Getting hit more while landing less = Superior Defense?

Golovkin missed almost 500 punches. That's pretty good defense.

Golovkin's defense in this fight was at peak level (for his age). He just proved that the Kell Brook fight was a one off where he purposefully abandoned his defense, just so that he can get the KO as fast as possible without having the intentions of out boxing Brook (like he did to Canelo tonight). When someone takes risks on getting hit by their opponent just so that they can land a punch of their own, that someone will get hit more and look defensively poor but is also more likely to get the knockout fast. That was the case with GGG against Kell Brook. In this fight, there is no doubt in my mind that GGG showed the better defense of the two. GGG was making Canelo look like an amateur with those wild, swinging and missed counter punches which were either hitting air or getting blocked. Offensively, Canelo was the one who looked the less versatile of the two and looked more confused because of GGG's defense. As soon as GGG neutralized Canelo's counter punching strategy by controlling the distance and using evasive footwork and movement, Canelo started to look confused and didn't come up with any offensive strategies. He wasn't able to lead much either because GGG simply controlled range better. I think the MAIN problem is that individuals usually confuse EFFECTIVENESS with FLASHINESS / FLAMBOYANCY. Golovkins's defense was clearly more effective. Whereas Canelo Alvarez's defense looked flashier / more flamboyant. The main criteria to judging the quality of a boxing move is by the effectiveness of it and in that regard, Golovkin was clearly better. Green K and this fight really expose those who actually know what they're watching and those of us who like the sport when they're drunk but really don't know what they're watching. So many of Canelo's punches caught the gloves or just flat out missed.

Did laugh at when he shook his head no after eating one of the cleanest shots of the fight doe. Ummmmm, I didn't mention anything about Compubox. Nor would do I need Compubox to know Canelo landed far less, while Golovkin landed far more. He didn't really land all that clean and consistent until maybe the 10th round when Golovkin started to tire and lean in while in the middle of the ring which allowed Canelo to put some punches together. The early rounds saw Canelo land one here and one there while sometimes missing by several inches. Canelo's defense is quality but it was the lesser defense of the two fighters tonight. Just because you slip one punch here and one punch there doesn't make you defense superior in my opinion. Edit: It would seem I did make a small mention to CB, but it wasn't needed. It was clear who's defense was better throughout the fight.

"Oh look at that nice boy, he is even telling me when a shot misses! I think I'll give him some extra rounds for making this so easy for me to score!"
