Does it make him a P4P #1 right now and put him in the ATG conversation?
It should, if he beats a man two weight classes above him who is the best lightheavyweight champion, he should be crowned as a ATG midddleweight no doubt.
If he loses, does it really damage the legacy?
Side note: Jacobs and Ward are the same height, Jacobs has longer reach and most likely more power. Interesting.
I have always given Golovkin a great shot at beating Ward when their fight at 168 was discussed. Fast forward two years and the narrative has shifted: Ward has slowly moved up 7 lbs, intelligently putting on weight, while Golovkin has taken his conditioning even more seriously, and is coming in lighter than he ever has. Ward is also 3 years younger and has the benefit of the long 13-15 break going for him, he's a much fresher fighter.
If Golovkin fights and beats Ward within the next 2 years, he automatically jumps into an ATG discussion.
For the record, I firmly believe that in the twilight of his career Golovkin will move up to and fight at least one of them - Ward or Kov. He should. Other fighters have done stuff like that, no reason why he shouldn't. But not yet. He still has plenty of unfinished business at 160.
If GGG had issues with the subtle movements of danny, you think he can contend with Andre? Why are we acting as if a 35 year old fading fighter is gonna have easy spots vs Andre?
