Which ideas would you give to improve Boxing appeal and let people be more interested in this sport?
In my opinion there are too many weight categories (no more sense nowdays as it's easy to gain/lose Kg in controlled way compared to 20 years ago) and too many federations/belts, this can confuse people who doesn't follow boxing often.
I would reduce weight categories to no more than 10 and try to create the "only one champion" for category.
I think everyone wants this, especially the 1 champion but how exactly would you do it ?
I would change the scoring system and bring in 10-9.5 for close rounds or rounds where theres little action and 10-8.5 rounds for a dominant round where theres no KD.
Too many big fights where both fighters try to steal the rounds and both fighters think they are winning so not much happens.
1 vote for your change in scoring.
Realistically? The sanctioning bodies just need to encourage unification. The sport would be easier to follow if a new fan can identify who the champion is.
more tournaments, like tennis and golf, where theres individual stars who become the best by winning tournaments against fellow bests.. and change the purse to favour a winner rather than splits being negotiated before a fight. Its a silly disincentive as you'll get paid whatever you get paid regardless of winning or losing, that just aint a way to motivate a good fight.
a tournament winner leaves with the most prize money, that should be the case!
but, as boxing is not even a sport and is more akin to the WWE, its pointless. rankings should be determined by tournaments, as should champions. all of that would take having more regular fights, 4 a year ideally
Agree with marinating fights. Just fight already. All this talk about "we need time to hype it up" is nonsense. Disagree about them getting millions. They deserve it. The amount of training it takes to reach their level and sacrifices they've made is huge, plus risking getting their brain wires being snapped and hemorrhaging.
For sure that they deserve it, but not all of the fighters that make millions deserves them, IMO there are more fighters that deserve them and never got them.
It won't happen but I would clarify boxing rules so you would see them enforced uniformly in every fight.
Also instruct all refs to deduct a point after a fighter has been warned 2X for holding. This one change would improve the flow of a fight and make it more fan friendly.
More Super 6 type tournaments would be great but that's asking for way to much. lol
A tier based system of development to allow for competitive fights at all levels of the sport. Just like in most sports where there is some sort of farm system from the amateurs to the minor leagues to the elite level boxing should make some sort of system like this. The sumo ranking system in Japan is what I'd really love to see in boxing. It could be made to easily fit into boxing despite no regular tournament offerings in boxing at any level by just moving guys up or down based on recent performance to better fit where their currently skill level is. I also believe this would led to more older fighters being weeded out of the sport quicker as they'd get dropped to lower & lower divisions of the sport until them competing in the AA league of boxing would be an such an embarrassment to them they'd just hang them up knowing they just didn't have it anymore.
I think me and you talked about this before and I really like the idea.

Attract women...
Ideally you would get a private boxing organization that standardizes and makes the fight promoting system efficient. One of the great commercial advantages the UFC has over boxing is that the higher brass can simply order a fight to happen, also only one belt for weight class. If boxing was like the UFC, GGG would have already fought Canelo and Billy Joe wouldn't be defending a belt no one takes seriously against bum after bum.
Less weight classes
Ban those ugly carnival shorts a lot of boxers wear
Stop "marinating" fights, fights are not meat
Fight more often
Stop paying boxers those millions that are being paid as this is one of the issues boxers are not fighting regularly as well

I won't say less belts, because belts are what motivates a boxer to get better.
But for sure less weight classes and less "regular", "super champion" bulls*it

Last weekend was a showcase of everything wrong with boxing.
-Fight on incredibly late on HBO and $55 PPV in Canada
-Gamboa coasts to a boring victory when he needs to do something spectacular
-Alvarado comes for a paycheck instead of trying to pull off an upset
-Geriatric commentators trash the product they're supposed to be selling
-Lemieux comes in bloated and soft for his second consecutive fight
-Biased commentators undersell Lemiuex, oversell Stevens, and look foolish pouting in shock at the result
Less champions (less belts), reduce the number of weight divisions, fight weight-in on the same day as the fight.
But the biggest issue at the end of the day is the boxing politics and there's no easy solution to deal with that.
