Whoever can dictate the pace will be the victor IMO.
Canelo will obviously want a slower and more controlled pace where he has Golovkin thinking too much. This way he can pick his shots, counter punch, and land the smoother combinations. He's going to need to get Golovkins respect early on (think body shots) and maintain a controlled pace in route to a UD.
GGG on the other hand, will have to establish a more frentic and high volume pace to shell up Canelo and attempt to drown him out. I'm expecting a lot of jabs and throw away punches to set up the bigger stuff in a high volume assault.
Who do you think controls the pace better?
I think your underestimating canelo to be fair. He has solid power and excellent counter punches but ultimately I agree about the outcome. Looking forward to it.
Golovkin has:
1.Better Ring IQ. Some casuals don't see it.
2.The percentage radio between he getting hit and him hitting the opponent is great.
3.I think his stamina is better than Canelo's
4.More proven power.
5. Great Jab if he needs it. While I think he will use it, that will not be his winning ticket. I think a shot to the liver will be his weapon to win.
I do not see Canelo going the distance.
Ultimately, this fight boils down to if Canelo can take GGG's punches. I don't think he can. I don't even think he has enough ring smarts to avoid the pressure GGG will put on him. He'll look confused, hurt and hopeless by the middle rounds.
You're assuming a lot here and creating false narratives. Obviously it's still all about landing punches but these two guys fight in different paces. Ring generalship and pace are a very important part of boxing.
This fight has nothing to do with Pacquiao/Mayweather, let that fight go already and expand your knowledge with the hundreds of other fights that have happened since then.
if we cant learn from our mistakes we are doomed to repeat them. punches are certainly more important than subjective things like ring generalship. there is nothing subjective about landing a clean flush punch that knocks your opponents head back. what is subjective is saying who is in control of the fight. for me its quite simple. if you are landing the cleaner flusher punches you are in control. i dont let my bias lead me. you can twist yourself into a pretzel trying to come up with reasons why one guy is winning when the other guy is landing the cleaner flusher punches but that wont make it right. you still got to put in the work and when you dont, you dont deserve to win simply because you are doing things that on paper would be to your advantage but in reality...they arent.
Nope but I saw Canelo was the aggressor in that one...
I was arguing power, it was surprising to me for Canelo to not hurt the smaller and older Cotto at all. A guy who had been rocked even back in his 140 pound days. Canelo looked good but he never had Cotto in trouble who came forward all night.
What power? Let's get real. He can hit all the Khans in the world and the washed up fighters.
He doesn't really move well, so I think Glolovkin won't have to chase him too much loosing strength and stamina in the process.
Can Canelo take Golovkin's punches? I don't think so.
One shot to the liver and Canelo will go down around the 7-8. If he lasts so long.
Not seeing it.

stop creating self fulfilling prophecies. the person who deserves to win will be the person landing the cleaner punches. slow pace or not. dont do the same thing you did in floyd-pac and give it to floyd simply because it was boring while ignoring who was landing the cleaner punches.

Golovkin is definitely the puncher here. I was shocked that Canelo never made a dent on the smaller, older Cotto who came forward all night.
GGG is not going to slow down just because Canelo hits him with some hard punches to the head or body or both. GGG has fought punchers like Stevens, Lemieux and Jacobs before and he doesn't slow his pace for them. He has never been knocked down as an amateur or a pro and he takes hard punches very well. I think he will set his normal fast high pressure pace, coming forward and throwing bombs to head and body. Canelo will have to deal with GGG's hard attack as best he can because he won't be able to slow him down. No one has yet.
Right, but Canelo is better than those guys you mentioned. And we have seen Golivkin freeze up in moments when getting tagged several times, he's also ripe for a good counter puncher. I will say that Canelo will have to not just slow down the pace but up his activity and keep the fight close to the middle of the ring. No easy tasks.
The key to this fight is simple to me. Can GGG handle Canelos power comfortably? If he can, he will stalk canelo down and eventually stop him somewhere around rds 9 or 10.

Not sure about that. From what I've seen, when punches are flying at GGG he tends to shell up and try to pick them off rather than counter a lot. If Canelo pushed the action he could have GGG stalling offensively. I think GGG sets the pace though with the ramrod jab and walks Canelo down all night and uses a body attack to break him eventually. Canelo is going to land some big shots himself though as GGG comes in. If GGG can take those punches easily then Canelo is toast. The Canelo bodywork will decide if he's in this fight going into the later rounds. He's gotta slow GGG down from walking in
Good points, I really think the jab will be the key for GGG. I expect him to throw jabs all night.

GGG is going to put on a clinic on jabbing and distance control. At some point it will turn into a brawl when canelo's corner feels he's being outboxed.
I agree with the jabbing clinic but not sure it will turn into a brawl unless GGG allows it. Canelo doesn't have the ability to do anything different when he's being outboxed. The Lara and Floyd fights suggest that when faced with a jab he can't get past, he just accepts his fate and lets it go to the cards and hopes for a corrupt decision
Something I've consistently been seeing, which is a legit point, is whether or not Canelo can take Golovkin's punches. The thing with Triple G tho is that it doesn't matter whether you stay standing. He is very capable of creating cuts with his punches. Even if Canelo doesn't go down, if G ends up creating a cut on Alvarez, who knows what could end up happening.
Canelo needs to do good body work, nobody has had a good body attack on GGG, the body is Canelos best chance of disarming some power but it comes at a risk of getting caught.
Golovkin will set the pace of this fight. I don't think Canelo is going to walk towards Golovkin. Canelo will hang on the ropes and hope to effectively counterpunch Golovkin. That's Canelo's MO. The only difference is he will have Gennady working behind the jab with a pounding at a level that Canelo hasn't experienced from his other opponents. The big question is will Canelo be able to take it and go the distance. If he can he has a shot at a decision. If not well we all know the rest.
Candelita looking like the hulk right about now. Pretty much any pace will be too much for the diva, she'll be tired in 4 or 5 rds. GGG will break her down with that jab then start beating the body to a pulp. TKO/KO for GGG in rds 5-8.
