What's standard defines overrated in boxing terms???

I thought 97G won, but Jacobs turned it on late and stole some of the later rounds. Fight could have gone either way and I would not have complained. Point is, Lil G was being hyped as monster, expectations were that he would crush Jacobs easily but that's obviously not what happened. Yeah, I can see how it would be bad for someone to defeat someone with a 32-1 record, with 29 KO's. A guy who has maybe lost 20 rounds in his entire career (not counting the GGG fight).

For me it's relative to the accomplishments of fighters from past and present that have set the bar so high. The fan base is also also largely responsible for overrating their favorite fighter which is common across an array of sports.

I was saying Golovkin's overhype doesn't match his boxing skills. He's one dimensional and depends on brute strength. When that didn't work, we saw what happened. He's a good, limited fighter with basic skills. He couldn't even cut off the ring against Canelo, the one thing he was supposedly great at. What happened there? Saunders will befuddle him! One dimensional = Outjabbing everyone.

He stepped up one time, he fought a B level fighter in Jacobs and he was exposed. " they havn't fought anyone" I mean, they might be slightly over sold but if you beat champs from major regions of the world you have to have some skill Maybe people get confused with over marketed and overrated? What makes a fighter overrated? If the standard is boxingscene's alts opinion then it's flawed Sorta why people sleep on the cruiserweight division - the fighters are champions, undefeated, in their primes but aren't well known / marketed therefore they are bums. To be a good fighter to the general public and even so called boxing fans, you need hype and marketing. There's a reason why promoters spend millions of dollars trying to convince people their fighter's are the best.

So GGG is B minus level and Saunders is A level? Nope. Golovkin is a solid B. Saunders and Canelo B+.

Overrated on this board for the most part simply means that that person is a rival of a board member's favourite fighter. Realistically i'd probably say it applies to tin can crushers.

Loses, wins a disputed decision, or draws, when they step up to B levelers. That's my definition.
