There is a lot of similarities between the two. They both retired after the rematches they took after the controversial victories.
Carl broke the record for the attendance post WW2 in the UK. Had a great build up for the fight and finished it in a brutal fashion.
Most people had Andre losing the first Sergey fight and then took the rematch. He started to dominate the 2nd part of the fight and although it was close, one could have seen where it is going. Referee partly ruined it with the weak stoppage, but they were only to be one winner in that fight.
Who do you think had a better final fight?
Ward had the history defining fight beating Kovalev - who was considered the beast of the division
Froch had a fight at Wembley which only brits will remember and tbh he beat a chinny Groves - who wasnt the beast of the division
When its all said and done Ward will be remember as a great, and Froch will be remembered as one of his victims
I voted Froch but you lot are spreading poison on here and trying to tarnish Ward. Kovalev got stopped fair and square. His last punch was a punch to Krushas belly FACT.
Sure... it was borderline...
The history books will show that as a major coup and in your context you make sense so I can see why you'd vote Ward. How ever Frochs night at Wembley. Boom, Blam Lights out!. What a right hand to end it all, in front of....... 80,000.
i always make sense, dog. i'm the best poster on this damn forum and i got a big one to boot.
On paper.
There is a difference.
ward ddin't just beat kovalev on paper in the second fight. he had him figured out and he beat him up. yeah, the fight ended on a low blow, and the low blows throughout the fight were numerous and should have warranted points and a break for kovalev, but let's not act like ward wasn't beating up kovalev without them, because he was.
a puncher's at a disadvantage in a rematch because the boxer has time to figure him out, has up to 12 rounds to figure out his timing, and gets a fresh start in the second fight. ward was looking like he was setting up a late round knockout or a wide win on points, and any decent boxing fan can see that.
tainted win? sure. just a win on paper? no way. ward beat kovalev up in the second fight.
and FYI this is coming from a guy who was at the first ifght and, along with everybody else in my section and everybody i talked to at every bar and casino i went to after the fight, thought kovalev won.
becuase one guy beat george groves, a guy who'd done very little before and who has done very little since. and ward beat sergey kovalev, a pound for pounder who was arguably the best 175 lber at the time and who had arguably beaten one of the very best SMW of all time in the first fight.

Ward said the required training to be at his best was too hard on his body and he had lost his desire to continue boxing so Ward also retired at the perfect time.
He doesn't have the desire then to be an all time great which he could have been
Ward's victory was more significant. He took out the baddest man in the division, while Froch never manned up to challenge Ward again. He ended his career defending his title against a local guy instead of becoming the man of the division.
Froch retired at the perfect time. Ward too soonWard said the required training to be at his best was too hard on his body and he had lost his desire to continue boxing so Ward also retired at the perfect time.
Froch had a contraversial stoppage in the first, Ward lost the first and got a gift. big difference there.
Froch had a brutal KO infront of 80,000 people. Ward had a bizarre Testicular TKO when the scorecards were level infront of a few thousand. Huge difference there.
How is this even a question ?

How is this even a question ?I agree with you. I thought the ref should have been giving Kovalev the 5 minutes to recover from low blows and giving Ward a warning for throwing them. Maybe Ward would have won even if this had been done but that's an opinion and not a fact.
Ward went out with a better victory but Froch got to end his career being loved so I'd vote him. Ward ends with people claiming it was a low blow. Froch ended as a warrior and hero to his country.
I voted Froch but you lot are spreading prison on here and trying to tarnish Ward. Kovalev got stopped fair and square. His last punch was a punch to Krushas belly FACT.
You have damn near lost your mind since canelo got beaten buddy, i just hope you have support near when linares splatters your boy tomorrow night :(

uhh dude the footage is all over the internet, why even try?
it wasn't just a nut shot it was an exceptionally low nut shot. You rarely see them that low.
the last punch of wards professional career was one of the most blatant low blows ever
doesn't get much worse than that
i really thought he would come back for a positive memory fight even against a lesser opponent before considering retirement just to get the taste out of everyones mouth
actually i still feel that way. I think he's pulling a floyd. Nobody wants to retire like that.
Tony Weeks robbed ward of a fantastic finish to a farewell fight. Froch often talks about the last punch he threw KO Groves. Ward's last shot was a pretty clear low blow. I wouldn't want that to be my last punch thrown

I see your point but Ward was fighting the monster in Kovalev, while Froch was fighting up and coming fighter in Groves.
If it was the same level of the opponent I would definitely go with Froch, but it wasn't. You can't compare Groves to Kovalev. So I am curious what people think.
