Perhaps maybe the hype is too much on Joshua, what do you think?
I still think he's good but he hasn't proved himself to be "all" that just yet, still has a lot to prove.
This is the nature of the beast. A fighter makes a slash on the boxing scene, no matter how big or small, and there will always be a faction of fans who either hype him as the next coming of Ali, or hate on him as though he was some Primo Carnera hype-job.
The good thing is he is getting fans excited and breathing life into the HW division. I enjoy watching his fights, but I see flaws that can be exposed by the right opponent. Is Wilder that opponent who can expose him...only time will tell. This is why he is a compelling figure in boxing right now. We are going to witness two of boxing's undefeated HW champions collide (eventually), and while neither of them is on the level of Bowe/Lewis in terms of talent, they are all we have at the moment. So enjoy it while it lasts.
I would say both.
I say over rated not because he isn't at the top of the division but a lot of people call him the champ or the man at heavy. Sure Joshua could be called the number 1 guy at the moment but champion in boxing have a very specific meaning and while beanie Wlad is a good win Wlad was not the man at that point and was really not rated because he had been off for so long so that doesn't make a guy the man. It put him at the front of the line and anyone wanting to be the man needs to fight Joshua but he has more work to do to really be the man.
Over hyped for sure because a lot of people really seem to think he has already achieved greatness. Greatness in boxing is not about one big night that is what Buster Douglas and Tyson Fury and a thousand others dudes have done have one good night but no matter how impressive a victory if there is just one that is just a great night not a great career.
Define 'overrated' and 'over hyped'! Relative to whom and what? Of course, anyone claiming he is already a great heavyweight is certainly 'overrating' him. Anyone claiming there is enough evidence to go by in predicting he can be an all time great like the Klitschko brothers or even greater is grossly 'overrating' him. However, he is still one of the best heavyweights in the world and is one of the most talented without a shadow of a doubt.
After his fight yesterday I think I had him overrated and I don't think he is as good as I once thought he was. His stamina and punch output is very poor. He has lots of punching power but he has to pace himself so much. I think he might be getting too much credit for KOing Wlad who was 41 years old and way past his prime.
He's overhyped and maybe a little overrated. However, I think he's great for the HW division. After 10+ years of Wladimir Klitschko the division could use a champion with a little personality. Wilder has a lot of personality but it seemed forced, like he's trying too hard. Fury came off as a complete loon. I think Joshua is better than some people are giving him credit but I saw a lot of room for improvement on Saturday.
IMO hes vulreable to the body and his chin is questionable, he got knocked out by David Price and Dubious in sparring with headgears FFS
He also lacks stamina and gasses everytime he throws a combination, add to that hes robotic and clunky.
Lewis was almost as big as AJ but he wasnt robotic and stiff like AJ
He's not close to an elite fighter but he's still a pretty good heavyweight. He could be the best heavyweight today but the standard isn't that high and none of them are anything close to being an elite boxer. I felt Fury was a level above them in terms of boxing ability and ring IQ but he's out of the picture.
It's not like he looks unbeatable if he's matched up with another top 5 or top 10 heavyweight. Even though he's 20-0 with 20 KO and looks dominant for the most part, i still don't get that "is there a guy out there that can beat him?" thought like you get with some other top undefeated dominant fighters, because i fully expect him to lose in the near future if he has decent opponents.
All in all, i think he's just a good fighter that has reached incredible fame and adulation from the public through good marketing, image and targeting casual fans who know nothing about boxing. Fair play to him, make that money while they can.
I think you just fall into the category of over hyping those two. Still waiting for Wilder to step into the ring and prove how good he is against a top contender. Gutted Ortiz was a cheating **** as that would have been a great fight for Wilder.
I think AJ and Wilder are at the same level but each with different weaknesses.
There's an argument for you to say Wilder is overrated but to say Tyson Fury is overrated is kind of silly. He shown he is a naturally pure boxer. Inside/Mid Range/Outside this guy doesn't care. Tyson Fury shown he's on another level. He would trash that so called 70's HW thread. Too big, Too Slick, Too White. Prime Tyson Fury would have been the future.
If anything AJ was the one overhyped. All those threads saying he would beat the likes of Mike Tyson/Lewis/Clay/Holmes/Toney.
I been saying for centuries that fury and wilder would make "EZ" work of AJ. Never got the AJ hype he is/was a bodybuilder with brawling boxing skills. Nothing special about him. If he was the 6 foot he would be nothing.

Of course he has a lot left to prove. He's still young, and relatively inexperienced.
He's made good progress so far, though, and if he can iron out some of the roughness in his work, he'll be at the top for some time.
Just look at 28 year-old Lennox. Comparable issues with regard to defence - not sharp enough, and just pawing with the jab; holes in the guard etc.
AJ could learn a lot for Lennox and Wladimir.
