Good post.
It's ironic really, we get these stadiums full of 'casuals' ( i hate that word) full of the cast of the only way is essex to watch AJ fight some fatties.
And boxing has ' never been better ' in the UK.
It's horse **** and what hearn is doing is actually killing the sport.
is it more popular than it has been in years in the UK? probably, big numbers etc.
but what are we getting?
we're getting welterweights v middleweights.
Cruiserweights v heavyweights
and ted ****ing cheeseman on the undercard
and its PPV ? :lol1:
i mean it's great for Hearn, he's lining his pocket's, selling his best fighters 0 for a few mill (brook) and selling schit show after **** show full of 100/1 mismatches.
But it sure as schit aient good for us real boxing fan's.
and guess what's even worse? if the Nicaraguan taxi driver manages to have the fight of his life and win against the home fighter......he get's robbed.
Mismatches is Quillin vs a stripper, Danny Garcia vs those two guys etc. Brook and Bellew are champions, world class fighters, taking a risk vs slightly bigger World class fighters for big rewards in fights that's nothing new to the sport. Back when it was just the orginal weight classes this is what you jumped. Frampton-Quigg, Degale-Dirrell/Bute/Jack, Brook-Spence. Taylor is in like her 3rd fight, who do you expect her to be fighting? Most also agree Joshua has been moved along perfectly, he's fighting Klitschko now or haven't you noticed?
Hardly killing the sport, seems like real business and entertainment going on rather than this marinating and protection programs. This is just another case of fans overreacting, we are in the era of non-stop whining it seems.
Name ONE card where half of the fights were not 100/1 mismatches.
look at this weekends
Haye V bellew - ridiculous mismatch
Paulie v Eggington crap fight, paulie is totally shot
Ohara v Matthews - total mismatch
Selby V a 100/1 bum
Katie taylor v who the **** cares
Dave allen V TBA
there is not a SINGLE competitive fight
and before you say ' it's hard to put on a full card of competitive good fights'
why can't hearn do this?
http://boxrec.com/show/740238
Every single fight from the 0-0 prospects were competitive and was one of the best card's of last year.
In 2015: Card of the year http://boxrec.com/show/718330
Don't get me wrong fisheyes is not much better, im hoping the BT sport deal somehow changes the way things are going....
Personally I hope he's holding back the good fights for the AJ vs Klit undercard, to make it worthy of a stadium
does anyone see this going different to Haye vs Maccarinelli ?
I reckon 2 rounds is all it will need to put Bellew on rubbery legs, though expect a british stoppage so they can set up the bull**** rematch lol.
The card is rubbish, and it's all down to David Haye wanting to keep all the money in house.
David Haye is a cancer on boxing, i pray that Bellew ends him. Won't happen unfortunately, but we can dream.

Well i agree. I couldn't tell you a card he did that was totally competitive. In a way, i kind of understand sometimes because he puts his fighters on he's building up such as Conor Benn for example, so some of them like him are going to be in against **** opponents. I don't mind that as long as there's other good fights on the card.
This weekends card is dreadful for a PPV.
Also, For all Hearn's talk of him being the best promoter and if fighters want big money, they need to be with him... Well i disagree because this card would NEVER be sold as a PPV if Haye wasn't fighting and he isn't a Hearn fighter.
Yeah hopefully the BT Sports/Box Nation deal might bring some competition so everyone has to up their game and deliver. I wouldn't hold my breath though. "Hardcore" fans probably make up a small % of the market, almost irrelevant really. I'd imagine it's more likely that BT have seen how much Sky make from the casual fan and might attempt to follow suit.
That's basically why he's targeted the "casuals" though. They don't really know what's what. Your avid boxing fan is harder to please because it means making meaningful fights which are harder to make. Hearn has obviously sussed that he can rake in more money without needing to make great cards or matches, just by pulling in a different audience. That's not to say he hasn't made some good fights and cards, he has, but he still gets away with a LOT of garbage.
Probably worth remembering he is basically a darts promoter. It's not as if anybody at the Darts is really there because they love the Darts and follow it. They're there because it's an event, a good night out and good drink up and that's essentially what he's bringing into british boxing in a way, basically crowds there for the event and night out, not really the boxing...so he doesn't need to make sure it's a great card. 90% of people lining Hearn's pockets right now don't really know their arse from their elbow when it comes to boxing.

