Thurman is clearly the #1 ww right now, not much to debate not debating that, but there has to be some sort of criteria for the ring rankings. If someone beats the #1 fighter, wouldn't that make them the #1 fighter? And this had nothing to do with Brooke/Spence/Thurman.

Ranking are a matter of opinion and different people or ranking places often don't agree. I think Spence's KO of Brook trumps Thurman's very close wins over Porter and Garcia. Spence was already looking good before he KOed Brook. If Thurman and Spence ever fight I think Spence will prove he is the best welterweight in the world.

I think Brook was top until Thurman beat Garcia, then he became no 1. Afterwards, Spence beat Brook and became no 2. Thurman has at least one more top name win on his record than Spence so that is the justification for some people.
