... Look at Weeks' position in the images!... :)
Yeah, he had perfect position and not much of an excuse to blow that call.
I think Kovalev played himself a bit by overreacting to borderline/clean blows earlier, though.
Maybe. I don't disagree with you that Kovalev put himself in this position.
Yeah, the ref blew it. The NSAC and fans had the luxury of multiple angles, slow motion footage though and still denied what was plainly visible.

1)... Yes, maybe... But this means he's not a great fighter, at the end of the day...
2) even before the commission, it was the ref who immediately waved "stop" right on a blatant blow to the groin!!! :)
He should have started a count if kovalev sat on the ropes.
We all knew it was an obvious low blow . His glove covered the letter B and thats a fulfull10-12 inches below his belly button .
It happened 3 times in the last minute of the fight. the ref stops the fight instead of counting and they were supposed body shots not head shots.

It is possible that his conditioning wasn't up to par, but I attributed it to his state of mind not being good. He wanted to hurt Ward badly and wasn't fighting calmly. It can affect a person's breathing among other things.
I'm more sickened by the commission and the fans who let it slide like it doesn't matter that a great fight was ended with illegal punches.

..."negative energy"? IDK what it means, it isn't scientifically proven to exist...
... Kova entered the ring anxious about oneself, not confident... and displaying a pathetic conditioning... (Ward's right couldn't shake Brand, ffs...)

I agree.ward kandef a good shot, now finish fair. But he didnt.
But like is other great 1st and 2nd fights there was a third. And ward is ducking that.
He is a fighter known for illegal tactics and was permitted to do so which is sickening .

Low-blows, elbows, headbutts, clinches, pushing with forearms into face and throat. He had a full arsenal of tactics that he used to defeat Euro-stiffs.
Imagine if Kovalev or GGG had Ward's resume? The Ward fans would be tearing it up, calling Abraham, Kessler and Froch overrated bums. What if GGG came up and demanded a 172 lb. catch weight with Paul Smith...how would that be received by the haters?
He came into that ring with a lot of negative energy and looked like he was wearing down as the fight moved into the later rounds. It is quite possible Ward would have beat, or even stopped him legally, as it looked like he was on his way to doing that round. He stunned him with a nice right hand and had Kovalev on his heels.
None of that changes the reality of how the fight ended.

Hometown advantage is the biggest one in my opinion since that is the main reason why he is even allowed to get a way with his illegal tactics in the first place. Put him in a neutral arena outside of USA against any top fighter from 160 pounds - 175 pounds and he either gets disqualified or beaten soundly, by stoppage or decision.

... tbh: I can't say much in Kova's defense -- he showed up with such a poor stamina...

Well hey, as long as the slick American wins over the Russian, does it really matter if he did it illegally? Apparently that is good enough for the NSAC :lol1:

The Q is for losing (on paper) against Ward twice and still beating him up so bad WARD QUIT AND RETIRED after a so called TKO win...
If that is your spin, go with it. Maybe you and Kov can drive to Ward's HOF induction together. You can rub his sore dick all you want on the ride there.
... it clearly shows that it was on the belt line, doe!

can call him a quitter but how about you let someone punch you in the balls and see what your instant reaction is....
Stop making excuses for this quitter. The truth is he's looked weak ever since they caught Povetkin with the melodium or whatever it was. Ward knew if he just worked the body he would crumble.
You guys are funny. You want ward DQ'd or something like that but these are the same tactics you fuckboys say should be used to beat guys like Floyd or Crawford.
Can't have it both ways.
Book your hotels now. There might be a lot of Oakland people at the ceremony.
On second thought, I changed my mind.
While I feel the solid clinch work has been the foundation of his success his entire career, I think the moment that really punctuated his career, his high watermark of illegal tactical success, was finishing Kovalev with low blows.
He went out with a bang. It was as flagrant as can be, and yet somehow he still gets away with it.

A lot more people than just Kovalev think it.
...
I scored it for Kov as well. But I go with the official scoring of the judges. Ward is officially 2-0, 1KO against Kov. Kov is 0-2-0 1Q against Ward.
Give you one guess what the Q is for??????
