What makes you a fan of a boxer/fighter?
What qualities draw you to a fighter that results you becoming a fan? What makes you support them, watch all their fights, start threads, defend them on forums, take them balls deep in your throat, work the pipe and swallow the gravy?
Do you prefer skills? Power? Technique? Ring IQ? Sexual preference? Skin colour? Favourite cheese?
Personally, nothing makes me a fan of a fighter more than absolute professionalism and dedication to the sport. Dudes not ballooning in between fights, dudes making sacrifices, living like athletes, maximizing absolutely every shred of talent he has, because if done correctly, boxing is a short career, so somebody who's able to dedicate themselves to it for 20 odd years, is somebody who earns my respect. I honestly I can't get behind somebody who doesn't at least TRY to be as great an athlete as they possibly can. That's why Chris Algieri is one of my favourite active boxers, despite him being virtual garbage.
What about you guys?
I'd vote for all of those options. It doesn't mean I would like every single fighter who possessed those qualities though. It just depends on the fighter.
Beating good fighters. That's all, if a fighter beats good fighters, they're good in my book.
KO's don't really matter to me, but if you do it by KO, good for you, even better, you KO'ed a good fighter.
If a fighter i'm critical about defeats a fighter I thought would beat him, that too would make me take a more positive look at that fighter.
Examples are, I didn't like Sergio Martinez, and thought Paul Williams would beat him in the rematch. Then you know what happened, and I then respected Sergio big time.
I didn't like or dislike Kell Brook, but his fight against Porter made me like him.
I didn't think anything of Daniel Jacobs at the top level, and I thought Golovkin was the best MW and didn't think Jacobs would last past 5-6 rounds, but Jacobs fighting a close fight with him made me respect him.
Lastly, I think Linares is overhyped, overrated, I don't like his resume and he is the 3rd best LW in my eyes, but if he can somehow beat Mikey, Easter or Lomachenko, then I would respect that and I would take him more serious.
How much money they make. How many ppvs they sell and if they're an A-side fighter when it comes to negotiations.
If you fit those three qualities, more than likely I'm a fan of yours.
:lol1::lol1::lol1:
As long as the KO happens in a competitive fight. So the charlo/jrock KO is great. The Garcia/salka or Canelo/kahn, not so much.
AGREED!
Couldn't agree more.
Floyd was like the only clean cut guy I really liked. Hagler and Toney were far from clean cut. Sweet Pea was a little rough around the edges.
I also tend to like guys from NJ. So I root for Glen Tapia and hope Shakur Stevenson will do well.
I appreciate all styles but if forced to choose I tend to choose highly skilled over pure power.
LMAO at Floyd being clean cut! He beat the snot out of his baby-mamas and security guard, surrounded himself with thugs and wannabes, sexually harassed Brundrage's wife at ringside, escaped numerous arrests and lawsuits involving shootings and beatings of bouncers and women, made racist and homophobic remarks about fighters, says women are no different than his possessions like cars and jewelry. Yeah, clean image, LOL.
The thing I like about Floyd is that he drives people out of their fking minds. Nearly 2 years retired and they're still trying to tell us that the dude lost to Castillo, ducked Margs, lost to Pac, had a weak resume, etc. :lol1:
I don't like him for a lot of the stuff in his personal life, but I simply can't identify with the people who try to tear him apart as a fighter. That's a swing and a miss.

Lmaaaoooo.
This legit made me chortle and snort a little.

Yeah man, agreed.
I can't tell you how much I love seeing highly skilled fighters do their thing. Seeing dudes parry jabs, or catch them in their gloves. Or slick footwork. Head movement. Etc.
But honestly, seeing that one punch completely render another boxer unconscious is a thing of beauty.

You aren't fooling anyone by omitting Mayweather, you fl0mo.
Why don't you tell us why he's your favorite?
We all know why but why don't you tell us?

Lol, damn dude.
Floyd Mayweather Jr is my absolute favourite fighter on earth, in heaven, and hell.
PBF made me a fan of the sport, after Makunouchi Ippo. If that makes me a *****, then so be it.
Agreed.
I can't stand that fake good guy image myself. I do however, like guys who are clean cut, and presentable. Ie Ward, AJ, Froch, etc.
I can't stand guys who pander to demographics when it suits them. ODH with his recent wall smashing BS is an example of such.

I prefer a well-rounded fighter who leans more towards offense. A boxer/puncher type who takes on tough challenges, fights the best of their respective divisions, and gives the fans their money's worth. Of the current generation of fighter's I favor Roman Gonzalez, Lomachenko, Spence, and Charlo. Well rounded fighters who fight to win convincingly, not cautious fighters whose ultimate goal is to win by UD every fight.
I'm not a fan of trash talking, but so long as it is honest, real and not excessive or in poor taste I can overlook it. Thurman and Loma seem to keep it real in their talk; but I don't approve of the type of trash talk from guys like Fury, Broner, Hopkins, Kovalev, etc.
I like trash talk, but I don't like it when it's forced.
WWE type sh*t isn't what I watch boxing for. But if the animosity is legit, then I'm all for it.

Damn lol. RF is a damn good poster.
Don't hurt 'em, hammer
There isn't one quality or attribute that attracts me to a fighter. I like them all equally but I do respect those that take the time to master skills. I do tend to hate all boxers positioned as "all american" or "goodie 2 shoes" and given the fake good guy image like SRL, ODH and Manny.
Agreed.
