Both very good boxers, but not quite premium enough to be considered an "elite" talent. Neither is destined to be the new king of Welterweight unless we're prepared to enter into another dark age period of the division.
What about the others? Is Kell Brook? Hard to say; He was outboxing GGG until he got injured, but he still hasn't faced great enough competition in his own weight class to determine just yet. Errol Spence Jr.? Same deal - The fight between them in the coming months could tell us a lot. Shawn Porter? lol No. He's already lost to both Brook and Thurman, he's not the guy. Jessie Vargas is a bum. Amir Khan is a joke. It's sad to say, but an old and withered Manny Pacquiao may still be the greatest Welterweight in the world right now, even at almost 40.
Lol, when top fighters fight each other this is what happens. The fight is competitive and some fans come out and say the fighters aren't really all that.
It's the Canelo-GGG syndrome. Canelo has fought elite fighters like Mayweather, Lara, Cotto and who was considered elite at 154 at the time Trout and Canelo didn't look spectacular so he's "not that good". GGG on the other hand looks great, awesome, spectacular so he's "Really good".
Wait until your favorite fighters fight an elite guy too and watch him look normal.
Kell Brook beat Porter but let's not act like it was some amazing performance where he destroyed Porter. It was competitive, but Brook clearly won. Thurman-Garcia was competitive, but Thurman clearly won. That's what happens in good boxing matches.
You don't boxing if you don't see them as elite.
Thurman and Garcia would destroy the same guys that "Prime Pac" destroyed.
you're right..."I don't boxing"...smh, fcuking retard
I believe both are good fighters, the top class of that weight division (amongst others). But op is right, it doesn't make them elite. Garcia earned his online nickname "the gift" for a reason. Thurman doesn't have the "one time" power anymore against good opponents. He's turned more methodical and boxes his opponents.
These two aren't, and most likely never will be l, prime PAC and may. I know, mind blowing stuff
You can hurt somebody being outboxed ,Maidana vs Khan or Pavlik vs Tylor among many many more
Some of you have an odd definition of outboxing. I gave Brook two rounds out of five.
Danny was elite at 140 imo. Granted he had some close calls but if you think he won all those fights then it's hard to argue that wasn't. Is he elite at 147? No.
As for Thurman he's a little unproven. Porter and Danny are two good wins, but he needs to beat someone who's in the top 3. Until he does that I wouldn't regard him as elite. Beat Pac or Brook now, or Spence if he gets past Brook, then he's elite.
Agreed. The fight wasn't terrible, and congrats to Thurman for getting the win. However, I was disappointing in how ordinary they both looked.
I always had Brook ahead of Thurman and Garcia up until that GGG loss. I'm not sure how it affected him. If Brook is still the same fighter he beats both. If Errol Spence beats Brook, I'm confident he stops Thurman by the end of the year.
Thurman had issues with karas and collazo so I give brook a win over Thurman and I think Canello would knock Thurman into tomorrow. And that fight could happen at catch weight or even 147 canelo fights at 154
LOL all I heard them say ALL NIGHT was "be smart, be smart". I can imagine Thurman thinking "damn, am I fighting DUMB?"
See all this time when they were saying that to Thurman? I expected him to reach for his shoe with the glove and dial 99.

Sorry couldn't resist. :lol1:
Yea mate, I was trying to find out why thurman vs danny was called a mega fight, now i realize it was just the hype that got me.
Esp Thurman fought retired or never-heard-of ppl through his career. He will never face a technician.
Lol at, Brook was outboxing GGG until he got injured. Golovkin made him **** his trunks with a body shot in the first round, and broke his face soon after.
You can hurt somebody being outboxed ,Maidana vs Khan or Pavlik vs Tylor among many many more
I'm not a Thurman fan. I don't like that style. Credit to him if he keeps winning but I can't sit there through a full Thurman fight.
Thurman's style is like praise dancer at a church.
I think the problem here is the WW division, and how many A level guys there are (a lot).
Usually it would be fair to say that in any given division there are one or two 'Elite' guys.
Despite what a lot of people here say, I'd say the only real 'Elite' guy (now Floyd has retired) is Manny and maybe Bradley / Brook.
Then you have the next level full of VERY GOOD guys - Thurman, Spence, Porter, Garcia...even Khan who are pretty much all on the same level.
You have to say Thurman is knocking on the door of the Elite tag after beating Danny and Porter.
Danny should take a Pac fight to cash out and call it a career he's not beating brook or Spence or even porter for that matter he's not elite at all.
Pretty sure the division will play out with Spence beating brook and PAC beating khan forcing brook and khan to finally fight and Spence and thruman will then face off by early next year.
Thurman is close to elite but not quite. Garcia's luck ran out. I've always said that Garcia was the luckiest boxer. You can only beat the house so much before the odds stack up against you with those skills. Not taking anything away from Garcia. He's a well rounded boxer but lacks a mastery in all fields. He's the epitome of a journeyman who got lucky more than once.
Danny's biggest mistake was to turn down Mayweather. It would've been a sure loss but it would have banked him huge in a heavily publicised "somebodies O has got to gO!"
Don't you mean Pacquiao? I know Mayweather said that Danny Garcia would be the fight he'd come back for if he returned at that particular time, but there was never any serious attempt at making a comeback. Garcia turned down a fight with Manny on the basis that he was "only" offered 4-6 million, which he didn't consider to be enough for a fight of that magnitude.

Agreed.
The entire sport was watching last night and they just didn't deliver at all. One spent the championship rounds on the run and the other let him, because after 34 fights, he still doesn't know how to cut off the ring.
From what ive seen throughout the years, the hardcore boxing fans appreciate the lower weight divisions while the casuals are more about knockouts so they watch the heavier guys.
115 is deep as fuk and it is criminal how these real fighters dont get more exposure.
Imagine a tourney at 115. It would be nuts!
I agree.
But in lower weights there is a lot of powerful fighters, Yamanaka has the heaviest left hand of the sport, Gonzalez is a killer, Nietes, Inoue, Casimero and Hernandez are K.O artist, one punch K.O, Valdez has crazy power.
And I'm talking about power because in the aspects of skills they are elites.
People is ****in ignorant.
