Enough beating around the bush - as an AJ fan I do NOT want to see Wilder next
Reason being? He hasn't peaked and is still improving.
To be honest I didn't think he was ready for the world title but I guess him and Hearn weighed up the pro's and cons' and took a gamble. The problem as I see it was not Charles Martin, but more the fact they knew there would be public pressure to take on the real challenges and potentially (some are, some not) dangerous mandatories once he had the belt.
The second gamble they took, was the Klitschko fight, a dangerous fight where they probably would have preferred it a year down the road, but again I think they jumped because they feared Klitschko age 41 might not hang around that long, it is a huge fight in terms of legacy/ financially, and IF he lost they could definitely rebuild him and it certainly would not have been the end of the world.
As it stands now, why do they need to take the risk? For my money AJ still can improve in a lot of areas, I think the Takam fight was a great fight for him, it was a learning fight, against a durable well rounded fighter albeit not top level.
AJ is not the finished article - Wilder is, he ain't getting any better. He has had nearly 40 professional training camps, has had nearly double the fights, double the experience, even if you consider that the level AJ has moved up at has been much quicker and arguably has a better resume at the sharp end, there is no replacement for experience and training camps. The fact they are entertaining it for 2018 is just about how AJ's career has developed up to this point, FAST.
The financial's just adds to the above argument, of course they don't want to take the risk for a fight that really isn't that much bigger than any other AJ fight, but much more dangerous. Having said all that, I think it will happen at years end 2018, AJ would have had 2 more training camps, Wilder would not have got any worse and you'll probably get the best version of the fight it could be. So...
Stop all the dick measuring and trying to get one up on each other. This is boxing, its a sport and a business. If you are a Wilder fan you want the fight now, in boxing terms AJ is still a baby, and the longer they wait the harder he's going to be to beat, you guys need to admit that part of it!
