why people sleep on the cruiserweight division - the fighters are champions, undefeated, in their primes but aren't well known / marketed therefore they are bums.
To be a good fighter to the general public and even so called boxing fans, you need hype and marketing. There's a reason why promoters spend millions of dollars trying to convince people their fighter's are the best.
You just hate on GGG don’t you? If you say he lost/drawn and controversially won overcB levels, then who would you rank as being A level at MW?
Usyk? Crawford and Loma? I'm big on skills. None of that robotic stuff.

Overrated on this board for the most part simply means that that person is a rival of a board member's favourite fighter.
Realistically i'd probably say it applies to tin can crushers.

Someone who has fought D and C fighters all their career and is hyped out of this world. Loses, wins a disputed decision, or draws, when they step up to B levelers. That's my definition.
