I'm curious what criteria NSB contributors use when choosing your favorite fighters, either past or present.
Do you favor offensive-minded fighters, who bring a lot of action to a fight but not much defense, they leave it all in the ring--such as Gatti, Ward, Provodnikov, Berto, etc?
Do you favor slick defensive fighters who take a safety-first approach to boxing and choose to rely more upon reflexes and defense rather than offense? Mayweather, Whitaker, Rigo, Lara?
Do you favor a more well-rounded fighter who displays equal parts offense and defense in their repertoire and tend to have a fan-friendly style such as Duran, M. Spinks, Leonard, De La Hoya, Pac, Loma?
How about behavior/persona in and out of the ring? How much does that influence whether or not you are a fan? Do you like or can you tolerate a trash-talker and villain like Mayweather, Mayorga, Broner, Fury? Or prefer a more humble approach like DLH, Pac, Mosley, Joshua?
What attributes put your favorite fighters at the top of your list? What attributes are deal-breakers?
I judge them off their forms, conventional stance, got to be a boxer-puncher, with respectable punching power. Txtbook clean fighters like Finito lopez, Ray leonard, marquez and Linares.
Its really hard to say. Like others have said they just have to resonate with me or not. i like and dislike all types of fighters.
Some of my favorite aggressive fighters are maidana, morales, tapia, spence, pwill, ggg, kovalev, cotto, porter, froch, jermall, pacquiao, mikey just to name a few.
but i never really liked margarito (even before the hand wraps), mosley, barrera, provodnikov, hatton, rios, khan, gatti, even though theyre all aggressive too.
Same with the more defensive fighters. i like mayweather, hopkins, fury, lomachenko, usyk, ivan calderon, tevin farmer, collazo among others. but not a fan of ward, wlad, rigo, lara, degale, miguel vazquez
Not really sure what is tbh
It just sorta happens like when you see a girl you just know you are gonna f#ck & later that night or a week or two from that moment you are.
^This.
Something about the fighter has to resonate with me, and I'll just like said fighter.
It's pretty simple, really.
I look for the least ethnic looking fighter possible backed by a promoter of the whitest shade of skin color, that's what I look for
LMAO yep, if it's all white, it's all right. Tired of seeing those dark skinned ass holes shucking and jivin all over the place with their dance moves, and hippity hop music.

There really isn't anything for me
I either follow you
Or I don't
I appreciate all styles
I don't really choose at all. It happens over time and all of a sudden you realise who your favourite fighter is. At the moment I prefer GGG because I enjoy his style and I like watching KOs.
I like well rounded, technically sound boxers who are aggressive and looking to land hard punches. I appreciate good technique, combinations, counter punching a lot.
What I hate is most fighters who clinch excessively and in general dirty fighters. Not really into running either. I don't mind movement as long as it's moving and hitting and not for an entire fight. Just here and there.
I like fighters of various styles, but I have a preference towards well rounded boxer punchers who have the skill, but also come to fight. Hagler, Duran, Holyfield are some of my favorite fighters. But I also love fast, explosive fighters like Pac, Jones Jr. and Tyson.
Personality does make me like and sometimes dislike a fighter more, but I never support or hate a fighter strictly based on his personality.
Nationality has little do with my support. I live in America, if I lived in a small third world village, then I would definitely be more supportive of which ever boxer came from my town.
So my priority list for what makes me a fan of a fighter:
1. Fighting style/skills
2. Resume
3. Personality (combination or charisma, class, attitude and willingness to fight anyone falls into this category).
This is how I choose my favorites for the most part as well. I like well-rounded fighters with diverse skill sets, and who lean toward the aggressive side.
Boxing is a spectator sport, and sports are meant to be entertaining.
I like all styles so the differentiating factor becomes a matter of how much a fighter gives back to the fans. This is loosely related to the fighter's personality and the way he views the sport.
Always been drawn towards either super dynamic offensive fighters with very good defense, or super slick fighters that actually make defense super entertaining, and have a fighter's spirit.
Offensive guys: Tyson, Pac, Duran, Cotto, so many more.
Defensive guys: Pernell, Anselmo Moreno, Gamboa, RJJ, Toney, Winky Wright, etc. Was a big time Floyd fan til his first retirement, became a one punch at a time, not as entertaining fighter, plus just stopped liking the dude for whatever reason.
Then there's guys in between that I love watching also. I have like 20 favorite fighters.
I like an offensively-minded, defensive fighter. I.E. a fighter who can slip and block punches then make the opponent pay. Prime Tyson could get out of the way of an attack with ducks, torso & foot movement, then knock a mofo's head off.
I like Olympians the most, I think because I like speed. I am of course partial to American Olympians and if they are Mexican American they catch my eye moreso because they usually have something to relate too. I also have always like the featherweight divisions (122-130lbs) I think because at that weight they are typically fast handed. But guys like Gamboa, Gary Russel Jr., & Amir Khan, are always must watch fighters for me even though I dont care for 2 of the 3 because their fast.
I also really enjoy a boxer with a great Jab, ie. Miguel Cotto...
