ANTHONY JOSHUA doubts his name will ever be etched in heavyweight folklore alongside the likes of Muhammad Ali and George Foreman - no matter what he achieves. The IBF and now WBA, IBO heavyweight champion has, of course, got an awful long way to go before he could be considered a great and it is far from a foregone conclusion that he ever will. Completely Disagree, Joshua is not robotic, that guy has boxing mechanics down, and he is still green. We have yet to see a prime Joshua, and once we do then we can have that conversation.
I watched the fight just looking at angles and mechanics. Immediately I realized that the only time Joshu had mechanics was when no one was puching and he was jabbing at the early rounds. When posing he looks mechanical. After that he just spoiled by Wlad.
Didn't you see the way he was moving back, jumping on Wlad, wild stuff w.o. mechanics. Noting was mechanic abt that guy, he is yet to understand how to throw each punch. He somehow throws, and that somehows were about cost him the fight vs a 41 y.o., shot, technician.
I like Joshua, he's nice kid but I honestly don't think he is or will be better than Lennox Lewis. Lewis was a more complete fighter and not so robotic and stiff like Joshua. A prime Lewis vs a prime Joshua, Lennox in 4 or 5 rounds.

The way Joshua conducted himself up to this fight and afterward, made me a huge fan of his. I wish him the best, and a long reign. However, I will be rooting against him if he ever fights Wilder, because my country comes first.
I can see why you think that. Levi Billups who Lewis fought in his 19th fight almost finished his career with a .500 record.
Billups wasn't a great fighter. But after reading your post I looked up Joshua's record. Very impressive. I only saw his last fight and one other so I might have to retract my statement after I look at more if his fights.
I have to disagree. I think its vry plain that Lewis at 19 fights was a better fighter than Joshua is now.

Possibly, they are both huge punchers but Joshua is a more developed fighter after 19 fights than Lewis was, I don't think that's up for debate. Comparing Joshua right now to a Lennox Lewis at the top of his game is a little unfair. We haven't seen the best Joshua has to offer. We know what Lennox went on to do. Time will tell if AJ can match him.

If he would have been fighting Lewis instead of Klitschko he would have been knocked out.

I know what you're saying but I'm not sure it's a fair comparison. Holmes was not in the shape, nor did he have the power, certainly at that point in his career, to KO the best rising HW in the world. I suspect the 41 year old Wlad who fought Joshua would also KO the 38 year old Holmes who fought Tyson.
I'm not saying Joshua is as good as Mike was but old Holmes, as good and underrated as he was for his great jab, movement and boxing skill in his prime, doesn't beat old Klitschko.
While old Holmes may well not equal old Klitschko, the fact that he could still come back years later, beat Mercer, extend Holyfield and run Mccall close indicates he had a bit more left when Mike fought him than what we thought at the time. Yes, I agree old Wlad was better, but then Mike's win was far more dominant. I think 80s Tyson was a victim of he's own prowess to an extent. Watching him crush Tubbs, then seeing Tubbs fight Bowe later is another example. He was just a force of nature then. I like Joshua too, beating Wlad the way he did was great. Hopefully he's the star we've been waiting for. But I still have Mike ahead at this stage.
Go watch Lewis before he got with Manny. He was clumsy as **** and amatuerish. Lewis developed into an ATG, let's give Joshua the same opportunity. On the flip side of what you said, if you put Lewis in his 19th fight against the Joshua we saw in his 19th fight, Lewis gets starched. .
Didn't see your post until I responded but exactly what I'm saying!

Maybe not but if you look back at Lewis' career, he always showed huge potential but also made a lot of mistakes early on and arguably fought weaker competition than Joshua at 19 pro fights in. Of course he developed well and made the right adjustments along the way to become easily one of the best HWs of his era but don't forget he was KO'd by Oliver McCall in his 26th pro bout and later by Rahman. Lewis learned from the McCall fight and showed his mental strength and composure by going on to greatness. Unfortunately for McCall, he suffered what appeared to be a nervous breakdown in the rematch and never reached his own potential.
He beat he's own version of Wlad in Holmes. Holmes may not have been so imposing but had lost two close ones to an awkward guy. Maybe a 41 year old Wlad was better than a 38 year old Holmes. But since he came back many years later, still beat Mercer and extended Holyfield, Holmes was still good. Factor in that Tyson wiped him out, barely taking a shot unlike Joshua.

Im understand what you said, You were comparing apples to oranges. Im comparing Apples to Apples.
AJ isnt in his prime. The traditional thought that a man hits his prime physically at 27 may be true but physical prime and boxing prime are different in my view. Lennox Lewis wasnt at his peak when he was 27 as far as boxing skill, In fact he was getting TKOd by Oliver McCall around that time.
If he would have been fighting Lewis instead of Klitschko he would have been knocked out.
I went to to see the fight on closed circuit with my father in law. I volunteered to go get the beer. Big mistake. By the time I jostled back to my seat looking to avoid spilling the beer in paper cups the fight was over...My father told me the same thing happened to him! I'm glad though, because his pumk azz didn't take me! Lol! I can't expalin to people who weren't of that era, and I don't want to be that man, hating on the youth, but that fight, and Mike doing it in 91 seconds, was a much bigger event in boxing history than what we saw last Saturday!
At this point obviously AJ is going to switch trainers, so who's going to correct those mistakes? If his current trainer could he would have fixed them by now. Second I didn't say Lewis after 19 fights, I said a prime Lewis vs a prime AJ because at 27 about to be 28, AJ is in his prime years.

He was chosen to be a super mega star from the moment he was gifted gold in the olympics.
He has had a gigantic support network and insane good will go his way.
