Young gun Anthony Joshua got up off the canvas to stop former champion Wladimir Klitschko Saturday in the 11th round of a heavyweight world title fight that is being hailed as an epic. In a tumultuous atmosphere at Wembley Stadium, 90,000 fans saw the undefeated 27-year-old add the WBA, IBO titles to his International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt sparked by a devastating right uppercut that led to the 41-year-old Klitschko being felled in the 11th. Joshua is a transcendent athlete, without needing to trash talk or create a false persona.
Keep winning and he is going to be the biggest name in sports, he is exactly what boxing needs right now.
A heavyweight that is built like a superhero, has ridiculous power with an exciting style and knockout intent (100% KO ratio just adds to it), speaks with class....Hearn knows he has the golden ticket.
Joshua is the biggest thing in the sport since Floyd's retirement for sure when it comes to numbers.
Joshua is a bigger star than Canelo. AJ does about 500k PPV's against guys like Molina and sells out tickets in record time and now just sold 90,000 tickets and probably BIG PPV numbers. Just because it's not in USA doesn't mean a thing, it's a global sport. Nobody outside of USA/Mexico knows Canelo anyway apart from being the ginger that lost to Floyd, just as Joshua isn't a global star either. But on their own turfs, Joshua is way ahead and last night made the first moves into becoming global. Canelo v Chavez Jr won't even move the needle in comparison to Joshua v Klitschko when it comes to getting "casuals" and media attention.
Joshua isn't as proven as Canelo, nobody is saying he's a better fighter but in terms of numbers, he's the main man in boxing at the moment.
Skillwise Joshua is not even in the same league as Floyd.
But he is the new, exciting, young king of the heavyweights and the sky is limit for his future. I would like to see him continue to do well and help popularize the sport more and more.
I just hope he isn't on steroids because that would be a bad example to set for the kids.
ain't no one give a sh1t about that ginger pr1ck canela, heavyweight boxing is back
Yeh, I have to agree... Only die hard boxing fans follow the smaller weights,a real heavyweight champion transcends the sport.
Watching fighters that weigh less than your wife isn't for everyone
Sure budz, esp the way he slips punches, rolls, sharp shots, check left hooks, lead right, circling to left, stepping back n left behind low jab, ducking under a lead hook n pivoting to the opponent's back, inside skillz n shid.
Quit joking these skills never been on that island except when the ones like Ali n Rigondeaux stepped there.
Right now, I still say Canelo is the king! Now if Chavez Jr. defeats Canelo, Joshua will be the king, but until then, Canelo is the man! Joshua vs. Wilder might do better financially than GGG vs. Canelo, but I doubt it!
The sooner someone knocks Bellew and his big mouth back down to cruiser weight the better. I've had enough of his big mouth. I noticed he was the first person to jump in the ring when AJ knocked out Klitschko. Since when did they become ring buddies? Dick eater!!
Bellew trying to land the best bud role or something.
Joshua has been an emerging player & this is just one more step towards that end, but its a lil early to suggest Joshua is the king of anything except the UK boxing scene at this point.
I don't even think he's the king of the HW's yet. There's like 4 or 5 undefeated cats in the top ten iirc. And a couple got titles too & the undefeated lineal champion is on the sidelines, but is talking comeback. Joshua still gots business at HW before he can conquer the rest of boxing.
The UK scene is boxing right now.
Who did Floyd fight in his 19th fight ?
Floyd fought Genaro Hernandez in his 18th pro fight. Hernandez was undefeated at SFW and was basically the king of the division.
