IMHO who among the fighters past and present who are not overrated? even SRR at times is being overrated.
I am a fan of both Ali and Tyson, and probably overrate them myself, but I am just thankful that I witness both their reigns during my lifetime
I said he was a great fighter but he isnt a runaway pick for the greatest of all time at heavyweight and sure isnt as far as P4P. Ali was a great self promoter, he said he was the greatest of all time so often it just stuck and for the general public that dont know anything about boxing he is. This is where people go sideways on me about Ali, I concede that he waa great fighter, I just dont have him up on the same pedestal as a large majority of the world.
Its funny to me when people say no one could beat him when he lost as early as 1971 to Frazier then had two more life and death (almost literally) fights with him. Jimmy Young arguably beat him, Ken Norton beat him up all three fights and then lost to Leon Spinks with 8 pro fights total. I mean the list goes on and on. He wasnt this unbeatable juggernaut that he is made out to be by alot of people today. This is what I mean by overrated, it goes with the territory, almost all of the greats are overrated to a degree and he was absolutely one of the greats.
Im not leaving out the Ali from the sixties either but he really made his name in the seventies and he lost alot of the fights he got decisions for during that time imo.
Fair enough ,i can see only Holmes ,Lewis and prime Bowe being better in HW then Ali but thats maybe (I dont buy Rocky or Luis as best HWs )
floyd beat more champs than both of them and would school both of them head to head. after waiting for years for ali to show signs of parkinsons he would step into the ring with him and school him to a debatable win. after tyson gets ko'd multiple times he would step in the ring with him and barely win a decision. proof!
i dont see how ,ofc he had other things then boxing going ,everybody who is crossover had, thats why he is icon ,in boxing terms his one of the best who laced them(to hard to say who was the best)

Yes, he is overrated. You don't think so good for you.

Ali overrated?? cuse he had close decision? lol SRR and SRL had them ,guy fough veterans when he was young then the best of his generation and then went to war with young lions in Spinks and Liston ,are we realy at boxing forum sayin Ali is overrated??
Tyson in his prime wasnt overrated ,then he used this hype to goeven when he was done ,but thats another story.

Lol, I always ruffle feathers when it comes to Ali. I know his history very well, I watched him live through out the seventies when he had lost a step but I've seen I would guess all his fights that were filmed. Someone said dude was top 3 P4P, that's some love right there, I applaud your loyalty but you are dead wrong. I

Both were overated but it goes with the territory. Ali got a lot of questionable decisions, Tyson flopped after a short but dominant run. I get alot of heat because I don't bow down to Ali and worship. He was a great fighter for sure but the pedestal he is on is made of smoke and mirrors. I reckon most of his image is from his life outside the ring. Judging purely from a boxing standpoint there are many fighters I would give more than a fair chance of beating him especially after he came back from his ban, that's the real shame is the years he lost due to that.
Well that's because you don't know his full history you knew the Ali that cameback after being banned for 3 years of his prime, Ali in his prime was a savage he would predict which round he would knock guys out in and actually do it, and he beat the unstoppable at The time monster sonny Liston he was no hype job.
Tyson is obviously the more overrated guy. But he was a great champion so the fact that everyone knows him is not a bad thing.
He was more reliant on his conditioning than Ali, and that led to his downfall. Also, Ali won in the face of great adversity on many occasions. When Tyson was faced with adversity, he crumbled.

P4p he is top 3. At heavyweight no one in history beats him including Joe Louis.
Tyson. Probably the most over rated fighter ever. Now before everyone red ks me and bashes me. much respect he was fighting way bigger men so he was always at a disadvantage, but really what's his best win?
I second this... Tyson lost every time he met a great fighter.. & Douglas was not even great..
