Unify the title, break Hopkins title defense record and walk away. Give the haters a chance to catch their breath, take a break and come back with renewed energy to vent their frustration at their sh**ty lives on another undeserving fighter.

Is BJS really a HOF entry scalp? I think fighting BJS will be a completely forgetable fight...unless he loses to him & helps BJS get a name off of him. Is Charlo a HOF scalp with 1 MW win & a relatively whatever 154 history? I think both of those guys got wayyyyyy more to prove to get where GGG was a couple years back let alone hold the ticket to the HOF for GGG. Canelo is GGG's key to getting into the HOF & honestly that draw that most fans thought was a win likely is enough if you follow the low barrier of entry to the HOF. He won't need to do anything post a Canelo official win to get in there. And soon after that rematch, win or lose, a combo of all that money he'll have will likely lead to his demise like it does for most boxers + his age will likely catch up with him, as I think its done already to some degree, so he's unlikely to get past some of these guys coming up who've done nothing, but some suspect can beat GGG & Canelo like Charlo. BJS is only a decent scalp, not a great one, the name doesn't matter, but the status of undisputed champion does. It's not about BJS, it's about his belt. Charlo and BJS are the best available options for Golovkin because he ain't beating Canelo in a rematch. And he can't improve his resume with other names, not with Derevyanchenko or mummy version of Cotto It doesn't matter if some people thought he won, robbery or close fight, a draw is a draw. Realistically he doesn't have a legit win over Canelo, so that draw won't help him to get in HOF. There's only two good fight available for Golovkin before his retirement, BJS and Charlo. Canelo is the money fight, but it's gonna be L for sure

Yes very true, and it will almost certainly end up going to the rematch with Canelo. It simply makes more sense financially and Jacobs was a difficult prospect the first time, GGG has a lot more to lose if he faced Jacobs. A lot more to lose, and less to gain financially. When a boxer gets to a certain age, and I really believe that they only have a couple more fights in them before they retire, then I don't hold it against them when they look for money over legacy.

The best chance to win is to go to 168 and fight benavidez or Ramirez. They are younger but IMO do not have the experience to deal with GGG. Maybe GGG goes to MSG and fights Cotto-that or Saunders in England should generate the most money. I don't think you want any part of Ramirez. He's got a big reach advantage and can't punch..

I mean I got great respect for guys like Floyd, Klitschko, Oscar, Manny & others that are the exception more than the rule in waking up in silk pjs & living like the prince of Zamunda, but I don't think thats something most guys are capable of or should even wanna attempt in this sport ideally. Get in, get paid, gtfo. And GGG has been around trying to get that money he deserves for a long time & he's getting it now & why risk your health any more at some point in time when you've accomplished so much & now have the money + accomplishments + respect. All you tend to get extra for sticking around too long is more money that have been traded off for brain cells & future health issues. If there's no big risk for health, any elite boxer supposed to have competitive spirit that won't let him retire until he's guaranteed to get in Hall of Fame and leave some mark in the history. Point, blank, period. Golovkin needs scalps like Charlo and BJS, he can leave the sport then and even if he beats them, it's unlikely he's going to be remembered after retirement

I kinda agree with GGG retiring soon, because all these younger guys are only going to get better. The charlos, andradre, jacobs, canelo etc And some of them don't bring the money that he and his team needs but they bring aggression. He doesn't want to find himself in the same position that Sergio Martinez was a couple of years ago. People would accuse him of ducking just like they did with Martinez.

Canelo isn't going anywhere for years. Too much money for him. He's a guy who could become a billionaire like Floyd with all the fights he has left with these May & September fights over the next 5+ years. I'd agree GGG is unlikely to have more than 5 fights & I wouldn't be surprised if its 1 or 2 like the OP is stating. I'd hope for GGG to get out of the game in the next 12-36 months for sure. Based on the decline we've seen in GGG in these last few fights that could just be attributed to fighting tip top opponents I don't think I'd wanna see him stick around too much longer. He's made nice money for awhile, he's making crazy money for last Saturday & he's for sure got one more of those in him. Whats the point to having an 8 digit bank account at almost 40 years old & taking punches to the head at a certain point? I guess I just can't see past 5 or 6 fights right now for Canelo. That's three years out. He has navigated through 154 and 160 in a way he can pull in other big names to keep his PPV numbers high (Mayweather, Cotto, GGG) while draining himself to make weight at these divisions. After GGG, I don't see the big money pouring in--no more big names on the horizon, especially if the Mexican fanbase starts losing interest. They nearly booed him out of the ring Saturday night for his non-Mexican performance. He was similarly booed by Mexican fans after his lackluster showing against Floyd. It took a while to regain their confidence in him. So at 160/168 he can do GGG rematch, possible fights with Lemieux, Saunders, Eubank, DeGale, Ramirez. I'm not so sure he wants to get in there with Jacobs or Charlo. I also don't see the big money flowing in from those fights unless each fighter's respective PR teams can hype them up, maybe even fight on foreign soil. Canelo struggles with weight and stamina. There are no more boogeymen to conquer and I don't see any on the horizon. Some fighters continue to fight for the glory. They've made their fortune but can't stay out of the limelight. Their ego looks at a winning fighter and they are convinced they can come back and beat them. Fighting is in their blood. I believe that is why Manny continues to fight past his prime. He loves being in the spotlight, the entourages, the media attention, the crowds cheering. Leonard was the same way, making several comebacks, not only for the money but the glory as well. I would hope GGG retires in two years or less. There is nothing left to prove after Canelo. I would like to see him unify the division before he goes. I see Charlo as the future of 160, possibly even 168.

GGG will likely try to unify, and then rematch Canelo. From there I don't know what else there is to accomplish at 160. At 168 there isn't anything compelling unless he can get a fight with DeGale overseas. I don't think GGG will want to fight Charlo etiher. In two years or less, Charlo will be the MW king providing he can beat Jacobs. Alvarez, depending on what the coming numbers for the Golovkin fight look like (after doing massive numbers with Chavez Jr and Cotto, a really good number with Khan, and good numbers for the rest of his PPV fights), is all of 27 years old and is now on the money (between his money from Mexico, the money from the live gate in the US, and his money on PPV, Alvarez is likely comfortably making $20m+ per fight at this point). Unless he gets pulled into a big-time TV/film career, I don't see Alvarez leaving boxing for some time; Alvarez targets the WBO belt (if Golovkin and his camp are dumb enough to not simply take that fight now while Alvarez waits for May), defends that belt against the guys he wants to fight (there'll obviously be fights that don't get made, but to act as if there aren't middleweight fighters that he can beat is a bit much), and then end his run picking/choosing fights at 168lbs. Canelo's not going to be Hopkins, but I can easily see him fighting for another 5 years, before the skills start to fade and he and his camp look for something else to do. Oscar fought until he was 36, but he was really done by about the time he was 32. 5 years, and if Alvarez is simply down to the May/September schedule, and you're talking about navigating 10 fights. Saunders, Lemieux, Golovkin rematch in May 2019, and you've already settled 3 of the 10 fights.

Thoughts? lil g had a normal performance but he did a great job at blocking those punches with his face & body though. bily joe is easy pickings, he should fight the mandatory that was going to be for the winner of the fight, Jermall Charlo or just sit back & wait for the rematch in May. He was never on the "decline" it was the quality of opponents until the last two that he honestly lost.
