Let's say Floyd absolutely puts a beating on McGregor or knocks him out in a way that makes uncomfortable viewing, can you see there being some serious questions asked to the NSAC about how they have allowed a novice fighter get in with an elite boxer?
It wouldnt be sanctioned under normal circumstances but they have let money talk of course.
McGregor will feel his hands getting tired just in the 5th round.
Especially when he fails to land his shots. He'll probably think of kicking Mayweahter's face out of frustration. He'll start cursing on the imposed limitations. Sparring sessions are vastly different from real fights.
This is no laughing matter.
Just look at the recent Indongo vs Crawford.
Both are real boxers.
Not easy to hit a more skillful fighter.
Indongo lasted 3 rounds.
The same NSAC approved 25-3 Ramirez against 0-0 Lomachenko. Should that fight have been sanctioned given the records?
NSAc had no choice given the amount of money this thing looks to be generating.
Your really not going to try and compare lomachenkos skills to Connors are you, lomachenko won 2 gold medals and 2 world championships in BOXING, tell me what Connors honours in boxing are you idiot, since when has the commission been in place to sanction big money fights, their job is supposedly to keep sports like these as safe as possible
Didn't Joey Gamache sue a commission over the Arturo Gatti fight where he got effed up? I'm thinking he sued or tried to sue someone.
yes, but that was a weight related issue. Joey felt the commission didn't protect him, which , given the circumstances at the weigh in, is fair.

Yea if Conor gets hurt in this fight or worse case dies or something completely effed up happens boxing & the NSAC got some serous questions to answer. I'm surprised they haven't taken that into account more with some of these decisions they've made.
Something bad in this fight could drastically alter some rules & requirements of boxings & officials.
i'm sure there was an off the record converstaion, maybe even inclyuding or going indirectlyt to all parties, about the risk of sanctioning the fight, and the need for things to go smoothly. mcgregor's people should be, and probbly will be quick to throw the towel. floyd's not really an ass kicker anyway, so there's not a tonto worry about.
if connor eats big shots and finds a second wind and startts to wander around eating punishment he may be seriously hurt. but that's not all that likely. i don't think he has the survival skills to go 12 if he's getting beat up.
i actually wouldn't be surprised if he goes 12 and the fight simply resembles a sparring session.
NSAC didn't take the decision to sanction this fight lightly doe.
They studied video footage of Conor doing ok in stand-up exchanges with Nate Diaz, and Diaz spars with boxers, including Andre Ward. If it hadn't been for that, there's no way NSAC would have sanctioned it. :lol1:
:rofl::rofl::rofl:
Suspect?!?!? Suspect for being straight up about the situation?
When guys get hurt yea people question the commission. The NYSAC got a sh^t storm over that Magomed fight. And that was a evenly matched fight between two prospects.
This is a guy who's 49-0 vs a guy without a professional fight. This shouldn't be a sanctioned fight if we are all being honest & thats the truth regardless if anyone is trying to play an angle.
People keep saying if this happens or that happens then boxing looks bad & blah blah blah. And I disagree. If Floyd loses, then we got a new player in boxing who's not gonna be done with boxing. If what we expect happens happens, but not only does Conor lose, but he gets severely injured or dies than boxing has a huge sh^t storm for sanctioning a fight we all know shouldn't of been sanctioned. It'll bring people saying how dangerous boxing is & how it should be illegal & it'll bring a ton of negative press on boxing & this great year boxing has had will get turned to sh^t.
I agree, this is an absolute disgrace of a fight. How can they sanction this?
McGregor could be seriously injured.
Same thing with Hearn for Brook vs GGG, so you'd think the Nicky Blackwell incident would've bothered Matchroom mgmt in not wanting their Welter against a 160 beast..and Hearn had John Ryder on the sidelines.
People are hypocrites. Why in the last week are people bringing up this subject now ffs. In the last 2 months we went from Jokes, to loving the press conference, ,to hopeful massacre by McGregor, to now worrying about the NSAC...
People would not have said shït if Floyd stepped into the Octagon...
Again... "I run boxing." Maybe the USA can do a 20/20 Or 60minutes interview with Conor wearing a neck brace while they pose the question in front of millions of viewers, "Conor, you consider yourself a top combat athlete as shown, what do you mean by 'I run Boxing?"
Eff P is at least genuine with his concern. So many others are so phony.
I get it if you hate this event. I get it if you criticize it. However, if you supported Canelo/Kahn, garcia/Salka, GGG/brook or any fight that Gabe Rosado has participated in the last 3 years but now you are bringing up health and safety issues then IMO you are full of crap.
Well yea I'm not saying there aren't a bunch of influences, but you know Floyd will get thrown to the wolves with his rep of getting away with things with the NSAC. And if there is any smoke with any one thing that'll be a big part of the story.
It doesn't matter if you are helpless or not. People get severely hurt & killed from time to time in this sport. I'd have never picked McClellan or Magomed to become what they are now as both were strong, destructive guys themselves previous to their injuries in the ring. I'd even argue what could help get guys severely injured is there toughness & unwillingness to quit despite things their bodies are telling them well before the severe injury perhaps.
What leads to it can be debatable often times & maybe the real answer is never really known, but just like corners, doctors, refs or even the fighter themselves get blamed in this case the judgement will be clear on who's the guilty party since we got the best fighter of this era fighting a guy who's never had a professional boxing match.
Agree on injuries. My point is that NSAC has always sanctioned matches like Canelo v Kahn, in both MMA and boxing, where the likelihood of a brutal beatdown is significantly greater than it is with Floyd/Conor but most posters didn't say the same thing.
