If, if, if McGregor beats Mayweather, where would that bout rank in terms of significance, importance, in Boxing history?
If Mayweather wins, then the repercussions would obviously not be all that significant... it's expected that Mayweather wins. But I think the ramifications of a Conor McGregor, an MMA fighter, a Boxing amateur, upsetting the Boxing world would be earth-shattering for the sport. Mayweather being who he is, 49-0, TBE, etc... this might be the most significant bout ever.
And in either case, it might well be one of the biggest, if not the biggest money fight ever.
- MMA fan since 1993, here (only a casual Boxing fan).

The Nevada handle figures to intensify and possibly double boxing's record of $50 million from 2015 between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. The constant flow of McGregor money will keep coming this week, but Mayweather backers have been patiently waiting for an optimal strike price.
"Sharps are waiting to hit the Mayweather line when it bottoms out," professional bettor and Yale economics major Rufus Peabody said. "There will be a lot of big-money bets on Mayweather. The question is how much of that will offset the public bets on McGregor."
Borrowing these posts from the main Mayweather-McGregor thread:
The best boxer of his era losing to an MMA fighter would be a disaster for boxing. It can't be seen any other way.
Ditto and times 2. It would be a disaster for boxing and a great victory for MMA if Conor who has never boxed can beat the great Mayweather under boxing rules. Toney already embarrassed boxing with his pathetic loss to the MMA fighter under their rules. A Mayweather loss under boxing rules would be far worse. As a boxing lover 1st and an MMA lover 2nd I pray Mayweather doesn't lose. I am confident he will toy with Conor and knock him out.
...
If Floyd loses this might really kill boxing. This has a lot at stake. Like I said before if you are rooting for Conor then you are obviously more of an MMA fan. Either that or you are rooting for him because hes white.
It would be a seismic event for both sports.

Oh, I don't know. Conor might be able to KO Floyd....
Senior.

That would be a major upset!
Stop talking fake-wrestling shtt, and that goes for everyone on here. FFS.
Even if this turns-out to be a complete shut-out, utter dominance by Floyd...
First of all, it would be real.
Secondly, we will have seen a point be proven; An MMArtist can't just step in a ring with a Boxer, with TBE. So that would be a statement itself. It wouldn't be just talk... like it is right now, as we speak (before the fight actually happens).
And truth be told, it's already having an affect on both sports, on sports in general. For MMA, it's a major stamp of credibility. The sport is well on it's way to becoming 'main-stream' but this gives it a boost. More and more people will be peeking over the fence, taking another look into the MMA world.
WTF are you even talking about? MMA is already a mainstream sport, this joke of a fight isn't going to launch it any further. Boxing has already been damaged by the Floyd era of flash before substance. No matter how you try and spin it, this over-hyped exhibition is of no historical or future significance. FWIW, I would say that regardless of which boxer is fighting Conor for a legit win in the record books.
Sorry but this is a glorified exhibition. It will have zero impact on the future of either sport. It is a money grab and after it underwhelms most fans and the general public it will be about as significant as Ali vs. Gorilla Monsoon.

Bro, your denial is glaring.
No Matter What, both sports are changed after this thing... even if Floyd just walks over Conor like he's 'supposed to', even if it's workman-like/boring.

This is and will prove to be the most INSIGNIFICANT fight in boxing history. It will make a lot of money and get a lot of casual interest from general public, but it will not be competitive and if anyone can make a big event boring, it's Mayweather. Get ready for this to go down as the Flop of the Century II, brought to you by Mayweather Promotions.

Regardless of who wins, this fight has ZERO significance where boxing history is concerned.
The Best Ever gets beat by this 'amateur' from MMA... are you fccken kidding me.
This would send shockwaves throughout the sports world, let alone the sport of Boxing.
The Boxing world would be turned on it's head.
It's already a big deal even if Mayweather schools McGregor, like he's expected to. It's already having affects. Boxing can not ignore whats happening anymore, the seismic shift is real (in combat sports).
P.S.
Any Boxing outlet, website, vlogger, who isn't all over this thing (including these press conferences) and the aftermath... will be falling behind.

If McGregor defeated Mayweather it would be considered one of the greatest moments in the history of sport on planet Earth and would elevate McGregor to cartoonish levels of iconic. He'd be side by side with Pele, Michael Jordan, Secretariat and Babe Ruth.
Nobody gives a f*ck about Babe Ruth or that horse outside of USA. Probably Michael Jordan too for that matter.
If you're talking about WORLDWIDE popularity, then McGregor is probably more known than Babe Ruth ever was. Only about 3 countries play baseball.
Pele is an worldwide sporting icon, Muhammad Ali is. Nobody outside of the USA really knows who Babe Ruth is.
Dontae's Boxing Nation -
- Imma go ahead and have to declare this press conference today as the greatest press conference of all time. This was the greatest rap battle of all time.
Man, Mayweather and Conor McGregor, they have CHANGED THE GAME when it comes to promoting a fight. No doubt about it.
Imma tell you something right now, deep down, every Boxer, every promoter that's not part of this event, they're saying 'Damn! Why couldn't we be a part of this!?'
This is some serious History In The Making right here guys.
Yeah but at least James Toney put up a fight doe
No he didn't...he stood there while Couture circled for a few seconds and shot for a single leg take down with success and punched him a few times and then choked him out. The fight lasted about a min and Toney was never in it.
