He loses twice, both to the same man who is naturally bigger, a big puncher and also a solid fighter. No shame in that. And yet I'm already seeing people hating on Gonzalez and calling him overrated. It just shows how quick people turn their backs on a fighter who end up losing when that's part of the game.
I don't know how Gonzalez will look if he fights again or if he'll ever be the same again. But show some respect to a great fighter like Gonzalez. He's already achieved enough to be considered an ATG and was dominant in the lower weights. And unlike Ricardo Lopez he actually took risks and moved up in 3 weight classes to fight the best possible guys.
Was it too much to consider him as p4p #1? Probably. But he's had a solid career that warrants him a place in the HoF.
He was overrated by some people (Kellerman & Lampley) who said he was #1 P4P.
I never felt he was in the top 10 p4p, but at the same time I never felt he was garbage.
I had him no. 2 p4p but that was only after a couple of retirments and losses for other guys but why couldn't you see him top 10? he has arguably the best resume south of bantam and probably the most achievements in thsoe lower divisions of any fighter in the last 10 years.
In the last 3-4 years, can you relaly name 10 guys who could be consistently ranked above him p4p? I think that would be pretty hard to do.
One thing I'll say is he should have fought el Gallo. My only issue with him. That fight should have happened this year or last year. He didn't run or cherry pick but he let it over marinate trying to make paydays.

NSB is full of idiots, what can you do?
The reality is, RG went oen division too far, still managed to gain some success and then lost to a good, rugged, much bigger fighter. No harm in that.
Heck, he could still come back in rematches against Cuadras or Estrada although I think the latter has hit his peak and will rule the division soon.
In all honesty, if RG is able to do physically do it, he could still move down 3lb to fly and pick up some more title and the nretire as champ. He may never be as good as he was when I saw him up wins over guys like Estrada, Blanq, Yaegashi, Sosa and Viloria. As anyone who follows the sport known, 30 is ancient for most smaller guys.
Much bigger man?
Sor has the same reach and height, ignorant.
Gonzalez said that he cant make the 112 again, he said this 2 years ago, pice of ignorant.
Wins like a Estrada in 108 pounds?
How you think that the people will criticize Canelo if he fights with GGG in 155 pounds?
Blanq? Who the fu.ck is he?
Yaegashi? A fuc.king B class champ, he never was a good fighter, he lost all his important fights.
Melindo K.Oed him in round 1.
Sosa? Are you i.diot?
Sosa had like 40 years old.
Viloria was 35 years old and that fight was 3 years after Estrada schooled Brian.
People from here is too ignorant.
lolol **** that diva. Glad he got stopped
Exactly.
This diva has a soft career the most part of the time.
This diva was crying for millions to fight with Estrada and then he accepted low payday to fight bums or old men like Sosa o Viloria.
:pat:
Today there are like 50 titles in each division and this midget never unified one division of 4.

Ricardo Lopez, IGNORANT, was really a natural 105 pounds fighter, he always was in that weight without training camps.
And he cleaned for years a weight.
Gonzalez never clean a division, NEVER UNIFIED.
Credit for what?
Guy had a soft career till the Cuadras fight...
Only had 3 elite fighters in his career:
Estrada IN 108 POUNDS, ESTRADA DRAINED HIMSELF 4 POUNDS.
CUADRAS, THAT WHOOPED HIS ASS SO BAD AND THIS THAI.
Roman ducked the rematch with Estrada in the flyweight division when both were champs.
Estrada had the WBO AND WBA BELTS.
Choco Rajas had the WBC.
But Choco said: "give me 2 million to fight with Estrada"
And nope, he never was dominant because he never unified a division.
Very good fighter, but on the level of Santa Cruz.
This is why boxers say "I don't fight for the fans, I fight for myself". These so called "fans" haven't gotta get hit in the head and will turn their back on you as soon as you lose. I hope he doesn't take the loss too hard and comes back stronger. He's always been exciting and fun to watch so I will continue to support him.
We were only told he should dominate Rungvisai by people who dont follow the division and just boxrec'd him.
Anyone who saw at least his fight with Cuadras knew that he was one of the too dogs in the division, and a nightmare stylewise for a pressure fighter like Gonzalez. Plus the natural size as well. Sometimes fight night weights dont tell the full story (see Kell Brook vs GGG for example). RG couldnt put a dent in the guy.
I bet on Rungvisai at 10/1 in their first fight. Crazy odds.
Good points. I also think a lot of posters/ fans are swayed by HBO commentators. Jim and Max made Gonzalez out to be this force of nature we had never seen. Then Espn helped them push him.
Meanwhile, people that knew about him and saw him fight often praised him but not to the degree jim and max did.

I see you all are going to stick with this "he loss to a bigger man" theme. I frankly saw no huge size difference but I did see that Gonzalez has no idea how to fight a southpaw or how to block punches with his gloves instead of his face.

I don't know that you can get that upset with those who feel he is over rated. While I do not, he was relatively unknown, then all of the sudden was ranked as the #1 p4p boxer. He then loses to an opponent we were told he should dominate.
Yes the loss was controversial but he still was in a close fight in a showcase fight which made people have questions. (I'm talking reasonable people not nsb dregs and idiots). Then he gets ktfo in the rematch.

I don't understand fans who completely jump all over a fighter like Roman G who loses. They act as if every ounce of work he's put into his career was a fluke. Some people wait for fighters to lose just to say "see, they're overrated and I knew it all along! give me a cookie!"
Your issue is not with Roman G. It's with the idea of hype. If promoters and networks didn't hype fighters, the fighters wouldn't get exposure and therefor get paid the way they should. If there is a fighter who is showing skills, winning good fights and has a good, if not undefeated, record, of course they will be hyped up. It's the job of promoters and networks to find the next top fighter. So when one comes along showing promise, they will begin to build them up. Think of it as investing. Because then their BIG-TIME break comes in a fight with a lot of eyes, if they prove to be who they're hyped up to be, everybody including the fighter begins to win. If they lose in that big fight, then oh well, sometimes it's worth the gamble.
However Roman G has shown his worth. Sure he may not be undefeated anymore, but one of two things will happen. Either he'll continue to fall and be a case of a very good fighter who could have been greater, but lost to a bigger man and was never the same. Or he'll recover, win some more fights and beat other top fighters and end up a greater fighter than he was.
Losses don't completely derail your career all of the time. Your issue is not with Roman G. So don't bash him.

Some fighters could handle a loss some can't look at broner he thought he was the next mayweather got raped in the ring didn't learn from his mistakes and was broken mentally.chocolatito thought he was 1p4p was asking for million dollar paydays talking down on cuadras and estrada then lost a decision to the Thai fighter instead of coming in confident and motivated ready to prove he didn't lose the 1st fight he came in looking sloppy with no defence
He lost that means he was always trash obviously that's how it works around here. For real tho everyone with half a brain doesn't sh*t on a guys entire career when they finally loose .That being said I never believed the HBO hype train it was too much and annoying to the point where when he lost that first fight after Jim was kissing his ass the whole fight calling every time he landed even a look and ignoring Rungvisais efforts I was pretty amused. But I thought he would turn it around and recover on the second fight and we may get a third which would have been awesome, sadly he didn't.