The thing is-lets be real-is posters only bring up this in certain situations. They killed Garcia v Salka, but said nothing with Canelo/Khan or GGG/Brook etc, etc. Their real issue is something else completely.
I understand your point but I disagree.
Good luck with that when Conor is dead or brain dead. The negative media will alter how the NSAC works moving forward & will negatively effect boxing & maybe combat sports in general.
For sure that Benton guy will be forced to step down. And probably a couple others to with some of the things said that could be taken wrongly during the 8oz gloves assessment.
Good lord, Conor is not gonna end up dead or brain dead. It is f'n stupid to even think that has a realistic chance of happening.
Well like I said I understand the follow the money logic & I'm with you, but there clearly is a line. I just made an easy line to draw. I imagine the line is much closer to what we are seeing & not Joshua vs Trump.
Thats probably true, but that doesn't mean there isn't a legit topic here beyond the TS likely bias against the fight.
Couldn't disagree more with you here. Thinking about money is all good til someone gets hurt. If Conor gets severely hurt or killed this is a Real Sports episode talking about the corruption of the NSAC + Floyd's influence with them that likely helped led to some of these decisions getting made.
Idk if 60 minutes is around still but they'll be doing a story. This is a 30 for 30 story in a couple years. All the papers will be talking about. Everyones Youtube channel will be talking about it. People will be talking about banning boxing & 2017 will end up being a L for boxing in spite of all the good fights this year.
This is a tragedy that could've been prevented if something bad happens this weekend all cuz money influenced the people who are supposed to be concerned about safety.
Floyd's influence?? Due, come on. The people that pressured NSAC were the hotel owners, sportsbooks, and local businesses that stand to make their biggest paydays this week. Yes, Al, Dana, Floyd and Conor and their reps put pressure, but the money is talking.
Conor may be at a disadvantage but he surely isn't helpless. Also, and lets not kid ourselves, the more brutal and violent it is the better for future events.
Vegas just sanctioned Canelo v Kahn, which, if we are being honest, was far more likely to produce a "bad " ending (your words) as this fight despite Khan being a pro.
Suspect?!?!? Suspect for being straight up about the situation?

I think thats more debatable as Loma had a wealth of amateur experience + 2 gold medals. Same sorta situation with Floyd Patterson vs Peter Radamacher back in the day. The RJJ vs MMA guy of a year or so ago would be much much more questionable as I don't believe that guy had any recent amateur boxing experience & was a pretty sh^t MMA fighter at that with a 6-3 record in a bs mma league.
Idk if there is an exact science to it, but I'd suggest anyone without any recent amateur experience probably shouldn't be fighting any top 50, top 100 boxer in his pro debut.
And I can see an argument that suggests anyone whatever their level of amateur success shouldn't have been fighting Floyd Patterson or the guy Loma turned pro against.
Idk about this. I mean thats clearly whats driving the car right now, but its not like they couldn't kill it in its tracks if they had wanted to. I mean if Donald Trump was trying to fight Anthony Joshua I think there'd be solid money to go check that out too, but they'd need a pretty high level of no f#cks given for the safety of NSAC licensed boxers to allow that fight to go down.
Eff P, the extreme example you gave is ludicrous. If this were any MMA v Boxing guy that could make this amount of money, NSAC would sanction it, even though there are some MMA and boxing matches they wouldn't sanction.
The bottom line is some people, I think the TS is one, are really just mad this an event of the magnitude it is. His real beef is this is an event that is bigger than almost every other boxing match that could be made. Instead of just saying that, because it looks petty and childish, he is trying to find a "smart" or "boxing" criticism of this fight.
At some point posters need to accept the fact that just because they dislike something, doesn't mean everyone does or that their own opinion is the majority opinion. It's fine to criticize this but just be honest in your criticism, no matter how small it makes you look.
NSAC will have no blood on their hands if someone gets hurt.
That doesn't matter. If something bad happens people will connect dots that may or may not make sense. Its a bad look & there are bread crumbs leading to a bunch of mfers that favored money over safety with this fight & that'll be problem for the NSAC if something bad happens to Conor (or hell even Floyd with the switch to the 8oz gloves for no real reason like I just brought up).
Doesn't sound like anything the NSAC can't logically counter/answer, though.
Considering the NSAC has turned down fights in the past they deemed mismatches, yes, they will have blood on their hands and she be held accountable. Boxing is not a game, and it is not a sport that should be exploited because of how many zeroes are on the end of a paycheck. But we all know Nevada is corrupt as hell, likely one big reason Floyd won't fight outside of that state.
Sure, some questions would be asked and they wouldl take some heat but it wouldn't change a thing. Mismatches are made in boxing all the time even when the money isn't huge. Conor isn't a pro boxer but he is a rugged pro fighter who has proven he can defend himself and take punishment. I have no problem with them allowing this fight and would have been disappointed if they didn't allow it. I expect it to be a one sided win for Mayweather but I am still very interested to see how the fight actually plays out. Conor has scored enough brutal KOs with his fists in cage fights to be taken seriously. Mayweather is training hard for this fight as usual. Floyd Patterson once defended his world heavyweight title against an amateur champion boxer who had never had a pro fight. Many didn't like it but the fight was allowed and it was no big deal. Patterson was knocked down before he knocked the guy out.
This is so dumb. Conor's health isn't in any more danger than it normally would be just because he's 0-0 in boxing; There's no logical basis to that at all. Besides, Conor wanted the fight.
