Obviously, the resumé isn't there yet but the skills are comparable. The counterpunching skills are on point and he is a good attacker when he needs to be the aggressor. That straight right is lethal and you can say the same about his left hook. He also knows when to use body shots. I would've loved to see him get trained by Nacho to improve his feints. But he has the qualities of a great boxer puncher.
Mikey's already shown mental frailty and although JMM is a ***** when it comes to his attitude, he has no yellow in him when it comes to fighting.
In terms of skill, JMM was a lot more fluid with his punching whereas Mikey is like a robot. In terms of physical gifts, JMM was quicker with both hands and feet while mIkey punches harder.
Having said all that, the two of very different styles so why the comparison?
Broner is an easy fight for Mickey on paper. But is it?
I get that Broner doesn't move much and can be immovable like a rock.
And he strikes only after the opponent stopped throwing.
Mickey himself is a defensive fighter and good at countering.
But what is there to counter when Broner is not throwing any?
Mickey is going to have to be aggressive to break the impasse.
I know it's a 12 round fight. Lots of things can happen.
It can be a see-saw battle where both can be chasing or getting chased.
JMM is really overrated and people naturally tend to pick him in polls, just because he's JMM. I do think these two are comparable through. Marquez does a couple things exceedingly well, but Garcia does many things and great and has more modes than Quez.
At this moment definitely not, Mikey has only shown superior skills against mediocre opposition.
JMM has shown superior technical skills against hall of famers and all time greats (Barrera, Pacquiao and others)
We saw Marquez vs prime Pacquiao, Barrera, Salido (he had an easier time with a prime Salido), John, Casamayor when he was lineal champ, prime undefeated Diaz, Bradley.
I know you're alluding to ignoring resumes but it's hard when in comparison Mikey has: Salido, Martinez, Lopez, Zlaticanin, Burgos, Rojas...he's really lacking. Anyone with good skills like Mikey will shine so much better against lesser fighters.
If we see Mikey vs guys like Crawford, Easter, Lomachenko, Postol, Barthelemey, this would tell us more about his skills. Yeah they're obviously good, but are they consistently good at the top level?
What you said made a lot of sense..Only time will tell us,mikey is young, the only thing it kinda bothers me,but that could be just me,I feel mikey thinks he should be in canastota right now.
His fight with Broner should show if he has the potential to be as good as Marquez or not.He should return to 135 unless making 135 is hard for him. He originally said he will return to 135 after he fights Broner. That would be smart. A boxer who fights at his ideal fighting weight has the best chance for success. Fighting at a weight that is too heavy is a good way for an excellent fighter to get beat.
Broner is the kind of guy that would give marquez fits.

This a serious question? Lol
NO.. garcia is nowhere near Marquez
He isnt even in Juan Estrada's league in terms if skills.
There are many active fighters who are much more skilled than Garcia.

... I don't think Mikey will go to Nacho... it's about "family"... :)
