No way to predict but can be prevented with coumadin/warfarin if leg swelling occurs long before the stage the clot travels up the leg. DVT sure as hell is deadly. I'm on Coumadin for life from DVT.
True. In this young girl she may not have had any warning at all. I've had young healthy female patients on oral contraceptives develop a DVT and subsequent embolism. Those can be tragic if not recognized in time.
The article said cause of death was a pulmonary embolism leading to the cardiac arrest. Unlikely a cardiac screening would have picked that up. She might have had a leg injury at one point causing a deep vein thrombosis which lead to the Pulmonary embolism. No way to predict or prevent that sort of thing especially in an otherwise healthy young individual. Very sad and unfortunate loss.
Makes the death even more tragic.

So sad for a young girl with great potential Unfortunately they do no forms of heart or cardiac testing during training only when if they're within certain organizations 7:10 and 30-day monitoring in preparations for a title bout...
Its about time they tested for at least some of these things, like cardiomyopathy and wpw.If football can do it, boxing can.
Are you taking any blood thinners for the Afib? In this young girl deep vein thrombosis (DVT) leading to a pulmonary embolism is more likely. Women taking oral contraceptives are more prone to DVT as well. Guess we probably won't get all the facts. A sad thing for sure.
Nah, mine turned out to be SVT, which is horrible (230bpm heart rate) but regular, so doesn't risk clots like Afib. When I was learning about it I was surprised how many athletes have Afib and walk around in it unknowingly. Yeah, come to think of it your right about oral contraceptives, that's a risk rarely talked about these days. It is truly a tragedy whatever the cause.
Sometimes it comes from Atrial Fibrillation. I stopped boxing due to an arrhythmia, they can be found with a stress test. I think Ovil Mckenzie had this too.

Bloody hell.May she rest in peace.Training her arse off to go and fight in what would of been an empty arena with only a few unappreciative fans watching, ungrateful motherfvckers.
Some of the fans of the sport nowadays proper plss me off.No respect whatsoever
Very sad. Do they do cardiac screening in boxing yet. I know football does.

R.I.P.. Very beautiful lady. I pray for her family. Hate reading stuff like this. People don't understand what Boxers put their body through just to make weight and perform at a high level. If they did they'd have more respect for the sport.
