ANTHONY Joshua is one of the biggest names in world boxing, without a doubt. The British heavyweight emerged victorious in one of the fights of the decade against Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley Stadium in April. In doing so, he took home the WBA, IBO belts to go with his IBF title, announcing his arrival among the sport's elite despite having just 19 professional fights. Click Here To Read More]
Tyson was an all time great, but Lennox Lewis made him look like a little boy. Now that was a "battering".
Joshua is very good and still improving. It would have been a fascinating match up, but we will never know.
You guys are delusional, we saw Joshua get outboxed by klitschko in his last fight Can you imagine what Tyson would do tall guys with average skill were Tysons *****es tyson would get in close Work and stop Joshua All Joshua could do is hope to land something big Man Joshua would be super slow for Tyson Foreman would phukk Joshua up too ya Joshua's huge weight wise and pretty tall but cmon ppl he's not a very good boxer
He doesn't throw punches and gasses after 1-2 combinations lmao!
True that he gassess a bit, but he's also 6'6", 250 lbs (very little fat) with enough power to hurt Tyson with either hand, athletic, plus he has heart and mental fortitude... I think he has shot :boxing:
To many casuals have a higher opinion of Mike Tyson than the well informed boxing fan : I would rate a win for Tyson over A.J equal to Mikes assault of Mitch Green.
Anthony Joshua is no Frank Bruno, unlike Joshua Frankie Bruno was never scared of facing the best..for instance Frankie Bruno dared to challenge the primed great American champion Oliver McCall ( who just beat Lennox Lewis and Larry Holmes) to capture the most coveted title in all of sports now in the possession of the REAL HW champion of the world the 'Bronze-Bomber' Deontay Wilder.
What a pathetic post
I guess you can say Deontay Wilder is going to go down as a legend if a 'Prime' Mike Tyson gets such praise for beating the likes of Tony Tucker and a washed up Larry Holmes. Pathetic if you ask me, in a objective observation Mike Tyson was a overachiever and hes fortunate of being born in such a weak era.
Tucker had beaten that James Douglas that you glorified a few posts ago for beating the shit out of Tyson.
Larry Holmes was never knocked out, not even in his middle-age career finale... except for the brutal beating he took from Iron Mike.
Having said that, a champion cannot do much more than being the best of his era. Tyson 1986-1988 would have stood a chance with anyone anytime, IMO.
AJ humble as usual... He could say I could outbox or KO Mike cause I am 6'6 & 250 lbs true heavyweight, but he didn't.
as he is now AJ, tailor made
for a prime kid dynamite, wouldnt last but a coupla rounds against pre-douglas tyson. AJs boxin skills (zero compared to mikes) and size offer him no advantage whatsoever against tysons style.
Joshua is a smart, realistic human beeing. And he knows what to say for people to like him.
Hes the complete opposite of Tyson Fury. Well i dont think Fury is dumb at all but he has the complete opposite mindset and likes to provoke and play the "Me against the World" Guy.
He would have said something like: "Tyson would have no chance against me, the midget would never touch me and is to one-dimensionaland would quit because he hes just a bully" Well actually i think he said something like that already.
I believe he's just being respectful. He's so much bigger than Tyson, has the gold medal pedigree and his power is on another level from probably anyone Tyson ever fought other than maybe Lennox, and I believe he has a lot more power than Lewis.
Yup - Tyson was at his best between the ages of 20 and 22 !
At a time when most boxers are still learning the basics, he was dominating the WH division.
When Joshua or anyone else talks about Tyson as a force, they are basically talking about the 1986-1988 Tyson.
Thats my point, if he had stayed on track and peaked at 32 (say), just how good would he have been ??
As for having the money to pay hookers at age 20 - maybe add up all the money you spent on alcohol before that age (while he was training and not drinking), and figure out if that would be enough to pay for a skank or two that would give you STDs.

I mere typographical error on my part my friend. So you are saving Mike Tyson was in his prime when he was a teenager? and how did he afford to pay prostitutes at such a young age to contract a sexually-transmitted disease?! my gawd my opinion on this reprobate has sunken even lower -- which I never thought possible. :pat:

Had Cus lived longer Tyson would have got better with age he was a kid can you imagine if he has Cus there till he was say 28
He was the lion tamer he created a beast but soon as he was gone Tyson just became a savage with no control in and out the ring
Can't answer that question till AJ is at the end of his career. He's tall, strong, having power, with a longer reach and has gotten off the floor a la Douglas.Too early to judge would a peak Tyson have beaten a peak Joshua.Let's see how the chips fall.
Some history for you.
Tyson lifted the WBC belt in 1986 beating Berbick, going on to undisputed a little later.
It is well documented that he was already on a downward destructive path even then in 1986, having gonorrhea in that fight.
He beat Spinks in 1988 to be the 'one and only' (as the fight was billed), and that was his last fight with Rooney as trainer. So at age 22/23, Tyson was already well on the downward spiral despite his defeat of Spinks (I vaguely remember Tyson explaining his excess sweating in the Spinks fight being due to syphilis, but might have been a different fight).
Rooney observed that after Spinks '...he stopped moving his head and started grabbing and hugging......' going on to identify this as a weakness he had in the amateurs that had been trained out of him. Tyson's development was basically going backwards at a rapid pace by 1988.
In 1990 vs Douglas, Tyson was overweight, under-trained, and subjecting himself to a whole dictionary of destructive habits.
If it wasn't Douglas, it would have been someone else shortly after, but by then Tyson was well and truly off the rails.
The question hangs 'what was the point of no return ?'. Probably 1988 when he parted ways with Rooney and there remained no-one to keep him on track.
Douglas beat a shell of the 1986-1988 Tyson, and the tragedy remains of just how good Tyson could have been if he fully dedicated himself to boxing between 1986-1998, when he would have hit that age 32 hypothetical peak.

In 1987 Mike Tyson became champion, in 1990 Buster Douglas knocked him the f*ck out - some run from this juggernaut.

Gracious of Joshua to say this, but perhaps he's being falsely modest. Even at his best, Tyson struggled against bigger heavyweights who could move - not just Buster Douglas, but, earlier, he was was given a competitive fight by Tony Tucker, who is nowhere near Joshua's quality, and a close run by James 'Quick' Tillis - and perhaps this is going too far back, but from most accounts Lennox Lewis got the better of him in their week of sparring in 1984. Joshua is not a bad mover and with his power, strength he would have had a chance against Tyson.
Now all you filthy gurnboats are starting to fall in line with my thinking that joshua is a class act....18 months behind me you all are...but welcome to Lord Plungers Club ...invite only
Anthony Joshua is a overrated convicted drug dealer this is the reason why these writers pair him with Mike Tyson - a convicted rapist.
Whoaa. I'm not a casual fan. Tyson was a prodigious talent that we never got to see fully develop. By age 20 he was already a world champion, and had the speed, movement, power and aggression that few hw boxers in history would be able to withstand - and that before the age of 23.
Then he self-destructed and we never saw him peak. What age would that peak have been if he had stayed on track ? 32 ish? So not just being a world champion 10 years before his hypothetical peak, but being so with a dominance we have rarely seen historically.
Not seeing Tyson stay on track and see his talent blossom to the full extent of his potential is one of the greatest sporting tragedies of our age.
Overrated Tyson was not.
