How good is your defense if you have to fight so safe and cautious in the ring to not get hit. Floyd is one of the most talented fighters of all time but I do have a problem with him not being able to throw punches as he moved up so that he could protect himself. I don't like that there are so many negative fighters, allowing guys to walk them down. Stand your ground and hold the center of the ring.
First fight? Yeah, probably.
Second fight was different.
Marcos felt something and cruised to that L.
kenny bayless ruined the rematch. be real. he allowed no inside fighting and that was basically maidanas only hope. and even with that i never saw maidana giving him respect. canelo was the one that gave floyd respect he froze in his presence.
3 things Floyd detractors can't get around:
1) He lands half his power shots.
2) No matter who he is hitting or how good their chin is supposed to be,
there is a point in pretty much every one of his fights where his opponent gets gunshy.
3) You can't do that to someone if you have zero power.
except for maidana. he showed Floyd no respect.
Excellent question. If your soul focus is defense then...so what? Pernell Whitaker was better. Right in front of you and you still look like a fool.
kinda like what floyd did to canelo.
Maybe you missed where he stood in front of Canelo and toyed with him or when he traded vs Cotto and when he was backing Mosley up. Was his defense not on display then? Was he not offensive enough?

not sure you understand the oint of defense. you need to take fewer risks if your opponent isn't hitting you. you win a round in boxing by 10-9 unless you drop an opponent or batter him until he's virtually out on his feet. judges very rarely give a 10-8 round unless you have dropped your opponent.
if you've got brittle hands and you don't have knockout power there's really no reason to take risks if you are the more effective puncher. you win a round by one punch or 30, it's still 10-9. if you;re trying to make money in boxing you're a heck of a lot better not risking your value as an asset by taking punishment.
again, 10-9, folks.

Pernell was better at standing in front of his opponent but he also got hit more. Mayweather was able to generated offense and defense at the same time. Watch the Marquez fight. How many times did we see him throw a punch and begin to duck the counter in the middle of it? Why was it so hard for Canelo to counter him in their fight? I'll admit his defensive style wasn't fan friendly, unlike Whitaker, but it doesn't mean he had no offense.
He did a great job of transitioning from defense to offense.
I think a better example of where you are trying to get at is Adrien Broner who doesn't make that transition very well at all. Erislandy Lara is another example.
Floyd wasn't my favorite to watch in his last few years because I prefer fighters that attack and throw combinations...Floyd was usually boring to me + a piece of crap person...but to say he had no offense would be a lie.
against Canelo he landed 232 punches
against Maidana he landed 230
against Cotto he landed 179
against Mosley he landed 208
against Guerrero he landed 195
what are you talking about?
Really that few against Cotto? Always thought it was more. He had Cotto hurt towards the end too.
You must have only started watching Floyd in 2015...
^This. Floyd adapted his style to be more efficient as he aged and wore down. He used to be pretty aggressive, but ended up playing strong defense/counters once his hands went bad, etc. If you're talking about "Money", you're only talking about half the picture.
