I want to start this off by saying, I'm a really big fan of Andre Ward. Great talent. Enjoyed watching him fight since I discivered him in the Super 6.
I will say, I do think he's been a bítch at times especially before he fought Kovalev. He said somehting like, and I'm paraphrasing here: So if I beat Kovalev, what's next? They're just going to put me in against guy that want to see me lose against.
I thought that was a bítch thing to say. Like, hey man --- you keep winning thats what you do.
Forget Goosen, he mishandled himself with the inactivity. But thats all fine and dandy because he came back and fought Kovalev and beat him solid 2x. I don't see how there is controversy in their first fight. I had it a clear 116-112 or somethng like that.
A poster here GhostofDempsey posted the below video today.
At first I'm like, 28 minutes hall naw. But I gave it a wack and I'll be damned --- Ward is dirty as fùck.
I absolutely despise holding and hitting. Holding/clinching is one thing, but to hit while doing it is completely something else.
I know Floyd uses his elbow to create distance, but Ward takes it to the next level with actual elbow strikes!!!
The headbutts, a lot of guys get accused of using their head and it's usually bullshít. But Ward spears his head very regularly.
The low blows, prior to today I thought a lot were borderline, but that video showed me a lot of tactics with low blows. He definitely used them to his advantage. Getting his positioning right so the ref is on the opponents back and out of view and etc.
He gets guys super frustrated by his dirty moves that they get taken out of their game.
So, the only logical question for me that I'm wrestling with is, how good was Ward really? Could he have beaten all of those guys if he fought clean?
I think one of the most disappointing things about Ward is that he was so incredibly dirty - but he didn't need to be.
I agree with this, He was a dirty fighter at times, but he didn't need to be. I don't think hes a chit human being tho, outside of the ring he seems like a good guy, its only in the ring and during fight build up's he can be a diva and a bit dirty. This is the fight game tho while i am not a fan of dirty tactics, if somebody can get away with bending the rules i am not mad and give the opponent the green light to do the same thing in return.
None of the fighters that you listed are disrespected and discredited labeled as dirty fighters despite they're questionable tactics.
He did mention Hatton and Hatton was notoriously a dirty fighter. Maybe an ATG dirty fighter.
I remember Castillo vs. Coralles but I don't remember Castillo vs mayweather so I didn't bother talking about it. And yeah you are right I shouldn't have qouted you. I got race baited 👎You didn't get "race-baited" which is a racist term in and of itself. Race and nationality are huge factors in boxing and acknowledging that isn't "race-baiting". To deny that race plays a factor in how people see/judge certain fighters is you just lying to yourself. You don't need to ever quote me again.
I think one of the most disappointing things about Ward is that he was so incredibly dirty - but he didn't need to be.
Some guys need to make a fight dirty so that they have a chance at winning. Ward didn't need that. He was dirty because that was what he wanted to be.
I had him as definite #1 when he retired, and admired his skills since the super 6. I won money by betting on him. But I think of him as a shitty human being.
Cool. Respect.
The double standard is not a different topic because that's my whole point here. People have double standards based on racial politics. None of the fighters that you listed are disrespected and discredited labeled as dirty fighters despite they're questionable tactics. I also notice how you ignored my floyd-Castillo analogy which proves that people have no problem with guys who fight "dirty" when it's someone that they like or is fighting someone that they don't like. People are full of it. This Ward hate isn't about him being "dirty", that's a smokescreen.
If you didn't want to talk about race then you shouldn't have quoted me. I didn't quote you asking you to chime in on my thoughts.
You just acknowledged my point that boxing is extremely racialized so I don't feel the need to argue with you trying to deny the racialized motives for boxing fans. If anyone is crying it's you and the rest crying about Ward being dirty. Ward retiring at the top of his game undefeated in good health on his own terms without a F to give to boxing "fans" like you all just burns your souls and I love it. That earns him even more of my respect. You mad?

I can't speak for this site but I take your word. I guess my point would be I don't care if that is the case, ANY race baiting/racial agenda BS has no place.
You are right about boxing.
Cool. Respect.
Why is it irrational? He is a dirty fighter. He uses illegal boxing tactics. And ward being a dirty fighter has nothing to do with other fighters being dirty. If you are saying that a person is racist because they point out how ward is dirty but not other fighters that's a different topic all together. There are plenty of dirty fighters, salido, Hatton, klitschko and others. Some are more dirty than others. So based on your response Ward is a clean fighter who doesn't use illegal tactics. If that's how you feel than that's cool, but I am not interested in talking about race. This site is less and less about boxing and more and more about race and I don't really care who started it first, because that doesn't matter. The double standard is not a different topic because that's my whole point here. This is true. They will play up race any time at all if they think it will sell a fight.
People are freaking out because theyres teams like the Redskins or the Indians. If they think that is a big deal, those snowflakes couldnt handle a 30 minute boxing promo thats for sure.

