What does it take to make an exciting fight?

Couldn't agree more with the original poster! And regarding the Thurman/Garcia fight: It literally took me 10 hours to watch the fight. Had to stop almost every round and take an hour break because it was hella boring.

SAME LEVEL FOOTWORK. This way distance will be to both fighters benefit. Willie Monroe jr fast movement to GGG cutting the ring of skills. Fighters like DSG who cant cut the ring off must rely on the other fighter to be there to be hit. The closer fighter are the better chance of punches being thrown and landed which will result in a more entertaining fight.

Charlo vs Williams, to me, was an exciting fight; both guys with skills, both guys with power, both guys with ring smarts, with both guys having similar but different styles. High-speed chess with brain trauma potential, so to speak. Thinking man's fight, with both fighters looking to do damage, which ended with explosive technique. Thurman-Garcia was exciting enough for about 10 rounds, and then Thurman stopped fighting; rather than keeping aggressive and on his wits, Thurman went into a prevent defense and ran to close out the fight. It's funny to me that as of late everyone seems to want to excuse boring fights between two notable names simply because, "It's two elite fighters in there... they are playing chess". Gtfo. So what are you saying? Does it take an overmatched opponent with a world class fighter in order for a fight to be explosive and dynamic? I get what you're saying and I agree with it all. Also, thanks for your excellent breakdown. I suppose I'm just disappointed haha. I expected the One Time of old to show up and either dismantle or get dismantled... sadly he just came in, did his job and cruised. Which is fine and all but for this fight to be held in such a high regard, I just didn't see the luster in it. Wait until Thurman vs Peterson. There you will have a guy that wants to get inside and fight at close range. That will be much higher paced fight.

Thurman likes to use his feet, create angles and ambush you with power shots. But Garcia did a good job of moving his head and avoiding those attacks. It all comes down to what's more important to you? Do you want to see the best fighters in the division perform or do you only want style matchups that create fireworks? 2 guys out there to actually fight and not worry about losing a 0 on there record. Thats why UFC at times becomes exciting and you get good match ups. Guys are not worried about losing that 0. UFC fighters know that even if they lose somewhere down the line they could get another shot. In Boxing this whole thing about having to be undefeated is magnified. Guys take less risk. It's seems like only people like KHAN get unlimited opportunities. Gone are the days that guys just wanted to scrap. Now are the days guys want a 0 on the record. Alot is to blame on management of fighters and promoters trying to play it safe with fighters that can bring them money.
