To be honest even though I wss cheering for Kov, we were getting a beautiful boxing match yesterday, with rounds going both ways, I do believe Kov had it in him to come back.
The punch in the jaw was good, and did have an impact, but saying he was done is beyond hypocritical. we witnessed a lot of great come backs, and most recent was Klit vs Joshua.
The ref should have had the balls to let it go on, by giving Kov time to recover from a low blow.
Lets call black a black and white a white, regardless of who you we rooting for.
This fight could have been a classic(who ever would have won) if it not for illegitimate stoppage.
Kovalev did it to himself by pushing the pace unnecessarily from round 1. Ward is not a fast starter and doesn't press...kovalev could have fought behind his jab and won rounds. I don't think he had it in him to come back cuz he was already gassing in round 5 and didn't make any adjustment or take a round off to recover. All this talk of newer better nutrition/training techniques, and we have world class fighters who can't fight for 6 rounds smh. It's almost an insult to the guys who used to go to war for 15 rounds.
Agreed. After a little too much clinching in rounds one and two and before the low blows started to rain in, the fight was shaping up to be a real treat and much more engaging than the first bout. The two of them are very evenly matched when both of their gas tanks are full
