Looking at the current crop of World level fighters, it seems that 99% of them are entitled as phuck and want recognition as great after a couple of good wins (or sometimes not even that).
They demand huge paychecks and dodge big fights.
Seems like the ideal career these days for most of these guys is:
-Fight some bums until you have fought 20 or so fights
-fight 1 or 2 top level guys
-fight an old past prime guy
-demand more money or recognition as great
-fight b level guys
-retire
Is here a desire to be the GREATEST anymore? Doesn't seem like it.

I stopped a while ago trying to be the best because I realised from birth I was the best anyway. I've done everything. Things that lower class citizens dream of. I drive a Ferrari spider
GGG is trying to be the best and will soon be unified champ, but try hard as he might you'll always have someone ducking someone. Canelo relinquishing his belt has to rank as one the greatest ducks of all time.
Agreed, there's gonna be comments of 'bu..but.. it's a business!!' and them people are missing the point that these fighters don't fight for legacy or to be the best anymore, it's about doing just enough to claim you're the greatest. It's a shame really.
I now care less who they fight as long as they're active, at least 3 times a year. Fighting once a year is a disgrace. These people should be harassed and hounded by the media in a relentless fashion, if you ask me.

I think a number of British fighters have chased greatness (Hatton, Khan, Brook, AJ etc) but in terms of American fighters, I agree with you 100%.
The problem is, the top guys may fight once a year, make 2 million dollars and then go into hiding, all the hwile moaning about not getting credit or some rubbish even though out of a resume of 20-30 fights they probably only have 1 world class win.
It's a shambles.

Good post. BUT honestly, yesterday I had a free moment and I looked up boxing UNDISPUTED champions & let me tell you, for boxings LONG HISTORY the list is pathetically small. No matter what era we are in, the desire for $ eventually trumps legacy.
Ward and Kovalev
That is a rematch that SHOULD happen, glad both parties wanted to prove themselves, also impressed with Spence (he seems hungry and willing to fight), time will tell though.
What makes me puke most about this current crop of fighters is the lack of desire to fight more often. Some fighters even won their fights months ago getting barely any scratches, and they're still in no rush to work on their next fight. Just imagine what these people do for long periods of time. Nothing. These are not the type of fighters this sport needs.
