Why is Roberto Duran rated higher than Sugar Ray Leonard?

Hes not, he lost to guys like Kirkland Laing which makes him terrible Beating 100 tomato cans at lightweight dont make u good

They're both top 10 caliber. If I took the time to actually make a list I'd imagine both of them being on it or at least knocking on the door. I just give Duran the edge for his overall body of work. He has some really bad losses but I overlook it given the number of fights he had. I wouldn't argue with you. But don't think it's far fetched for him to be outside.

ok. got it. 1 win at a young age = ATG status :fing02: you also didnt asnswer the question Ok nappy boy lets get this in perspective .....benitez,duran,kalule and hearns had a combined record of 178 wins 1 loss and 1 draw when leonard faced them...hearns was 32-0 with 30 knock outs when leonard stopped him....benitez 38 with 1 draw when leonard stopped him ...kalule was 36-0 when leonard knocked him out , roberto duran was 72 and 1 when leonard beat him...hearns was a 5 weight world champion , duran was a 4 weight world champion, benitez was a 3 weight world champion ....hagler and not lost in 11 years and had defended his title 12 times when leonard came back out of retirement with only 1 fight in five years...leonard won titles at welterweight,light middleweight,middleweight , super middleweight and light heavyweight and that was also with having to retire at the age of 26 due to a detached retina.....when he retired in 1982 he was the undisputed world welterweight champion and was considered the number ine p4p fighter in the world.....between november 1979 and february 1982 leonard faced Roberto Duran x2 ,wilfred benitez,ayub kalule,thomas hearns,dave boy green,larry bonds, bruce finch ...so in just over 2 years sugar ray leonard had 8 world title fights and won 7 and the one he lost he avenged in his next fight....nappy man if your gonna troll ...troll correctly

Now you combine that with being the greatest lightweight of all time who moved up in weight and would eventually win a middleweight title. And I'm not even going to touch on the technical aspect about how Duran is one of the most complete, well rounded fighters in the history of boxing. If Duran is not on a top 10 list, I immediately click away. It's just not credible to me. He wouldn't be on mine Leonard however probably would be. Or higher than Duran either way.

At his best duran was greater I'd say. He has some losses but I question if he was dedicated at all times? So I put it down to that and dfont downgrade him too much

They did have a rubber match. Duran was 105 years old in the rubber match. what does that prove

its not based on h2h. its resume vs resume. srl highlights - duran 3x hearns 2x hagler benitez hagler, benitez and hearns 2 were not quality wins and he lost to duran~ (benitez is all hype. bfd 'he was young'. hagler was shot and some say he should have won. hearns rematch was a sham) outside of hearns 1 and duran 2, what else is there :dunno: Leonard beating benitez was not a quality win...are you on drugs....benitez was 37 and 1 draw and was a masterful boxer...leonard dropped benitez 2 times and stopped him the last round ..benitez then went on to win the light middleweight title and won a landslide in beatimg duran...talk sense nappy man...leonard had 1 fight in 5 years and came back to beat marvin hagler who had not lost for 11 years..close fight but leonard deserved the victory.....the hearns rematch was a close fight but hearns did edge it but remember hearsn starched duran ...i can see Duran above Leonard but i can also see leonard above him

I think there pretty much level in terms of resume and i cant really seperate them......head to head leonard is better and if he boxed duran like he did in the 2nd fight duran would lose every time...durans greatness is built up from his lightweight days but he really did have a stinker for a few years after he lost to leonard....lost to lang , struggled with jimmy batten and was soundly beaten by wilfred benitez , was knocked out by thomas hearns as well and i think all those losses is negative point towards his all time rating....it was durans lightweight reign that makes him so high in the rankings and his redemption with davey moore.....duran and leonard are my two favourite fighters

That Hagler fight versus Duran is the reason why I rate him higher than SRR. It was actually looking pretty even and that's a blown up lightweight Hagler was fighting. And yes, Hagler did win. But Duran had this aura about him for me. Like some hustler who you think wouldn't be as smart as he was, to do the things he does, that make a lasting impression in a fight; with how effective they really are.

Lightweight prime Shane Mosley lights up Duran imo. Yeah I said it. You can say it all you want, doesn't make it right. Because Duran would kick Mosley's ass.

Between the win he holds over Leonard (arguably the best win of any fighter ever), his ATG lightweight resume, and the fact he was such a small fighter still winning championships at middleweight, he built a greater career than Leonard.

duran was so much smaller then all of those guys. p4p was he better then leonard? no way. but greatness wise he's above leonard. This :boxing:

I would say furan is greater his flame burned brighter for longer inspite of being koed. Srl only had to perform to high standard for a lesser amount t of yeasrs, whilst Duran was for lon g haul

He literally said Duran can BOX and punch... He put strong accent on Leonard high level boxing ,sayin Duran is presseure fighter ,ofc his not saying Duran is not skilled or he cant box(that would be heresy).Duran is boxed as good or better then Ray.

Do people really think Leonard fought 'Duran's fight' in the first? I have never seen Leonard miss so many punches. Duran's defence and slipping was masterful.

Well, he was the smaller, older, former lightweight and the only fighter to beat prime Leonard, when younger, bigger, prime ATG fighters like Hearns, Benitez and Hagler couldn't. Think about that for a moment. He'd been fighting for a decade before all of those guys reached their prime and moved up from super bantamweight before becoming lightweight champ and then beating Leonard. Despite fighting those guys and being famous as part of that group, he's still not of their generation. He's of the generation before and was the fighter of the decade for the 70's as a lightweight, not the 80's as a welterweight and middleweight. This is what a LOT of people might overlook. Duran was beating guys like Ernesto Marcel while Leonard was entering high school.
