Why is Khan still seen as such a good fighter?

He was a much better fighter years ago when Roach trained him. He had good wins over Judah and Maidana. After Garcia knocked him out and he went with Hunter he hasn't done much. He rarely fights and when he does fight it's usually a cherry pick. I thought Canelo was kicking his ass from the third round long before the KO. I'm sure his next fight will be another cherry picked softy who can't break an egg. Some UK fans are loyal to their boxers beyond all logic and reason. They will always support Khan.I don't think Khan will be around much longer. One or two more KO losses should send him in to retirement unless he is broke.Khan is a low risk high reward fight so he may get the Pacquiao fight and get KOed again.

oscar got jobbed against trinidad. he also beat whitaker when he was still a top 5 p4p fighter. vargas is also a step above anybody khan was able to beat or who khan even fought. not sure if you were watching boxing at the time but he was a terrific fighter. just happened to be in an era with de la hoya and trinidad, two of the hardest punchers you'll ever see, and he was moved into those fights when he was a very young man. i've also demonstrated that the top tier of oscar's time was better, and he fought them from 130-135 all the way to middleweight. it's just not a fair comparison. khan was a frontrunner with an awful chin. de la hoya was a terrific fighter who fought in a great era and against everybody. I'll give you the sweet pea fight. He garnered much of his admiration beating a faded Mexican legend in JCC. But against Trinidad, Mosley x2, let's face it, sturm beat the dogsh1t out of delahoya and got jobbed, Hopkins, PAC...the top tier guys beat him. Well, he beat Maidana, and when Floyd asked fans who his next opponent should be, they chose Khan over Maidana...Floyd chose Maidana. There are plenty of fighters out there who can testify to Khan's skills. He has speed, power, and good footwork. He's been KO'd three times, twice by fighters who have legit KO power. He was holding his own boxing well before his KO losses. He has some decent wins over Maidana, Malignaggi, Alexander and even Judah who was outboxed and looking for a reason to quit.

Khan being a big draw is fake news. It's a myth, nothing more. Correct. Khan lost his appeal in the UK years ago, probably after the Garcia fight. He would only be a draw there against Brook and most would be hoping he got KO'd (again). He really traded on the "Olympic medallist" thing for a while but those days are gone. Then it was largely off the back of the support of the Pakastani/Muslim fanbase but he has been exposed so many too many times at the top level even that has fallen by the wayside. off topic, but you're one of the biggest ward fans on here so i'm curious - how do you think the rematch will play out..? i think ward thought he'd be able to tdo better boxing from the outside and trained for that kind of a fight in camp. they probably thought, "why get close to a guy with that kind of power when you can beat him from the outsdie.?" but i think that's wrong, and they realized it at nad to adjust late. kovalev fights very well from outsdie. won the jabbing contest, landed the right hand that put ward down badly. i think they'll train to take the fight to kovalev, which is honestly how i would have trained him from the start. kovalev's power comes at arm's length. ward's better suited to put his head in kovalev's chest and fight dirty. if he does that again he wins.

Khan's kept his name in the media which I think people associate with being good. His feuds with Brook and publicly clamoring for a Floyd fight combined with fighting low risk moderate reward fights kept him at least above water. Personally I think he's been coasting off his 140 days
