MIKE Tyson is widely regarded as one of the best to ever set foot in the ring thanks to his fearsome combination of power and precision. Tyson, nicknamed The Baddest Man on the Planet, ended his career with a respectable 50-6-2 record including 44 knockouts. Undersized for a heavyweight at just 5ft 10ins, Tyson more than made up for his deficiencies with a warrior spirit and aggression that often defeated his opponents before a punch was thrown. HOLYFIELD WOULD HAVE WHUPPED TYSON BACK IN 1990 WHEN THEY WERE 1ST SUPPOSED TO FIGHT!
HOLYFIELD ALWAYS HAD MENTAL EDGE ON TYSON, WAY BACK TO THE BILLIARDS GAME AT OLYMPIC TRAINING PREP.
That's why they made Holyfield wait as the #1 HW contender for 18 months!!!
And your sorry azz example of the Toney fight was when Holyfield was already waaaaay past prime... waaay after the Tyson fight. Nice try, you lose... yours opinion has been set... CHECKMATE!
You know nothing of Chess so Tyson was in his prime ? Yea right but you make excuses for Holyfield losing to a fat blown up middleweight
One thing I always found fascinating about Tyson's mental approach, that a lot of people miss, is that it's mental fierceness to cover fear and fragility. He was not a supremely confident monster. He had vulnerabilities. Cus taught him to combat that, hence this wealth of great Tyson quotes we have.
Well said.
Oh come on you know Tyson was a basket case by the time he fought Holyfield . Tyson of 86 to 89 beats any Heavyweight in history. Oh and don't forget Holyfield was a steroid cheat take his steroids away and even a wash up Tyson beats him. You seen what Toney did to Holyfield when Holyfield wasn't juicing
Mike Tyson vs Tyson Fury is a tossup if Mike doesn't get him out of there in 2.

That was while he was destroying everyone, after Douglas nobody feared him and his boxing looked average.

Opinion!
Saying Mike Tyson could have beat anyone when he was in his prime is "ludicrous". That opinion comes from an affinity to Mike. I love Mike Tyson as well but I doubt he could have beaten Ali. We will never know however, as Mike fought in an era where the heavyweights weren't that great, I believe Mike would have been better back in the golden age of heavyweights because his competition would have been better. Then again... Maybe not. Maybe he would have taken more losses or had less knock outs. Fighters wouldn't have feared and folded so easily to him. Maybe his era was perfect for him because of those reasons however, there's is no taking away from his greatness. 50-6-2 with 44 knockouts is astounding no matter what era he fought in. He was a prodigy and we, as well as the sport of boxing, should be grateful to have experienced the time of IRON MIKE!
You know how many times I read mike tyson was a bully and would fall to anyone able to stand up to him on youtube comments.
I guess clearing out the 80s heavyweight division and knocking out titlist and challengers makes you a bully. They act like he was fighting jr high students or some chit. Theyre unaware that lewis was going for a second olympics and still amateur in 1988 and holyfield was a cruiserweight.
Tyson was intimidating but that really undersells the toughness of heavyweight contenders.
Yeah Mike,
But I remember when it was YOU that looked away during the Holyfield II staredown.
You already knew that Evander was there to beat your ass and like Teddy Atlas prophetically called it...you found a way to quit that still ensured your "bad ass" reputation.
And then after biting a piece of the mans ear off - grounds for IMMEDIATE disqualification in any other fight - the great Mills Lane let the fight continue, and you tried to bite his other ear...you wanted to make SURE that fight was over because you knew you were going to get knocked out again.
I like the new Mike Tyson..don't go back to being a **** talking *******.
Those days when you were "managed" by John Horne and Rory Holloway..were the worst!!
John Horne was worthless - a failed stand up comedian trying to be a boxing manager.
This is the Star covering something Mike said ages ago and acting like he just said it. One of my favourites fighters growing up, the Tyson of the Rooney days was a totally different athlete to the flat footed plodder he became after. I do remember thinking the same thing when I saw that staredown though.

Kevin Rooney would cradle Mike's head like a baby and whisper in his ear in the corner whenever he had any self-doubt. He was incredibly sensitive behind the violent aura he gave off in the ring.
