Just like he did versus Dillian Whyte. He knocked Wlad down and was going in for the kill and got caught with some big shots in that same round. He was cruising and looking sharp when he was patient, catching Wlad with some counters. He put all caution aside and got rocked trying to finish. Then the next round he got hit with one of the hardest flush right hands I have ever seen. It's a miracle he survived that ****.
He needs to be more cautious in the ring or he'll get put to sleep sooner rather than later.
I noticed as early as round 3 AJ had his mouth hanging open, he was already getting tired.
I said that too when watching it.
One thing i don't understand is why has he got that physique if it's considered so detrimental to his stamina in boxing? It's not just fans on forums saying it, but other boxers, pundits, commentators, trainers etc. etc. they all talk about it. I understand he has it and he's built for power but you would think he has enough experience around him in his team to make sure he's in a suitable shape for endurance too.
Before tonight, i actually thought about it a few times and thought maybe he does actually have good stamina despite his physique because he's surrounded by such a pro team and surely they wouldn't overlook something so big would they? - but after tonight i've gone back to thinking he does gas easily. Surely that's something they will want to rectify.
I know. Joshua was already gassed and barely throwing for a good 2 rounds after he was dropped. Body shots right then would have basically put an end to Joshua getting a second wind i think. Wladimir at that point was too cautious looking to land that big right again or the left hook but Wlad always only has them few punches in his arsenal and never strays from them no matter what the situation is in front of him.
He really wouldn't even have done what he did in round 5 but Joshua basically forced him to fight back because that is not his nature. Round 6 he was a bit aggressive and landed his big right but as Joshua backed off Wlad just fell back into his standard cautious mode.
Wlad has a good style but he has become a prisoner of it even if he has the talent to do different things he just can't. That is the problem with being highly focus on a particular way of fighting, there is no perfect way and once holes start appearing they can;t be fixed easily because everything is so ingrained.
Yea Wlad never goes to the body one of my biggest things that always bugs me watching him fight. I get it against smaller guys because he would open himself up, but fighting a man of similar dimensions it doesn't make that much of a difference.
It would have been nice to see him try something a bit different and leaving no stone unturned. Especially in those rounds where Joshua was doing nothing there were so many opportunities because Joshua was totally focused on head defense. Most fighters would hit his midsection which was wide open and made the whole situation worse.

Whyte did. Check their second round. Whyte was digging in some hard body shots towards the end of the round when Joshua hadn't been unable to recover well which seemed part of the reason Joshua looked tired going back to the corner aswell. Paulie was also commentating on the good body work Whyte was doing at that point.
Wlad rarely goes to the body though anyway, so it's no surprise he didn't try to test AJ there.

Also keep in mind Joshua took 0 body punches tonight, how many fights is someone not going to touch his body to try and take some juice out of him.

AJ punched himself out in the 5th which was why Wlad finished strong that round and dropped him in the 6th. He was breathing heavy through his mouth and started pushing his punches a little. He did recover obviously, but he gets winded easily. Needs to work on his pacing and accuracy which should come with experience and a better conditioning coach.
I'd say its an issue if you gotta dump 2 rounds mid fight to get a 2nd wind.
But yea I think experiencing something like this could help him be more measured & pace himself better in the future so its not like it can't be a learning experience.
Or maybe just try to work on his stamina in the first place, although honestly I just don't know if such a top heavy mfer can ever have a bomb a$$ gas tank.
Those muscles need blood & that sh^t burns hot & fast. Its just sorta gonna be who he is for better sometimes & for worse other times. Its not realllly that different from any other advantages or disadvantages any other particular fighter has with his physical makeup & natural talents.
The reason I don't see as an issue is he threw a lot of punches to get to that state. With his size it's expected to get tired after such a high volume of punches. We see that with Wilder all the time when he gets excited and throw a lot of punches. If he faded just from the pace of the fight I would say it's a problem. It also would have been a bigger issue if he wasn't able to recover.
Imagine if Wlad had invested in Joushas body
Jousha would have gassed very quickly
Someone like Fury attacks the body as much as he does the top
Wlad missed the mark there, Jousha was there for the taking after that knock down, Wlad let him get back in to the fight.
Jousha is very top heavy, when he fell, he fell hard.
He needs a proper trainer, the muscle is actually a hindrance and unnecessary

nah bro, he wasn't gassed. He was stalking Wlad right after he knocked him down and Wlad threw a left hook from Ukraine and caught him. It's right after that when he starts to slow down. He wasn't tired, he was dazed. It's not a stamina issue.
It's not really a stamina issue because he was able recover. However, he was clearly tired after he threw all the punches trying to get Klitschko out of there. Like I said, he started too fast, and the extra weight didn't help either. If he wasn't gassed he wouldn't have slowed his output for the next 3 rounds.
He punched himself out, but Wlad didn't capitalize enough. AJ got a second wind then. It looked like Kirkland-Angulo but only that Kirkland had the youth and temperament to go after Angulo. Wlad is old and has a cautious boxing first style.
It wasn't just one shot though, Wlad hit him with some follow up power shots too. If he was chinny he would have been out cold bro.
When did i say he was chinny?
I said he doesn't recover quickly from being hurt. They are two very different things. Each fighter is different, some get hurt and their heads become clear quickly. Some take a while to shake off the effects of being hurt, and Joshua is one of them.
I'm not knocking him, it's just the truth.
If you want to see someone who gets hurt and recovers fast, check out Floyd v Mosley. Floyd was HURT by those shots but he literally took over the round by the end of the round and looked fresh again in the next round like he hadn't really been hurt. Joshua just doesn't have a fast recovery time it seems, but plenty of fighters don't.
As i say, i'm not saying he's bad, or chinny or whatever else, it's just calling a spade a spade.
I never said he had him hurt as bad as Wlad did but there's no way Joshua shook that off quickly.
He might have shook it off QUICKER, but Joshua still took a couple of rounds to get back on his game against Whyte.
His recovery time just isn't that fast, he stays hurt. It is what it is and it's shown the two times he's been hurt in fights. I'm not taking anything away from him, he got the job done but lets just say it how it is.

He was gassed. He started to fade a round before. I think he started too fast. He recovered well and didn't lose his composure. He's also has a lot heart.

I watched the fight multiplte times bro. He was nowhere near as hurt against Dillian Whyte. He shook that off the same round. Wlad had him on Mars though. That mutha****a can punch!

He was completely gassed after the 5th rnd barrage, his sheer size + all that muscle really takes it out of him when he unloads. He then got tagged, so double combo, exhausted + a serious chin check from Wlad.
Took him about 3rnds to recover Id say. He became more gun shy after that to conserve enough for 1 one barrage it would seem.
