If you are the coach for Danny Jacobs, what is your gameplan going into the fight with Golovkin?
Fight your fight, and the stoppage will come, imo.
Golovkin is there to be hit; for all the talk about his style, there are obvious holes in Golovkin's game that are there to exploit.
Mind your defense, heavy jab to control the space, and hammer Golovkin when he tries to force his way in. Punch Golovkin in between his shots, and Jacobs' power is of the sort that he can end things on a single shot.
Hmm, I don't get how most are saying jump on GGG early. Yeah, he has to earn some respect (measured & focussed). Too much nervous energy and he's liable to get decked in the process. All the "Jump and hope for the best" talk like the guy has no craft.
I didn't pick him but if Jacobs wins I can see him playing it very conservatively for a couple rounds, just moving and peppering in light counters. Once he has his range, I can see Danny hurting him with a clean uppercut and finishing him off.
I honestly don't think Jacobs can outbox Golovkin. At some point he'll have to hurt Golovkin but he has to do it from long range. I noticed Golovkin don't like to fire back unless he's close enough for counter to the body or he'll slip something over a lazy jab. If Jacobs hurt him he has to go for broke but he can't get too close. I also don't think Jacobs can hurt him from one punch. However he might be able to catch in the middle of a flurry. I think Golovkin will try to box and wait for Jacobs to make a mistake or slowly break him down.
I can't believe trying to get a decision is leading. Ggg barely lose rounds i doubt jacobs will win 7/12 rounds. Hes gonna somehow stop ggg so i voted guns blazing.
Stepping to the man might well be Jacobs' best (only?!) shot but that is a kamikaze move, IMHO. Staying in mid-range too long is not a wise move for someone who seems susceptible to having his lights turned off with one punch.
Sure will be interesting to see Jacobs' gameplan. Going in guns blazing is just asking for trouble, I think, but who knows, maybe that is the way to go
Jacobs will not get away with any wild wingers (as he is prone to do) without being punished, so he needs to be v. careful about getting in GGG's face
He has to stay on the outside and box Golovkin at long range. Catch Golovkin coming in with straight rights. Tie Golovkin up if he can when Golovkin gets close. Be a dead weight in the clinches forcing Golovkin to waste energy trying to break out. The amount of wrestling on the inside will depend on the referee. Not likely that it be allowed because the bookies will get upset. LOL. Use movement and angles but don't waste energy. If he tires against Golovkin he's a dead man. Above all don't get hit flush on the jaw.
Exactly how I would coach him...use his jab and reach to box on the outside...hit 'em with straight rights when he closes the distance and tie him up...he also needs to throw left hooks off of his jab...right uppercuts and right hooks...invest in shots to the body every damn round!
Agree but also don't forget the over the top left Golovkin knocked Rubio out with. If you watch the replay in slow motion that punch concussed and caused a temporary dent in Rubio's head before he went down.
Ok ok.
-right over the top
-left over the top
-inside, short left
Rubio went down like a sack of potatoes in that fight!!

He needs to back up GGG. Ideally he would hurt or stun him early, and force GGG to fight going backwards.
Obviously not an easy thing to do, which is why I'm picking GGG, but I think that's his best chance.
Get his respect early and box smart without moving excessively. He has the physical attributes but I just don't think he is skilled enough to handle Golovkin.
GGG seems really good at getting his right hand over the top from range against tall opponents, so I worry that Jacobs won't be able to slip the jab without getting timed. Of course, none of GGG's tall opponents were great punchers (Murray, Ishida... Simon!) and Jacobs might stand a chance thanks to hand-speed. But getting timed is not usually down to sloppy hand-speed alone... He's gonna have to be very sharp on the night to avoid 2 punches in particular, I think:
- the right over the top
- short left, if he comes in
Boxing at range, in and out, is his only chance, I feel. Gonna be hard for him not to get walked down, if he boxes like that tho!!

He needs to keep GGG turning in the centre of the ring, beat him to the jab or counter over the top of his jab. His speed, reflexes and reach are his path to victory
^^^this^^^ of course its easier said than done but this is the way. Jacobs needs to gain respect early too. Sharp counters around the guard on the ear should do it.

Try jumping on GGG early, and then backing off and using the jab overtime if he cant hurt GGG at the onset. Box, box, box, and use angles if possible and lateral movement. Gloves up high, no macho sht by exchanging. If hurt, dont fire back, recoup and find moments to time GGG.
Come out hard and fast in rounds one and two, then stick and move, and work in the uppercut. Forget the body, he will have to get too close to land effective body punches and risks getting countered with something big. Keep turning him and make him follow you.
All jokes aside.
Go guns blazing in the first round, hurt GGG, make him cautious of his power.
One thing GGG has no respect for is boxers who can't punch, so he puts the pressure on them. You can just tell GGG's body language against weak punchers, he's very confident and just knows nothing will happen to him because they can't hurt him or outbox him.
Jacobs will have to establish that this won't be the case in their fight. He has to make him taste the power immediately. He also has to jab, he can't just be a powerful guy like Lemiuex with no jab.
Punch him repeatedly until he falls down, if he doesn't fall down he's gonna have to punch him repeatedly for 12 rounds, making sure he outlands his opponent round by round. He needs to do this while trying to avoid his opponents punches as much as possible and clinch if he's in trouble.
