Floyd is one of the most boring fighters to ever live. But in fairness, he's also one of the "best" (i.e. most difficult to beat, or even hit) fighters to ever live as well. So relative to the five weight classes (Super Featherweight, Lightweight, Light Welterweight, Welterweight, Junior Middleweight) that Floyd has competed in, what boxer in history do you feel would have had the best chance of defeating him?
My vote is "Sugar" Ray Leonard, and, of course, a prime Manny Pacquiao.
at 147 there's almost no way he beats leonard, hearns, or robinson. they pick up where he leaves off with stellar power, especially hearns and robinson. leonard and robinson also had all time chins, and hearn's wasn't bad and he'd be tough to damage with his chin being so high off of the ground against a guy who is really about 5'8" at best.
at 154 he'd lose to those three as well, but i'd also add mike mccallum, another significantly bigger guy with good boxing skills, a sturdy chin, and very good power.
at 135 i still think he loses to duran. duran could do it all, and would be able to come forward and pressure if / when he had to. duran had a chin and power that carried all the way to middleweight, and he was very slick. i don't think he'd knock floyd out, but i see him winning on points.
at 130 floyd probably doesn't lose to anybody. it's really not a deep division historically, it's more of a migratory one where guys eventually settle at 135, or if they're 130 lbers in youth they'll even end up at WW.

Castillo and he already did unofficially.
I was a fan of Williams for a while but he was one-dimensional and there's no way he ever would've beat Floyd. He was basically an AB fighter while Floyd is ABCDEF he can do everything. Yeah Paul threw a lot of punches, but he wouldn't have landed anything and would've been getting countered like crazy (See Lara fight)
I disagree. Marquez handled Pacquiao in his "prime" and while JMM is great and a legend there's no doubt Floyd is steps ahead of him. He's a bigger, stronger JMM.
The first Castillo fight was very close because Floyd was injured, once he was healthy it was an easy fight for him (Castillo won 3, maybe 4 rounds. Same thing with Maidana, Floyd had a lot of personal problems leading up to the first fight, in the 2nd fight it was easy work for him. That's 2 close fights in his ENTIRE CAREER.
I love Chavez but you saw what Whitaker did to him. Don't get me wrong a prime JCC gives him a rough night but Floyd is too complete and too smart/skilled.
2004, 2008 and 2011 Pacquiao all lost or struggled mightily with Marquez. There's no year where he would've beaten Floyd. In 2009-2011 it would've been a harder fight than it ended up being, but at the end of the day he's just too way predictable. Floyd's too smart, clever for him.
Margarito was a bum without loaded gloves. Daniel Santos beat him (who?) and Mosley almost killed him so LOL at you even putting him in the same sentence as Money Mayweather. Like I stated before, Castillo gave him a close fight because he was injured. Once Floyd was 100% it was an easy, or at least straightforward win for him. Williams was one dimensional, he would've been a problem just because of his length but you saw the Lara fight, it would've been just like that but he would have been landing EVEN LESS and Floyd wouldn't have backed off and let it be close like that. He either would've easily won a decision or caught him like Martinez did. He always destroyed guys with no defense.
Khan? LOL. Are you kidding me or what? So he gets KO'd by Prescott, Peterson (remember him?), Garcia and Canelo but he could beat Floyd? Canelo lost 11/12 rounds to Floyd and he put Khan in the hospital. Bumgarito could've had loaded gloves, he still wouldn't have landed s"it. :lol1: He was hella overrated.
Well said but don't waste your time educating the haters and trolls.
There will be another "xyz couldve beaten Floyd" thread made by tomorrow by the exact same posters with the exact same illogical reasoning as to why Khan/Williams ect would beat Floyd.

I personally classify Pacquiao's prime from DLH-Margarito. He looked his best in that stretch. I think the Margarito fight took a lot out of him, he was fighting at a weight he had no business fighting at vs a HUGE Margarito (albeit one past his best).
Pacquaio despite winning fights after NEVER looked the same. Never threw the amount of punches that he threw in that stretch ever again. His style is SO reliant on being supremely fit and fast, it's not made for someone in their mid to late 30's. The fact that he's remained relevant for as long as he has is a feat in itself.
I think it would always be a tough fight for both of them but I think Pac had a legit shot at being Floyd in that stretch....and vice versa. He just didn't force the issue enough in their fight. Every time he did, Floyd wasn't comfortable with that and clinched or got out of there and Pac didn't continue pressing like he used to. Floyd slipped too but he far more technically sound and reliant on his defense more than his physicality.
I'm gonna sound like a retard and a dumb casual but Lamont Peterson. He has some crazy good inside fighting, something Floyd avoids completely. He could have done what maidana done in the first fight but better with also less power cos he isn't a big hitter.
Maybe Amir Kahn cos of his raw speed and crazy good footwork but He's questionable.
Gimmie yo thoughts tho.
Both would get KOed.

from this era, everyone he was accused of avoiding when he admittedly went on vacation....after hatton, floyd was looking at a good murderers row of fearsome guys and he knew it...
Thomas Hitman Hearns at 147. I just can't see how Floyd could beat him. He would be Floyd's kryptonite
Floyds 5'7 Hearns was 6'1...
Floyds reach is 72" Hearns 78"
Floyds never weighed more than 150-155 pounds fight night, Hearns fought at light heavyweight...2 world class boxers, one with a 6 inch reach & height advantage and weighs considerably more... Floyds that great that's how far you have to reach to say he'd lose. To a fighter who is naturally 3 weight divisions bigger then him. Pound for pound, inch for inch Floyd is litterally the greatest boxer.
Khan would have out pointed floyd simply due to styles. It doesn't mean Khan is better than Floyd.
Khan can't outbox Floyd. He doesn't have the ring IQ.
The ones I would suggest are...
Sugar Ray Robinson - The length would've been hard to overcome
Thomas Hearns - I think Floyd could've won, but it would've been tough
Sugar Ray Leonard - I like Floyd in this fight but I have to admit Ray was bigger/taller and could box very well and fight inside very well just like Floyd.
Marvin Hagler - Floyd never fought at MW but if he did this would've been what I wanted to see. Hagler was a monster who would come at you with pure ferocity and could box very well too. Certainly the Hagler that fought Hearns and the fights up to that point would've been extremely hard for anyone in boxing history to beat.
I think he beats the likes of Duran and Chavez but they would gave him close fights in their primes. As for Whitaker that's a close fight too but Floyd actually trained him with when he was coming up and was a better defensive fighter and just overall a more complete boxer. Mayweather just has more to his game.
I always thought Paul Williams would have beaten him. It's a shame we can't have time machines and change Floyd to a pure middleweight. I would have loved to have seen Carlos Monzon take his head off.

I'll bet a 2008-2009 manny pacman would have given him a hard time

uhmmm, Castillo already defeated him :lol1:
And Maidana
Who ELSE could have defeated him? There's a lot. Prime Chavez for one would have gave him that work, would have looked like the Meldrick Taylor fight......

Pacquiao, Margarito, Castillo, Williams
I don't like to compare different eras to eachother. Too much changes in sports. A guy from 1980 & guy fighting now are not comparable in my opinion

In this era alone possibly Khan, Williams and (a loaded gloves) Margarito which is why Floyd apparently avoided them all.
