I mean, that's the only thing he has left. He lost to Roy Jones, got beaten by 3 white boys... only relevant name is his resume is de la hoya and de la hoya was a small guy.
Do you mean getting the snot beaten out of him by Kovalev and losing a 120-107 decision? Getting knocked out of the ring by a white boy?
When he lost to Kovalev he was older than dirt.
He's still champion so his next fight will count as his 20th defense. Anytime the champion leaves the ring still champion it's a sucessful title defense.
Like Hopkins has an NC that's considered a successful title defense.
JMM firstagainst Manny was consuidered a sucessful titlr defense.
Castillio's 2nd fight against Johnson was considered a successful title defense.
not true at all man..plus Ouma was his 1st defense as the fight before was his 1st fight with the regular title

You can be cute about it and celebrate your ignorance and bias if it gives you gigs but everyone knows GG has nothing on Hopkins in terms of legacy. There's still time, but people remember who you fought and GG has just 1 memorable name on his resume, and he didn't even get a W for that one.
If anything you're drawing attention to the fact that Golovkin's resume is sad and empty compared to Hopkins. And, sorry if this blown your little mind, but I like GG way more than I like Hopkins.
When people think Hopkins, the last thing they think about is the record. They think of the great fighters he fought. How he was still winning against decent fighters, well into his 40's. I don't think Golovkin presents any threat to BHop's legacy, whatsoever.

didnt win the Canelo fight so how was it a successful defense?

I'm assuming many are counting the Brook fight which didn't include the WBA title but it was still his 18th straight fight defending a title of some sort which gave him 17 defenses.
Jacobs would be the 18th
and Canelo would be 19th.
So he has either 18 or 19 title defense assuming how you look at. His next fight would be 20th and after that would be his 21st.

count them yourself and tell me how you got 19...his 1st defense of the regular title was Ouma..the last defense was Jacobs..thats 17

Does anyone care about the # of defenses Hagler had?
That Roy Jones had 11 defenses of his 175lb. title?
No, because their dossier extends beyond that. They beat greats, some won titles in multiple divisions. Or we'd all be touting Sven Ottke and his 20-some odd title defenses.
:hail::hail:
He is regarded as a "great" Middleweight because of his defense record. However he is NOT an ATG boxer and his "journey" as an ageless wonder ended badly by getting shut out by Koval and then demolished by a class C+ fighter via KO!
If you review his record at Middleweight carefully there is very little to get excited about. To me he is NOT a top ten Middleweight
by any stretch!
Ray
absolutely agree
If you can't clearly see this, then you are blind.
Casuals don't have any idea who B-Hop even is.
The executioner mask used to fool my friends into thinking that he was a mike Tyson, concussive puncher.
They'd watch a jab-jab-headbutt-clinch sequnce for a few rounds, and then we'd go outside and smoke a joint instead.
Outside of obsessives on here, no one will remember B-Hop. He knows this.
His jealousy of GGG is palpable.
could not have said it any better

It doesn't matter, have you heard him talking lately? In about 10 years he will be sipping applesauce through a straw
I noticed that also. He didn't sound this bad around the Kovalev fight.
He doesn't sound too good now.
lmfao this loser doesn't even know basic arithmetics
let's laugh at him

how the hell does he have 19 defenses?? even if you count his regular title defenses he is only at 17 Ouma being his 1st defense and Jacobs being the last

People call GGG overrated and hyped up. Hopkins is the real hypejob in this conversation.
Please explain how...His resume is far better then GGG's and he accomplished FAR MORE THEN GGG
How can you even mention GGG to Hopkins???lol
Hopkins beat
Oscar
Tito
Winky
Pavlik
Tarver
Pascal
Roy Jones
unified 175 over 46 years old
was lineal at 160 and 175.....stop it!!!
According to the opinion of people who actually matter, aka boxing historians, GGG has 19 defenses.
