he's physically talented, but he lacks the instincts you need to be a great fighter, or honestly even a very good one. i remember watching him roll punches the wrong way when he was a top 10 fighter and certainly no longer a prospect. you don't even see that often when guys make their debuts. i also remember the hbo booth comparing him to robinson in that same fight :lol1:
That's something I noticed aswell actually. Canelo had the same habit when he was younger.
I agree 100%. I think Mikey destroys him
Yeah that's true.
Even Broner beat the sh*t out of Demarco :lol1:
Linares is good but just very flawed and doesn't have good resistance.
Talent wise he's up there but lacks in way too many areas.
I like watching him though

exactly. when you're in a war with antonio demarco in your prime it's a bad look for your case to be a greater fighter than duran, ortiz, b leonard, whitaker, gans :lol1:

Easter? Some of you really overrate that dude.
LW is just that mediocre. That Easter stands out. Linares couldn't handle journeymen like DeMarco, Salgado, Thompson.
now, roberto duran's not quite as good as the great antonio demarco, but i think it's a bit premature to break out the anointing oil for somebody who got turned into a bloody mess against demarco.

Great fight though
I know you're trolling when you say he's the best LW of this era and any other.
First of all, he'd catch a beat down by Mikey and Easter.
Secondly, if you start listing all the great lightweights of all time, Linares would not even make it to top 100. Let alone the best of any era.
He's not even the best LW of his own era. I don't even know how he got to be Ring champ at 135. Who put him there? Was it GBP?
TBRB probably has the better rankings with the championship open, Mikey as #1, and Linares at #2 and even then I still think Barthelemey and Easter are the real top 3.
Easter? Some of you really overrate that dude.
Yes because it would finally be the end of Linares false reign. But at least TBRB kinda knows what's up, that Mikey is the best LW, not Linares. I say "kinda" because they have Linares at #2 which is still too high.
I expect a lot of Mikey fans to hype up Linares though, and I know why they're gonna do that, and i'm not mad. But i'ma keep it real, Mikey is going to destroy Linares with ease, it's a mismatch. I'm a Mikey fan, but i'm not gonna lie about his opponents. Mikey vs Linares is a mismatch. Sure Linares will box, he will look good as long as he stays away from Mikey's punches. But when he gets cornered and caught, he's done. And Mikey is not a follower, he knows how to cut off the ring. Lomachenko, a SFW, has an infinitely better chance at beating Mikey than Linares does.
i favor mikey to spark them both out...I usually go with the sleek boxer over punchers but Mikey garcia is a well balanced fighter who happens to have serious power....great great point...Mikey has good footwork whether he comes forward, moves laterally, etc. one of my favorite active fighters today.
His resume is questionable which is why I said he is not hof worthy yet. But Linares is middle aged in terms of boxing years and is coming into form. He is at his peak and has lot more fights left so it is premature to judge him at this time.
Linares and Khan have many more differences than similiarities.
Khan relies on his handspeed but fundamentally he does alot of things wrong. His upper body movement and punches are not in sync with his footwork. That is also why he gets caught by slow fighters with silly punches.
Linares is nothing like him. He is the epitome of a txtbook boxer puncher.
Technically, Linares is on another league.
Khan? Lmfao cmon
Khan is a far better boxer than Linares.
Khan would destroy each and every one of Linares opponents. He'd beat down DeMarco via death by a thousand cuts. He'd probably KO Salgado and Thompson.
I cannot see Linares surviving past 6 rounds with Maidana at 140. It was a miracle that Khan survived him, and it would be a fairy tale if Linares could survive him.
Don't get fooled by their matchmaking, Khan has fought far better fighters than Linares has, which is why we've seen more of Khan's flaws, because that's what happens when you fight very good fighters who can beat you. Khan isn't very good, he's a bottom 10 WW. But he's a bottom 10 WW simply because he's just in a very good weight class. Linares is at the top of LW simply because it has been a very weak weight class, but once Mikey gets him in the ring he's gonna end all that talk of HOF, or being the best LW and all these overrating threads.
OR, they're not easily fooled by good matchmaking.
Linares reminds me exactly of Khan, just worse and with a more padded record, and worse losses. GBP is clearly keeping Linares the hell away from any fighter who is remotely a puncher.
For the longest time, people believed so much in Khan being this really good, smooth boxer, who has a very nice style to look at. Until he steps up to the real deal and gets KO'ed. With Linares, we don't even have to go there, dude didn't even have to step up like that to get dropped. At least after Prescott, Khan has been KO'ed by some good fighters in DSG and Canelo.
Lots of props to GBP for the great matchmaking, allowing fans to forget how fragile Linares really is and even giving Linares a Ring championship, and now his first "HOF?" thread. If I was a boxer, and could pick any promoter, i'd go with GBP in a heartbeat.
Wow, what beating Kevin Mitchell and Anthony Crolla can do for you :lol1:

the good matchmaking point is a valid one.
Like I said, I know Linares won straps at 126 & 130. I just couldn't tell you who he won them from, and I know that they were weaker champs or else I would remember them.
He still has a shot, but he needs to consistently excel at 135 like he hasn't been able to do at 126 & 130.
Like I said, I bet he doesn't. But I would love to see him v. Mikey or Easter.
IMO mikey vs linares is the fight to see at 135

Linares is my favorite fighter after Marquez but i dont think he is quite there yet. But with a few more significant victories, he is on the way.
Those who sht on a fighter like Linares dont know sht about boxing period.
Linares is a very special fighter.

If he won all 3 of those, he would be a lock imo. Don't know how realistic Easter is with GB and Haymon. Flannagan I'm not sure about as the Brits are probably sick of him whipping their guys asses lol. Mikey could happen, really the best fight at 135 imo.
IMO mikey vs linares is the fight to see at 135
The eye test says Linares is a great talent. But he has been soooo inconsistent. He's going to have to really excel to make up for his blah past to get the HOF
Like someone mentioned, his belts at 126 & 130 were won against who? I cant even remember and assume they were paper champs. I don't recall any really good wins either, not until Crolla, who is a good, not great fighter. Those losses to Demarco & Thompson and I think some others I remember more.
Honestly, I think he needs to run some excellent wins at 135 like Garcia, Easter, others and he would be borderline. If he could also manage to beat Loma, or do some damage at 140, then he'd be more like a shoo-in.
I'd bet he doesn't get in, although w the HOF's wacky 3 boxers get in every year system, he could get lucky.
if he managed to unify 135, he'd have a shot
wins over Garcia, Flanagan, easter jr. would look nice...arent all 3 undefeated
