Well, as my previous thread (which will hopefully be stickied) was about the best fights, this is about the other big award, fighter of the year.
So, you know what to do, list your top three nominations and I'll sort through them and count them. Preferably list them in order of preference. I know things are subject to change due to Loma and Rigo, so theres time for people to make amendments.
Your top ranked fighter gets 3 points, second gets 2 and third gets 1. Keep that in mind, anyone not posting a top 3 will have their votes invalidated.
As of now:
1. Anthony Joshua - no reason to explain
2. Terence Crawford - some distance behind but based off his achievements rather than simply opposition, this guy has to be up there
3. Sor Rungvisai - if the first fight was controversial and no one took him seriously, the second left no room for an argument
Thank you to all those that voted and especially those that actually took the time out to make their lists and then explain them. There were a lot of good discussions throughout.
Happy 2018.
Thrown in with GGG more cos he was bottom of the poll than anything else. He has at least as strong an argument as any of the others based on the quality of opposition - provided you thought he deserved the nod both times, that is.
i'm honestly expecting joshua to get it. my pick would be lomachenko, but i'dhave no issues with crawford, either.
the real top fighters in the world and who had good years are crawford and lomachenko. but joshua is an easy way for media outlets to cop out from picking one or the other and picking joshua because of how big of a draw he is.
make no mistake, joshua is going to be boxing's biggest earner in the next five years barring something crazy. if fury can make a comeback and he or joshya can put wilder on his resume then fury - joshua will be truly massive. the only tyhing they're missing is vegas money and american PPV, but do they really need it?
1. Rungvisai - came out of nowhere, shocked the world and in the second fight made the doubters quiet for good.
2. Lomachenko - just amazing seeing this guy work and outclassing all his opponents.
3. Crawford - same as Loma except I also love watching him go southpaw vs other southpaws. really shows his competitive spirit and the different levels to the game.
would have to agree about mikey garcia not being listed though
I personally had it aj, tc and rung. I don't think loma did enough to break the top 3.
Also just on rung, he is getting respect because he won a lot points in the nomination stage.
To me Terence Crawford hasn't beat anyone good this year, so I couldn't score him high in the ranking tbh I don't think he deserves to be anywhere near the list at all.
It was between Joshua or Lomachenko for me, I picked AJ because I believe what he has done is great for the division that and the fact he beat Wladimir in an entertaining possible fight of the year candidate.
To me, there is no clear winner of FOTY, but it's clearly only between AJ and Loma that much I can tell you for certain.

Rungvisai getting no respect at all.
Ahhhh.... **** you have a point, I'd have Rungvisai ahead of Terence Crawford though, two wins over the former P4P #1 definitely deserves a high place in the nominees.

Badou Jack or Lomachenko
Jack cuz he basically ruined top champ in his division James Degale and got robbed even after pummeling him and now he's a shell of his former self and then moved up and beat a top 10 fighter at 175 and a champ in Cleverly by complete destruction!
Jack should've been unified champ at 168 and a 2 division champ since beating Cleverly for the WBA an now he going after Stevenson!..
Loma cuz he did beat a champ in Sosa who for some reason had to drop his title to fight Loma instead of it being a unification, not only beat him but school and destroyed him!
Then gave the fight that the REAL BOXING FANS were asking for when even he didn't want it for valid real and understandable reasons! Lomachenko vs Rigondeaux
Not only did he take the fight unlike the guys around Rigos division who ducks him, he completely embarrassed a top 5 or 10 p4p guy who's a legendary fighter and even gave a same day weight clause!
We mostly knew Rigo was gonna lose but none of ever fathomed that Loma would make him quit!
Making Rigodeaux quit has to be the most impressive win in the year!
I think Vasyl Lomachenko is the best fighter in the world right now.
But based on 2017 alone, I'm going to pick GGG. A lot of why I have Loma rated #1 right now comes from the quality of his resume coming into the year.
Quality of opposition is something I weigh heavily. And Prime Jacobs + prime Canelo >>> Rigo + Sosa + Marriaga easily.
People have failed to message me but I'm guessing there will be a lot of guys wanting to change their lists, so I will add Loma to the poll regardless, with the top 5 nominations now being:
Crawford
Rungvisai
Golovkin
Joshua
Loma
My vote will be going to AJ and TC/Rung stay in my top 3.
So poll will be up in a bit.
