I ve heard so much complaint about not having a clear pound for pound champ right now, GGG seemed to be it but he struggled in his fight, Ward could be it too, but he struggled in his fight, Thurman but he struggled ( Damn people fighters are allowed to struggle hahaha this famous boxers do not "suck" stop being haters.
So ... what fight do people need to see to be convinced we have a new p4p king in boxing ?
GGG vs Canelo, and Ward vs Kovalev II are the ones that come to mind.
Of course we have other fighters that deserve mention but lack opposition Lomachenko, Crawford, Chocolatito.
Toughts ?
apparently it depends on how convincing the victory is. Ward/Kovalev was hyped for two years as the fight to determine the pfp #1 spot. afterwards all that didn't matter as people had different opinions on the outcome.
now some people are hyping Spence/Brook winner as #1 welterweight. personally I'll keep Pacquiao and Thurman above whoever wins that fight.
GGG/Canelo only decides pfp #1 if you have both guys ranked high on the list. which I don't. but whoever wins that fight it'll be the best win on their resume for sure.
Ward and Kovalev are top five pfp on most lists. therefore their rematch has to decide the definitive #1 spot.
Lomachenko nowhere near top five. not enough fights. Rigo way too inactive, biggest win was ages ago, skillwise hes top five. but pfp is all about resume.
If it's a close fight that could be scored either way but Kovalev gets the decision they'll switch places. Kovalev will be #1 Ward #2. Canelo wouldn't even make top 5 on my list, i don't rate Golovkin that highly.
It's just a matter of time before crawford or lomachenko overtakes those guys anyway.
Even if they fight and we get a clear winner could I honestly tell myself that either guy is better than Lomachenko or Crawford?
I don't think I could. Those guys are better fighters, Its always hard to compare fighters in different weight divisions but in this case I can go out on a limb and say those guys are more versatile and better fighters overall. They both also have better resumes than GGG, although Canelo probably has the best of all 4.
I think maybe the magazines might give it to the winner because of the hype around it, and the fact that both guys are already top 10 p4p guys. But neither guy is better than the two aforementioned fighters, not for me.
Let me put it this way, could you ever picture a naturally smaller fighter beat EITHER Lomachenko or Crawford? Its pretty hard, if not impossible to imagine, which is a pretty good sign that you have two bonafide greats on your hands. My humble opinion.
I feel you bro, Lomachenko skills are just mad, he does things ive never seen anyone else do. But he lacks names and opposition, skillwise him and Rigo are as good as anyone.
So what about this scenario.
If Canelo vs GGG, turns out to be a mismatch in favour of any , but Ward vs Kovalev turns out to be really competitive.
Then the winner of Canelo vs GGG would be the clear p4p guy of the moment.
Or viceversa, if ward or kovalev wins with ease against each other but ggg vs canelo turns out to be too competitive, then the winner of Ward vs Kovalev becaomes the clear p4p.
It's hard to say... In your scenario, a very entertaining high-level display of skills from both Fighters would help...
If Canelo was able to fight his fight and still convincingly lose to Triple G, then I'd consider the proper criteria for the argument to be established...
But the mythical pound-for-pound King is quite subjective and oftentimes a popularity contest...
Lomachenko and Crawford both need more pelts on their mantle and they both are well on their way...
PFP is just personal opinion and can't be proven right or wrong. Everyone has a right to their own opinion on who is on their top pfp list if they have a list. For instance Crawford is up near the top of many lists but he isn't even in my top 10. Spence isn't on many lists but he is high on mine. Nobody can prove Crawford is better than Spence or that Spence is better than Crawford unless they fight each other. You will never see agreement on who is number 1. You might see close to complete agreement that a super fighter like the prime Mayweather is number 1 PFP. Right now no one fighter stands out above the rest like he did. A case could be made that any one of 7 or 8 different guys are PFP number 1 if that's who you like. I would consider the winner of a Canelo vs GGG fight as PFP number 1 if they looked great winning the fight. Lots of people wouldn't recognize the winner of a Canelo vs GGG fight as PFP number 1. They would still have some other boxer or boxers ranked higher than either of them.