Im going to have to school you for everything else there though... you saying Hatton was never labelled dirty? Were you even watching boxing for Hatton-Kostya or were you still in diapers? Go look up the outcry at all of Hatton's fouling.
And Wlad was never criticized for constant holding??? now I know you are just lying to push an agenda, even you dont believe that.
Ward is dirty as chit and that is reality. Stop crying about it. Go watch the video, there is 25 minutes of him constantly fouling on there. You are showing extreme bias and inability to see reality that conflicts with your racial agenda.

I was talking about everyone who agrees. I don't respect anything that you said in this post regarding ward. To call him a "dirty fighter" is irrational. That's not a valid opinion. That's just some hate that seems to be based on things that have nothing to do with boxing. Klitscho held his entire career and he's not called a dirty fighter. Hatton mugged his opponents including holding and hitting his whole career and isn't labeled dirty. Look at how this site views the first Floyd-Castillo fight lol. None of the Floyd haters(which are the same ones who hate ward btw) csll out Castillo for his "dirty" tactics. They applaud him for how he roughed up and mauled Floyd even going so far as to pretend as if he won.
So yea I'm calling BS. Anybody who tries to disrespect or discredit ward as a dirty fighter is full of it and I suspect them of having ulterior motives.
From my experience on this site which seems a lot longer than yours, the race baiting wasn't started by blacks. Thats my point.
Boxing is the most racialized sport of all. It's better to be honest about it.

You are right about boxing.
He pushes his opponent off using his forearm on the guys throat. Totally illegal..
It's smothering, skinny fighters have to do that. I also do that, otherwise bad.
I always respected Floyd's attitude, he served as a good example for all. I haven't even seen him doing some accidental foul.

Ward is holyfield level dirty.
Maidana is dirtier than mayweather/hopkins but no where near as bad as ward.
ali was pretty dirty with foreman and the ref did nothing about it. foreman didnt respond either, he should have nut shotted him for continuously pulling his neck down, that would have got his attention.
maidana was dirty with mayweather but mayweather knows the game well and knows to use his elbows in return, which he did. It was pretty funny when maidana bit him on the gloves, i have to admit.
I dont know why people make a big deal out of tyson biting holyfields ear, he was being headbutted to ****, holyfield deserved it. Like wise mayweather punching out ortiz, which was not even a foul, but somehow people hate mayweather so much that they can rationalize the argument that mayweather should be kind to ortiz after being donkey head butted multiple times.
"You People" sounds like you were referring to everyone who was agreeing with the OP.
No need to dumb yourself down, you will be doing yourself a favor by ignoring trolls and racist/non-racist idiots.
anyways since you enjoy debating sports do you think that Ward was a dirty fighter? I think he was a dirty fighter and very good at hiding it. He was also a very good fighter but getting to where he got was a lot easier with dirty tricks (elbows, headbutts, holding and hitting etc.) than if he did it the clean way.I was talking about everyone who agrees. You aren't saying anything I'm denying. What that guy said was clearly racist. I fully acknowledge that there is racism against black fighters. What I don't acknowledge is that there is only prejudice against black fighters and this is a one way street. Sorry that's a crock. Me saying that doesn't validate racism against blacks or any group.
There is simply too much race baiting BS on this site and others. From my experience on this site which seems a lot longer than yours, the race baiting wasn't started by blacks. Thats my point.
Boxing is the most racialized sport of all. It's better to be honest about it.
You need to re-evaluate your reasoning because I did box competively. Undefeated in the Am's. Trained/Sparred with domestic and world champs, used to whip on an IKSA world champ.
I've seen so many boxing matches I lost count somewhere around 6,000.
Amateurs is not the professionals buddy amatuers is a sport prod is a business. I boxed amatuers too buti box professionally now and it OS different when other people are investing money in they like to see you win.
I made no such insinuation. I clearly stated that a lot of the posters here are racist. I'm not a coward who needs to hide the truth. The slant against black fighters here is undeniable. The poster that I quoted just stated it plainly instead of talking in code.
I don't have any issue with people who have differing opinions and I enjoy debates on sports. I'm not going to dumb myself down and ignore the obvious though.

Man, that video of Ward is 25 minutes of non-stop moves where you can point to refs should be doing more than they do in there.
It's a 10 point system. Start deducting some points and you would see these tactics reduced.
I suspect that it's kind of hard to deny that bigotry was associated with the criticism of ward in a post that was blatantly and undeniably bigoted.
Miss me with that trump "both sides" garbage. People reacting to obviously coded bigotry doesn't make them the same as the bigots.
There's really nothing you can tell me about this site. I don't post much but I've been a poster for years. I'm "al sharpton's bodyguard" with my rep permanently put in the red simply because I speak in defense of black fighters unfairly hated on and outright disrespected. None of the posters who hate on black fighters are in the red, so it pretty much is a one way street.
For this to be a boxing forum the respect for the fighters and even the sport itself is severely lacking.

I'm not a Floyd fan but I too can never say I saw him engage in dirty tactics.
