Im talking about whats the most impressive win any fighter has had. A fight where someone was the underdog and beat a huge favorite or just flat out an impressive win.
SRL vs hagler is a good one because SRL was retired for a while and hagler was viewed as a monster who is bigger than him. Then theres fights like ali vs liston or foreman where he did what no one thought he could. What is the most impressive victory in history?
Off the top of my head some big ones.
Lamotta over. Robinson
Duran over. Leonard.
SRL over. Duran
SRL over. Hearns
SRL over. Hagler
Ali over. Liston
Ali over. Foreman
Frazier over. Ali
Douglas over. Tyson
Schmeling over. Louis
Louis over Schmeling
Dempsey over. Willard
Sanchez over. Gomez
Chavez over. Taylor
Tarver over. Jones
Marquez over. Pacquiao
Pacquiao over. Barrera
Dont really view that as a great win, thats when tyson started declining and parting/doing coke before fights. He wasnt the monster tyson anymore.
:lol1:
Tyson was still considered a monster at the time.
Hell, they didnt even blame the partying. They blamed Robin Givens
But IMO it was not the biggest win of all time. Just biggest upset.
my favorit fight is ali vs liston 1 but i have to go with douglas vs tyson. everyone thought this is just going be another ez KO for tyson but douglas showed a lot of heart and beat him.
I was thinking Douglas vs Tyson too. What about Jake La Motta over SRR?
Sandy Saddler over Willie Pep?
Lennox over Klit is up there for me too. Vitali is an absolute beast. For Lennox Lewis to do what he did in his LAST ever fight was insanity.
Yeah, but made him quit the next time, don't you think that takes away from that first win?
Not really, he still beat him the first time. Plus duran got overweight after the first fight and barely got down in weight for the rematch.
Was gonna list duran over leonard as well, he went in and beat the golden boy and roughed him up.
Yeah, but made him quit the next time, don't you think that takes away from that first win?
I agree that it's probably Ali vs Foreman. People were actually worried about Ali's health going into that one, and it was extremely impressive. Duran/Leonard was a great win too, but rightly or wrongly it's overshadowed by Duran quitting in the rematch. Leonard/Hagler is up there too but that's very debatable as a lot of people (including myself) still think Marvin should have won to this day.
Randy Turpin beating Sugar Ray Robinson when he was 128-1 is up there as well. As is Salvador Sanchez knocking out Wilfredo "Bazooka" Gomez who was 32-0-0 with 32 knockouts at the time. Pernell Whitaker outboxing JC Chavez the way he did was very impressive too even though they robbed him and called it a draw.
Have you watched when we were kings
They were going on like it was Ali's death penalty
This is the biggest upset in a big fight I'm aware of. Douglas was like a 42-1 dog at the sportsbooks that even offered lines for the fight. Douglas wasn't even considered a serious contender to most boxing fans & hadn't much of a history to get excited about that most would think he'd be capable of this sorta greatness.
How encouraging to see someone on these forums who actually know their boxing history and thus have a boxing IQ.
My friend Douglas was a 31 to 1 underdog if that is not a great win than the sky isn't blue after all.
Thats not what i meant, i know he was a massive underdog. But nobody knew until years after how bad tyson really was at that point. Thats when tysons out of control actics started and he was out partying and doing coke the night before the fight.
He even got dropped in sparring before the fight. He wasnt the same anymore. Its just a huge upset not really a super great win to me.
Long before my time but i agree with Duran beating Leonard and Ali beating Foreman and Liston, but i'm only basing that on what i've seen and read.
The Ali ones are the first that spring to mind though because there's a lot of footage out there that we have all seen many times of people giving him no chance before the fight.
Alis own corner thought he was going in to be executed during the walkouts lol

In recent years, Joshua VS Klitschko.
Of all time, probably Ali VS Foreman.
Ali Vs Foreman
Very inspiring
