Interesting interview. Basically he's had to remortgage his house and spend all his money on eye surgery. He still needs a further operation that he says will leave him broke.
He says he wants to come back because he loves boxing but you have to wonder if it's just for money. He's been with Golden Boy and Sauerland - you'd think one of them might have looked after him.
The NHS will save your sight but it won't put plates in so you can box, I guess.
Thats not true. A guy I know who took part in a charity boxing event had that surgery on the NHS. No idea why Ogogo went to the US, got charged that much and isn ow broke.
Its sad because he was a talented amateur who never got it together in the pro ranks and spent too long trying to be a celeb before he did anything in the ring. Hopefully he makes a comeback.
I have to say i think the guy is a total twat.
He made the crucial mistake of believing his own hype.
He will never make it as a successful pro, at World level anyway.
Some successful amateurs are just not cut out for the pro game.
Some people are too easily led by promoters / media.
Ogogo is both the above.
He comes across as arrogant, I watched a few interviews and that was enough to make me dislike him.....still, I hope he gets fixed and can come back and make some money.
Taxpayers don't decide where the money goes though.
If a bird can get fake tittays on the NHS because "depression" i'm sure a boxer could get treated.
I think it would go on a case-by-case basis. They might treat the injury but not put the plates in that would allow him to box again, or strengthen the eye enough to take a punch.
Mike Towell's family made a complaint to the NHS after he had severe head pain and was given co-codamol and aspirin, they refused to give him a brain scan.....we all know what happened in his next fight.

He should look at presenting. Boxing isnt for him
He was on Boxnation quite a bit, not fight cards but boxing matters etc, he came across quite well i thought.
I'm not sure the NHS pay for injuries from boxing at professional level? I don't think the taxpayer would be happy knowing 10's of thousands of pounds are going to repair a boxer's injury, knowing full well they can get hurt in there.
I can't seem to find any information, but I'd imagine the bigger money boxers go private any way, especially for the best specialist treatment. NHS might only do so much.

Wouldn't he get it free on the NHS?
