A Filipino boxer who was involved in a recent scandal over faked brain scans has died after a sparring session, sports officials said Tuesday. Jeffrey Claro fell into a coma and later died after being knocked down in the second round of his match on Friday, said Dioscoro Bautista, head of the boxing division of the Games and Amusements Board. Man, boxing is serious. RIP.
A little point on sparring. I hear a lot about guys getting hurt doing sparring, obviously life affecting injuries are are but they do occur...which leads me to a simple question, why do these fighters and their trainers not regulate their sparring sessions? Fighters who know how to train also know how to regulate that. You shouldnt be getting into a tear up every time, heck you shouldnt even be getting into a tear up. Sparring is there to work on tactics and plaster over your weaknesses.
I remember training at West Ham ABC and while sparring, if two guys got too carried away, our coaches would tell them to step out of the ring and cool down. If it happened too many times, they'd be banned. A real coach knows how to handle sparring.
This might have hurt boxings credibility if the sport was still relevant.
Not the place for such immaturity.
Sad that a young life was cut short. It's a reminder of how gruesome the sport we love can be.
Hope his family is able to find peace.
Boxing is relevant like Nascar or the WNBA is relevant. I'm just saying, if something like this happened to the NFL or UFC it would be a huge scandal. There'd be congressional investigations, the morning talk shows would be running this story nonstop. But **** like this happens to boxing all the time and no one gives a ****. Not even hardcore fans really care that much.
This sort of tragedy is a fact of life in boxing unfortunately (or football etc). Also being some unknown across the world won't register.
There have been a few deaths in MMA

They aren't. Point is, if this happened in to the UFC people would care. It would the hurt sports credibility. Boxer dies from a brain injury after faking a test? Crickets
Dude, it's the Phillippines.
Why would congress in America be investigating boxers in the Phillippines?
Like seriously
I like how you tried to compare the ufc with the nfl like if theyre on the same level lol

Theyre just mma fanboys talkin ****. Ur right boxing will always be relevant.
So very easy to deceive cover up for change brain scans Peds tests anything especially when a fighter goes from state to state or country to Country... it will never be under control because there is not one Soul governing body either worldwide or nationally in the US
Condolences to the family.
Boxing is a tough sport.
I personally did sparring last wednesday and i was all beat up all that weekend.
Boxing is as real as it gets its not a game you play. It can be life and death in that ring when you get caught with a solid punch it wakes you up and you realize that you can get seriously hurt. That's why I hate these internet warriors criticizing fighters when they don't know how it is. Saying things like he scared or a coward or he doesn't hit hard if they knew every punch in the face hurts.

Man, this is bad and I hate it for te family. Boxing at some point as "A Sport" must adopt more fighter protections... Insurance should be built into all sanctioning fees, state-by-state and nationally, as should a retirement plan based on fighter payout. This is tooo longin coming, I will always stand by boxers, but nationally we should too.