Well thats absolutely true. This is a nonsense fight, but i still feel somewhere along the line its become genuinely personal. It doesn't really make it a better fight though, it's a mismatch.
Hearn has admitted that he and Sky were working together to target a new audience and bring a different kind of boxing fan to the sport and they're doing that really. Look at Joshua's audience, i'd say a good 90% of them barely even watch boxing at all.
I understand it and it's business. I still don't believe it should be at the expense of creating mismatches like this though.
I also think Hearn often puts his business too far ahead of his fighters sometimes. Obviously he's going to put his business first, it's only right but to the degree of throwing in Tony Bellew with David Haye or Kell Brook with Golovkin to get his eye socket caved in? Or even putting Dave Allen in with Luis Ortiz, that fight should have NEVER been sanctioned and the last Callum Smith fight.
Someone will get seriously hurt in one of these mismatches.

It's a shame because with their ability to sell fights they could be putting on good match ups and doing good buisness too.
Would this fight be PPV if they didnt 'hate each other' ?
Ive noticed boxing is becoming more and more like Wrestling in terms of building and selling fights, this is no different.
Hearn is a Aldi version of vince mcmahon.
Tell me this, would sky/ hearn be able to put on HALF of his PPV show's per year without the huge casual fanbase?
Casuals don't really care about boxing, they care about storylines, bad blood, press conferences with WWE style acting and swearing etc
When you're emotionally invested, then you will invest your money in the snakeoilsalesmans product, when in reality all boxing nerds like you and i, know fully well this is not even a real fight, it might even end inside of 45 seconds.

Lol 35 minute video. Doesn't even start with Haye, lots of guys in suits talking for the first 10 minutes.
TS, you took the time to make a thread to share this, so you care about people watching it, so you need to specify the time frame that you want us to see Haye losing it so we can comment on it.
He only has 30 something posts so we can give him a pass this time around. On the bright side, at least we know he isn't an alt. I think? :lol1:
If you watch the video, at one point when Haye is at the mic kicking off, Hearn leans over to Bellew & says "he's getting emotional" and basically actions to him keep going.
The presser was hilarious to be fair, the crowd were proper funny. It was all set up obv to annoy Haye and it worked I suppose lol. Bellews banking on haye going all out early and wearing himself out, getting him as angry as possible is their plan.
However Bellew is still going nap time imo, I'd be shocked if it goes to points and even more if Bellew somehow won.
Well of course, but i mean looking at Haye today and some other things they have said, it's gone beyond that into disliking each other and personal.
That's what i mean, i think at the start they were just selling the fight but maybe the more they sold it and talked, the more they actually crossed over into genuinely disliking each other.
Look at Haye today, that wasn't acting or selling the fight. That was real.
Would this fight be PPV if they didnt 'hate each other' ?

Ohara Davies is fcuking annoying. Why doesn't he fight a real opponent, like Robbie Davies, Jr.? Instead he's fighting old man Derry Mathews at a weight Derry has never fought.
You're right, they hate each other!!!! Bellew said about his kids!!!
omg bellew might win , i h8 haye!
omg i just seen ted cheeseman and paulie is on the undercard
thats IT! im gonna buy the PPV now!
I don't know if you're being sarcastic, but I'm pretty excited about this card.
It's called selling the fight.

Look at Haye today, that wasn't acting or selling the fight. That was real. And Bellew has been making comments about Haye not seeing his kids and also alluding to the fact Haye has been roiding. I don't think Haye would be game for Bellew going that far if they're just both in on selling the fight.
I suppose they might have just been acquaintances simply from being part of the british boxing scene which seems quite close knit in a way. Once they actually got to be involved with each other, they probably quickly realised they dislike each other.
I am fairly sure they used to be friendly though. I can't remember why exactly, i'm sure i've seen a video in the past where Bellew said Haye is a friend of his.
They were acquaintances at least so i'm not sure where the animosity as come from.
I actually think it started out as hype and has actually become personal though.
It's called selling the fight.
