I have been supporting Golovkin and have been defending him for a long time now. However, if he genuinely did claim that he would compete against anybody from 154 - 168 pounds, then it is a duck if he avoided anybody after being called out.
The point is, you can't 'duck' someone from a different weight division. However, if a boxer from a lighter weight divisions calls out a boxer / boxers from a heavier weight division and then refuses to compete against him / them, then it has to be considered a 'duck'.
Likewise, a boxer from a heavier weight division can't be called a 'weight bully' if he accepts a boxing bout against a boxer from a lighter weight division if the lighter boxer initially calls out the heavier boxer. In the case of Rigondeaux calling out Lomachenko.
However, if a heavier boxer from a heavier weight division initially calls out a lighter boxer from a lighter weight division, then that boxer has to be considered a 'weight bully'.
I think what he said was pretty clear as day. My issue at the time was, if you think everyone is ducking you then seek fights up north or down south. But don’t come back with I would fight a retired fighter in Froch (@168), Chavez (@168) but Ward (@164). That is ducking IMHO.
There is a hell ofa lot a more to what fights a boxer accepts or declines than just being called out in the media. The most important thing is the cash offer. Lara constantly called out GGG but he never tried to fight any other middleweight to prove his worth as a middleweight challenger and he never made any kind of money offer threw his team or a promoter. Why should GGG fight Lara who is a runner and not a popular boxer when Lara won't even put a cash offer on the table? The same thing was true with Ward who made a big deal of calling him out when he already was in training for a legally binding contracted fight with Lemieux. Ward never made a cash offer either. GGG ends up fighting Jacobs and Canelo who are the two best middleweights in the world besides GGG. Those are exactly the boxers GGG should be fighting. He never ducked anybody and if you were really a fan of his you wouldn't have started a thread like this.
ive never heard this before. when did he say this??? should we bring up the ward will be heavyweight champ by 2016 over and over and over and over. no we can just make fun of his actual cheat fest fights. something ggg haters cant do so they make a mountain out of a mole hill. at the time he seemed serious but later wasnt as willing. not sure why its a big deal.
You mean you've been defending Golovkin all this time, but now another fighter you like (Lomachenko) is in the opposite position you're flipping your stance?
I've actually been a bigger fan / supporter of Guillermo Rigondeaux and for longer than I've been a fan of Vasyl Lomachenko. Only recently have I started liking Lomachenko as a boxer (after watching more of his bouts). However, I've followed Rigondeaux throughout his career. Including his younger amateur / Olympic career.
I'm a fan of both boxers equally so I don't have a specific favorite on who I'd prefer winning between Lomachenko and Rigondeaux. Just hoping to see the best bout possible between two of the most skilled boxers in history.
