Now that Wlad is retired, how was his chin? Was it really as bad as people say? Sure he was knocked down a lot of times, and stopped 4 times, but in one of his losses, he was exhausted. You don't take punches as well when you're tired.
For a heavyweight champion his chin was average or slightly below average. He didn't have a glass jaw but his chin was his weakest point. His losses were all KO losses except the loss to Fury. He was hurt and knocked down in fights he won as well. He was still a good champion because of his skill, size and strength, great punching power and excellent defense.
wladimir is a perfect example of a fighter, under a great trainer, learning how to build a style that suits his strengths. early in his career he fought like a bomber. found out that his huge body woudl ditre, and his chin would let him down if he kept fighting like that.
by the end of his career he'd gotten away from the jab, but in his prime it was the best in the sport. and behind it came one of the hardest right hands i've ever seen. why fight inside when you can hold? you're 6'6" and 245 lbs, just lean on the guy and he'll tire out like you were beating on him. why throw to the body when it leaves you vulnerable? jab jab, sometimes throw the right, or just hold on. you'll win the rounds, and most of your opponents are going to break down from you putting your oven mitt sized hands on them all night from half a mile away.
wladimir changed his entire style to protect a vulnerable chin that was causing him to lose.
yeah, he lost to punchers after he gassed, but they didn't have to land a ton of hard stuff to get him there. for an all time great HW his chin was flat out bad. most of hte greats at HW had very solid chins. frazier, foreman, tyson, holyfield, ali, these guys had terrific chins. ali and holyfield had two of the best chins ever at any weight. you need a great chin at HW to fight and beat other great fighters with power. unless you're ali in '66 they'll eventually land on you.

His chin is good. Look at the jokers here talking about below average. A few punches from Joshua or any decent heavyweight, and we’d be mopping up your brains from the floor.
This argument is always so stupid lol nobody here is a top ranked Heavyweight contender. God forbid people talk about fighters critically before some asshat jumps in and tells us that we'd get crushed in a boxing match.
He had a good chin. His KO losses were usually as a result of exhaustion. He took some massive shots against Joshua and was finished on his feet. Top class fighter right up to the end.
It's not the best lets be honest, he did the dance from a jab V Pulev in the first round with the first landed punch.
It's not David Price levels either though.
I don't think he has a bad chin, it's HW boxing so they can all punch. He just never seem to react well to getting punched if that makes sense? I think he looked more hurt than he actually was. Imo.

This.
Wlad absolutely hates to get punched. Of course, everybody does, but some fighters would take one to give one. Wlad wouldn't take one to give two.
Although he got put down quite a few times, he never finished any fight on the floor, never. That says something.
Disagree completely. NO HEART. NO DOG IN HIM. Complete opposite of Vitali.
Heart is having half your eye torn open and your screaming at the ref to continue. Not getting knocked out by Lamon Brewster and claiming you were poisoned by his camp ROFL!!!
Wlad had 0 heart, 0 dog in him.
As Roy Jones would say, “he’s like a pitbull that can’t fight off the bottom” that means he looks good when he’s winning, but when stuff gets rough and he’s getting beat on he folds.
1st loss - as a young fighter towel thrown in due to exhaustion, but not really a KO or a Quit, wouldn't really question his heart.
2nd loss - repeatedly knocked down heavily by Sanders but got up each time, how else could he have shown heart?
3rd loss - whatever the reason, he was out of it v Brewster and the final knockdown was even a trip over the refs leg (watch it again) but he still tried getting up, wouldn't call that no heart either
4th loss - I suppose we could question his heart in terms of perhaps fearing the risk of unloading as Fury had him out of his comfort zone, but could argue it as an off night
5th loss - Got up 3 times from heavy knockdowns v current heavyweight killer away from home at age 41, 2 years inactive...this instance it would definitely be ridiculous to question his heart
Average or below average chin, but well above-average heart. Always got up when he was put down - not bad for someone that wasn't 'born' a fighter but was 'made' into one.

This. Anyone at HW with decent power can drop anyone with a perfect shot. I say Wlad had a slightly below average chin, but it wasn't a glass chin. People try to make it seem like he's a heavyweight Amir Khan.
Wlad's heart is always overlooked. He always made an effort to get up, even when he couldn't.
Samuel Peter dropped him numerous times, three or four times I believe, but he couldn't keep him down. If his chin was that bad, Wlad would have been out cold taking shots against a big puncher like Peter
