Im confused.. Not only is he the favorite, hes the growing favorite. People keep betting on Ward making the line higher.
I understand thinking boxers adjust and crack puzzles, but sheesh, i dont see much more what Ward can do to win. Wards my favorite boxer but no way in hell he won 7 rounds, nor 6. I had him winning 5 rounds.
1 thing i dont like is Krusher training less, what if that backfires and he gets tired even sooner, its gonna be a lot of grappling, and rough stuff that may drain him..
Should be a great fight but i might put my emotions aside and bet on Krusher at those good odds +145
did you miss the first fight? kovalev was the superior boxer and the superior puncher. i swear some people love setting up self fulfilling prophecies. they did the same thing in the first fight saying wards the better boxer and kovalev has to ko him and ten when that didnt happened they followed their own pre fight mindset instead of looking at what happened during the fight
When I say Ward is the boxer and Kovalev is the boxer-puncher, I am referring to their fighting styles.. not really their relative skill levels. I'm just stating a pattern to explain the betting odds, not saying Kovalev is definitely going to lose or is a worse boxer or anything like that. In fact, I think they are pretty evenly matched.
It wouldn't shock me if Kovalev won a convincing decision in the rematch. I wouldn't bet on it but it's certainly possible.
they didnt rob kovalev.....thats the problem...you should learn to accept it...3 judges from 3 different vantage points saw the same thing....ward getting up and taking over the flow of the fight...while kovalev faded(and he admitted he knows he faded)......
the comparison i made makes plenty of sense at the level that i made the comparison
if the judges were out to rob kovalev for any nationalistic reason than they could have just as well robbed golovkin....but that didnt happen....there was 0 gain in robbing kovalev.....which they didnt anyway........if you need ill get you a bucket for the tears that will surely collect again on sunday morning
all 3 judges gave the 10th to ward. thats inexcusable. these are the guys you are holding up as your standards for good judging? giving a late dominant kov round to ward is a sign of complete incompetence but more than likely corruption/bias since they knew if they gave 1 more to kovalev he would win so they simply stopped giving him any even though they were clear. im assuming the fanboys did the same and convinced themselves that ward was winning and doing something amazinzg so that they could say empty things like he took over the flow of the fight. too bad he couldnt take over the punches portion of the boxing match. he got the flow though!
These boxer - boxer/puncher rematches tend to favor the boxer. Especially if the boxer appeared to be doing better as the first fight wore on.
That being said, like the first fight, the betting odds are very close. These odds are closer than the odds to fights that were perceived on paper to be 50-50ish like Canelo-Cotto, Thurman-Porter, Thurman-Garcia, Linares-Crolla II, AJ-Klitschko and others

so the judges arent "average americans"...but decided not to rob one of the bigger names in boxing against an american in NYC? instead they decided to rob the russian guy in a fight that nobody, outside of hardcores, cared about?
lets face it...ward beating kovalev had 0 impact(I repeat zero impact) on US morale as it relates to the modern cold war....no one even noticed....it did nothing
i think ward robbing kovalev made america great again
Ward is the better fighter. He adjusted and finished stronger. The rematch will be a clear Ward victory. That's why.
kov clearly won roudns 9, 10, and 12 with 11 being a toss up. where do people get this stuff from? did you actualyl watch the fight? he outlanded ward in all those roudns and landed teh much better punches in 9, 10, and 12. that equals finishing stronger??? on what planet? why do you say things without any evidence? he finished stronger is based on...............what exactly? and remember you like him better isnt really a great answer. so now that you now kovalev outlanded him and he also landed the much better cleaner shots he finished stronger how??? we can post the videos if you forgot to take your alzheimers medicine again or your glaucoma medicine
Kovalev was highly favored to KO Ward the first time.
In Boxing it is said that the smarter fighter has figured out the other.
Kova said he overtrained for Ward yet at the same time in various interviews he complained about his performance with Chilemba as well.
Fück it, a loser is a loser
no he wasn.t ward was the betting fav in the first fight. i dont know if that played into why they robbed kovalev or not but anything is possible
Yeah I don't know why the judges robbed Kovalev. It doesn't really matter. Could be an anti-Russian thing, or could be a specific dislike for Kovalev -- which is understandable given the unpleasant things he's said and posted in the past, and before the Ward fight.
Not sure any comparison to the Golovkin/Jacobs fight makes much sense here. Different fight. Different everything.
Getting back to the OP: most people thought Kovalev defeated Ward. And now most people seem to favor Ward to win the rematch. Why? In part, I think people distrust the judges to render a fair decision in this particular match. We'll see.

Yeah the judges aren't "average Americans." They know where the fighters come from.
As for the first Ward vs. Kovalev fight, I think enough has been said. Most people think Kovalev won. And those pesky Compubox scores support that determination with Kovalev landing more punches, more jabs, and more power punches than Ward.
I can see why the judges dislike a guy like Kovalev after the stuff he's tweeted and the things he's said. He's not your typical thin skinned, sensitive type. He's got a crude sense of humor from the streets of a Russian working class town. He doesn't manage his brand all that nicely.
Anyway the rematch is coming so soon I'm not there's more to say.

lets face...the average american could look at kovalev and golovkin...read their names...and wouldnt know the difference and would lump them both together
what a story would it be for the american golden child, cancer survivor, to unseat the unbeaten golovkin machine in NYC? it would have been huge.....but of course they judged the fight the way they saw it...so maybe some of you clowns should accept thats what happened last nov in vegas

Ward won a close fight the first time and people expect him to win it easier the 2nd time around.
What's so hard to understand?
Crying robbery doesn't make it true.
I agree with you, the judges could have robbed Golovkin like they robbed Kovalev, ...but then again Golovkin is not from Russia, so maybe that's why they judged the fight fairly without cheating in favor the American as they did with Ward. Americans are very touchy about Russians these days, but have no issue with people from Kazakstan.

again..compubox totals dont win fights...you dont judge a fight at the end by watching compubox stats...lol
you score rounds individually....and i scored golovkin/jacobs a couple of times...and it was real close....with some tough to score rounds that could have gone either way...especially depending on the judges vantage point
but hey....you keep reading compubox stats to score your fights
but of course you glossed over my original point...the US judges could have robbed golovkin if they wanted to...but they didnt....

betting on what the judges will decide rather than what Ward does
You answered it yourself OP. The better counter puncher usually improves in the rematch. The whole cracking the code idea. I picked Ward to win the first fight, scored it for Kovalev, and if I was forced to bet on the rematch I'd still take Ward on points.
Mmm no. Jacobs didn't win enough rounds or land enough shots (see Compubox if that will help you) to beat Golovkin.
Jacobs, like Ward, got his azz knocked down and was outlanded in the fight.
