Okay Boxing Day has absolutely No Connection with the sport of Boxing but it's still a great opportunity for Boxing to take ownership of December 26th and put on a big card in America and the UK.
This event would be geared more towards a Television Audience then it would be a Live audience.
I also think they'd be a big enough audience to watch it especially as a ticket for the event could be a Chrismas gift given to men by their wife's/Girlfriends.
Now, just to fix the problem of the Weigh-in having to be on the Christmas Day!
I would move the Weigh-in to the 23rd or 24th of December so that there wouldn't have to any weigh-in on the 25th and the Boxers could spend that day with their families and be able to eat normally. Either that or just have a card featuring Heavyweights which wouldn't really need a Weigh-in.
What do you think about having a Boxing Card on Boxing Day?
December 26th and put on a big card in America and the UK.
Few Americans have any clue what "boxing day" is. The only thing selling it is the fact that the day and the sport happen to share a name in the UK. There's nothing else driving it so I think the premise doesn't have legs to stand on.
Also, few people make it through the business of Christmas and then decide to get together the very next day for a sports event.
NYE events, THAT'S something. People are getting together with no goals other than to stay up late and drink. Perfect time to grab some PPV money off them.
Doubt you're going to get many relevant fighters buying into this. The average Joe is usually broke Christmas month too, so not a lot of revenue. I believe Eddie Hearn's "Christmas Cracker" card in mid December went down as a fail.
People not able to travel far distances and people having a lack of money after christmas would be a problem, also boxing day landing on a weekday. Won't work.
Well it would be geared towards more of a Television audience then it would be a Live Audience.
