Ward and Kovalev.
There already was very little buzz to begin with about their rematch this Saturday, and now with the announcement of the Floyd-Connor sh*t show, NOBODY will be talking about Ward-Kov.....
IMO Floyd. He's tarnishing his legacy for money that he doesn't need.
He doesn't NEED it, but he's not a billionaire either. $100m even with what he already has is still a hell of a lot of money to him, it's still making a decent % of his entire net worth in one night.
The biggest loser in this is going to be the McGregor/MMA fans who actually think he has a snowball's chance in hell at winning, or even being competitive. Kov/Ward is for boxing fans, not casuals. GGG/Canelo shouldn't be affected because the fans who would purchase that fight are not the same fans who would purchase the Floyd/McGregor fight.
I don't think it will affect Ward v Kovalev. That fight isn't really one for the casual market. People who are interested in it won't be missing it.
It will affect Canelo v GGG. That would have attracted a pretty decent casual market, many of whom will probably watch Floyd v McGregor now and not want to buy 2 PPV's so close together.
Roc Nation been losing lol. Roc Nation sticking around in boxing at this point is simply an equation about how much disposable income Jay Z has vs his ability to deal with a business thats been ran horribly.
Roc nation is wasting its money on non money fights.
In reality boxing can be bigger than any sport.
With all the money they got, makes one wonder why they can't do it.
I think they should start working with people like Schaefer or some UFC people.
UFC has the fight pass which is a little different in the sense the revenue is not based on one night. Paying 7.99 every month for 6 months. is not the same as paying 100 one month and then paying 75 the next month. The justification is off.
fight pass doesn't cover PPVS bro
UFC is also taking a hit because all its fighters are gonna see how much money Conor is about to make and will now start to ask questions... Dana gonna have to pay Mighty Mouse now.
I'd argue its GBP, Canelo & GGG. They just got their sell to casuals time reduced to 3 weeks or less & maybe more importantly after they just spent $100+ on a PPV that they will sh^t talk for years to come if it goes like I suspect it'll go. They lost millions of dollars of upside outright & potentially endorsements & sponsors.
No one cared about Ward vs Kovalev 2 days ago & no one cares about Ward vs Kovalev today. Very little changed for them lol. Hopefully the Ward side is bringing emails or recorded phone conversations to play at the final presser to make the last presser like the episode of a reality show between Kovalev & JDJ cuz that'll be the only thing that gets them above whatever the first fight did on PPV & even thats debatable with how poorly this promotion has been ran. And that gots zero to do with Floyd vs Conor.
I agree brother. It a shame that a rematch between two great fighters like Ward and Kovalev isn't getting more attention, but as hardcore fans, we expected that and we already accept that it's just the way it is.
GGG vs. Canelo on the other hand has a lot of buzz going and it definitely has the interest of the casuals. The fight will more than likely be exciting. Unfortunately the casuals will be so annoyed at spending $100 for another one sided uneventful Mayweather schooling, they might be too cynical to watch and pay for a real boxing match between two real fighters like Canelo and GGG.
On a side note, it's another W for Floyd and another L for De La Hoya.
There's no doubt in my mind that Floyd picked this date to mess with the GGG vs Canelo numbers. People might not be able to afford 2 PPVs so close together and will not be able to resist the circus that Floyd vs McGregor brings.
I was thinking Ward/Kovalev would do a little better than last time, not much, around 200K. Same people that watched last time plus a little more, wasn't expecting it to be massive numbers
Casuals don't know the difference though between GBP, TMT, TR, PBC, blah blah blah. To them it's all "boxing". If MayMac delivers at all it could actually BOOST CaneloGGG as it give boxing in general more momentum heading into the fall schedule.
Did UFC 200 take away PPV buys from UFC 202? No, because UFC was building huge momentum..

It doesn't matter that casuals dont know promotion companies, but promotion companies try to appeal to them, via free events and other fights. The Cotto fight was a perfect avenue to appeal to those that have HBO on a Saturday night stuck doing nothing and watchin boxing, to click in there head damn GGG vs Canelo actually looks good. But now that has shifted to Mayweather vs Conner, so it may or may not have an effect as you do not get the Casuals watching the Cotto fight only the hard core.
Yeah unfortunately the fight is getting overshadowed but even before they announced Mayweather vs McGregor this fight never had the attention of Casuals and the Casuals lets be honest are the ones who really drive up PPV Buys! I wouldn't be shocked if the numbers are worse for this one than the first one!
Neither is all that interesting to the Casual Sports Fan! Also 175 never really been a Division Casuals paid much attention to and likely never will be :dunno: 147-160 and Heavyweight is usually where the Biggest SUPERSTARS in boxing History Fought!
If I trusted the PPV numbers that get released (& Oscar specifically didn't get busted for inflating PPV numbers by 33% for Canelo vs Khan) I'd go all in with my epoints on GGG vs Canelo not hitting the 1.2M mark that seems to be the most popular PPV floor for that fight.
Yeah, no matter what Oscar will be saying it smashed expectations. Glaser's number will have the largest discrepancy yet from the Golden Boy number.
Be funny as hell though after all this it turns out Golovkin has taken a flat fee.
Ward and Kovalev.

Yeah sad but its kinda true imo..
It's golden boy.
They not only have a card on HBO for August featuring Cotto, they have GGG vs Nelo 3 weeks after the Coner fight. Many fans won't buy both.
Maybe Oscar shouldn't keep talking crap about Floyd as he had done in the past
I think the casual boxing fans are the main market for Canelo vs GGG, but they are also a decent sized market in play for Conor vs Floyd. Granted people who've never seen a fight even will be throwing their money at that fight I believe, but they will still be competing with GGG vs Canelo for those casual boxing fans dollars & I think more of them will end up either deciding on the bigger event fight over the more competitive fight or many of them aren't even keeping up with the schedule like us boxing nerds do & will be hearing about GGG vs Canelo AFTER they've dropped a $100+ on a PPV the previous month & will therefore be less inclined to drop another $70 on boxing now or they'll have been disappointed by Floyd vs Conor & will just avoid boxing for awhile maybe.
I just don't see how these dates being close together doesn't impact the smaller one when 3/4 Americans live paycheck to paycheck & most people who buy these big name PPV's aren't loyal to boxing they are loyal to the event + they don't have unlimited funds or the desire to overspend on boxing.

I think MayMac could actually boost CaneloGGG if its exciting. UFC 200 didn't kill UFC 202. Two huge UFC events separated by a month.
Man o Man. Its just crazy the amount of attention ESPN gave this fight yesterday. I was 100% wrong in saying no way the fight happened on the 26th of August. Golden Boy and Roc Nation are the biggest losers of this. Dana White + Conner + Mayweather= 1 hell of a damn promotion.ESPN gave them 1 whole hour of promotion yesterday, I can't remember the last time boxing was covered for 1 hour on ESPN if it ever was. Even when PAC vs Mayweather was announced they gave them like 15mins on the breaking news segment.
Roc Nation may have lost steam with the casuals this weekend because of this announcement, and Golden Boy loses that night because like others have commented the Cotto fight was gonna lay the ground work for GGG vs Canelo for casuals . If GB is smart they try to get the main event for the Cotto fight at least 1 fights before the Mayweather Fight is suppose to happen.

The biggest loser is Golden Boy and Oscar De La Hoya. The fight date is the same as Cotto's, nobody will be talking about Canelo-GGG until the Floyd-McG fight is over, and he's now missed out on two of the biggest fights in boxing history because of a dinner he had with Bob
Was Cotto-Kamegai ever going to be a big fight anyways? Cotto's big fight is supposedly going to be in December..
